Klown -
OK, first off I'd like to thank you for agreeing to do this interview for us. Can you please introduce yourself to our members?
Bobby Myers -
What Up Ya'll Name is Bobby Myers. Just would like to say Thanks to anyone whos checkin this interview out.
Klown -
Not a prob Bob. *laughs* Sorry, I couldnt resist. Nice to meet'cha and lets begin shall we, How long have you been rapping?
Bobby Myers -
Since 2002, So id say about 6 years.
Klown -
Can you tell me a little about your origins and how you got into making music?
Bobby Myers -
Sure, I got interested in making music back when i was about 13 . I was influenced by the wave of anarchy and "fuck you if you dont like it" attitudes goin on around my town back then lol i was a Juggalo, a tad anti social and had some fucked up issues goin on in my personal life, so i had a lot of time and things to write. I wrote lyrics and used to practice rappin em and shit along to songs i liked lol. I remember my brother was in a one of those garage bands and i thought he was the shit, so i started tryin to be part of it but it never worked out....they ended up breakin up like 3 weeks after starting it. Thats when i really got into the music atmosphere and started this journey of mine to get it out to the world. Been down with the sound ever since.
Klown-
That's kewl, also nice to see how one's atmosphere gets one into music. Sucks ya bro's band didnt go no where but kewl how it gave you more push and inspiration to get into the music scene. How did you come up with your name?
Bobby Myers -
Well theres really not a grand story about this but i can tell you Robert is my actual middle name. And Myers is my real Last name so i flipped it and went with Bobby Myers. My uncle's name was Robert Myers, He died at a young age in a hunting accident, hence why i had his middle name. So I guess theres a lil connection there..... Other then that what you see is what ya get.
Klown -
I like how they gave you his name to keep on the memory. I wonder if he's a force helping you grow in music, since you're connected with his name. Be cool too have that watching your back always. How close are you with your fan base?
Bobby Myers -
I Try to be as close as possible with anyone that listens to my music. I try to keep it on a personal level to the fullest extent untill its no longer possible. I mean when i started out only my friends were my fans so ive always thought of my fans as friends since then. Gimmie a call sometime if your a fan ill give ya my number lol we can chat, sip tea and eat crumpets or somethin.
Klown -
Ya know I havent known ya for long but I will admit. You do like to stay close with ya fans. Giving your Xbox gammer tag to ya fans and friends and always replying to the messages on myspace and shit. That I think is damn cool and a good way to keep your fan base. Who are some of the artist's that you've done shows with?
Bobby Myers -
Well me and Guttamind have put on a few shows together, Theres some local guys around CNY that ive done lil gigs at Outside events and shit with but i havnt gotten down to really doin alot of Big Shows, i guess its because i didnt have a solid foundation of material so thats why ive done "The Backroads" as a Debut album so now i can definitly do some shows and am in the process of getting them lined up now around CNY and possibly FL .
Klown -
Not too bad. Least you have done a few shows. I'd like to cetch a show with you and Gutta on the bill and possibly James G of Bankrupt, that'd be a damn good show. Who are some of your musical influences?
Bobby Myers -
There has been so much different music that has influenced me in different ways itd be impossible to name em all but i can give you a jist of what mostly enlightened me....ICP, Twiztid, Tech N9ne, Cypress Hill, System Of A Down (Oldschool SOAD), Manson, Necro, House Of Krazees, Ice Cube, Method Man, Green Jelly (remeber them lmao) and the list would go on and on...i was influenced by a lot of Hip-Hop, Horrocore Rap, Heavy Metal like "Slipknot, Rammstein, Pantera, Rob Zombie", and Rock " Three Days Grace" is my jam , Classic Rock like "Allman Brother Band , The Eagles, The Doors, Zepplin, Hendrix, Three Dog Night." even fuckin Shoo Bop Bands from the 50's lol . They've all effected me in my approach to music.
Klown -
Always good having a good musical background like that. I'm a fan of all kinds of music, even genre's i cant stand but there are a few groups/acts that I end up digging. Green Jello, hell yes I remember them, hell I still have their vhs some where with a few music video's and live songs on it. They had me laughing with the Three Lil Pigs song. But they always reminded me of a cheap rip off of Gwar. Who are some of your favorite artist now?
Bobby Myers -
Some of my favorite artists these days would definitly be Tech N9ne, Twiztid, DZK, Guttamind a.k.a Noxious, Potluck, Hed Pe, TDG, and other various Hip-Hop, Rock Classic and Metal, Im into all sorts of different music.
Klown -
Nice list. I wish someone would notice DZK and get him signed some where. Even if it's a lil "net" label. He definatly needs to release a cd. Where do you get the inspiration for your music?
Bobby Myers -
Life. Everyday life and how it slaps you in the face before you even know with crazy shit, emotional, ridiculious, amazing , wierd, dark, funny things...c'mon you cant get any better material from any where else lol. Emotion and Life have a huge impact on how my music turns out. Thats what its all about.
Klown -
Definatly, Life is always the best inspiration for any thing. Specially writting and music. Helps get a lot of shit out so you dont explode and go on a killing spree or in the psychward. Do you have a job outside your music, and if so what is it?
Bobby Myers -
Haha Man your gonna get a kick out of this one aight here we go, i also work as a Tele- Sales Agent,at a company which just so happens to market Male and Female enhancement products...you know like Dick Pills, and Pussy Wetters. Hey It helps pay the bills for now. I can get you a deal if ya need it too. lmao
Klown -
*laughs* NOW that is hilarious and I dont think I woulda answered that question. *laughs* Yet that is damn kewl. Well if I ever get a call aboot that, I'll just ask for ya *laughs* How do you see yourself musically in five years?
Bobby Myers -
Hopefully Excelling and on top of my game with new accomplishments and goals. I think thats where everyone wants to be in 5 years. But my main mission within 5 Years is to basicly magnify NYA . Showin everybody what they're missing. I want to be a successful music producer and engineer, anything to do with music im gonna have my hands in it and i just wanna be successful with that and be known for what i do best.
Klown -
That's kewl, just keep what you're doing, learning the trade, honing your mic skills and continually growing in all aspects of the game. You will most definatly get there man. I'll be watching ya grow and continue to promo for ya and get ya out there. If you had the chance to sign to a major record label would you take it?
Bobby Myers -
Well ive always told myself yeah that'd be something i would want , but as time goes by id rather create something new and be a part of its foundation, rather then just another artist on the Depth Chart. (Hence : NYA Music baby!!!) Plus this way i can do whatever i want, rather then try to sugercoat or slide in a direction i dont want with my music. But i mean if wasnt hindered with my music in any way and could still build NYA off of it then yeah sure , why not.
Klown -
Defintly, like what 50 Cent or Eminem has done when they got signed. Still make the music they want and like and use those profits and name to create and continue to build and work on their label and music outside of the label they're signed too. Good way to do it too, as long as you continue to have creative control over the majority of your music while on the label. What's your feelings towards major labels making the artist's they sign make music to put on the radio and turn them from the artist's they was when they signed them?
Bobby Myers -
I think that labels that do that really arent business's that are trying to bring music to the public but rather a product. They see a prospering future for i.e: Crunk, Commercial, East Side, West Side...etc etc...and are creating a product to fit whatevers most popular to make mucho dinero. And Hey if thats what the public wants then i guess give em what they want....but in my mind thats not music ....thats business. But i guess its workin out for em eh.
Klown -
Good point and I can also see part of the arguement for it. Like the stage pressence and flows but dont like his material. But still, that's wrong in making an artist change their ways. What is your opinion on mainstream music, do you like it or not?
Bobby Myers -
I cant really say i ride around bumpin the local radio stations but im not marchin in circles outside with picket signs protesting either. Some of it catches i guess...its kinda like that shit you dont want in your head but for some ungodly reason gets stuck in there anyways...and you find yourself humming it...that really pisses me off...but naw i have to say im pretty neutral about it. Not really my style but i aint hatin em.
Klown -
Oh God dont get me started on those types of tracks. Those are by far the worst. I dont care for lots of what the mainstream has but there are always hidden gems out there that's in the mainstream that make damn good music. But I prefer lots of indie and underground acts over mainstream. What are your feelings on mainstream media and music blaming horrorcore/hardcore rap for stupid shit like school shootings? for example like what the media did with Mars and the Red Lake School shootings cuz they found some of his music lyrics in the kids notebook.
Bobby Myers -
Thats all a scapegoat i think, i mean if your really that unstable, where you actually take music to the extreme to the point where your reanacting whatever acts they represent....then you got more issues then bad parenting or music...thats called mental sickness. People just dont wanna admit that something is wrong with his/her child or loved one , so they blame it on the closest possible explanation. In this case....Music. Really, just look at the news....maybe everyone that watches the news is gonna go re enact everything we saw! that would be something.
Klown -
Very good point and I like how you explained your answer. The news is the most violent disturbing crap on the tv and they never get blammed for violence, only the music or movies or games. What's your feelings on mainstream artist's over playing drive-by's, bling and other shit like that?
Bobby Myers -
Haha , well like i said ..its a product. People that listen to that kinda thing, thats what they wanna hear. So thats whats brought to em...half the dudes probably havnt even shot a gun in there lives but they have the image of a Thug or Gangster so they they doll em up give em some lines to say and push em out on a stage. Wha La you have the next Big Thing!!! To me personally i think its a lil played out....maybe just a tad...i mean...its been said for like what 20 years now? how much more can ya possibly break down about it? lol but hey It is what it is.
Klown -
Very well put and good points again. Definatly one of the better answers I've had for this question. Do you listen to your own music as much as other peoples music?
Bobby Myers -
Hell Yeah! Lol...i mean i make music that i enjoy...i make this music because it expresses me . of course im gonna bump my own Music...its compatible with me more then anybody elses. Im my biggest Fan my man. I dont see it as uncool or something to listen to my own music i mean if you dont listen to your own tracks then does that mean you dont like em? you dont like the music your bringing to the people? If you cant vibe with our own music why are you makin it? or your making music that isnt you, and its a product strictly made and delivered as business.
Klown -
Very good points there, plus it helps you when you're going to put on a show and help memorize the tracks all over again. What process do you have for making your music, or is there one?
Bobby Myers -
Well i dont necessarily layout like a floorplan from jump, i have to be in feelin it ya know. Sometimes ill write a song and have it recorded within 2 hours. Just comes to me that way...Creativity has its ways..It never goes exactly as you first predicted..but that makes it great...what makes it unique i guess. Other times i plan out the tracks in according to a specific cd concept im working on but i still have to be feeling the concept on a particular time in order to create it.
Klown -
I always like the answers I get for this question. Always good to see into the mind of a music artist and how he goes to making the music and ways he/she goes about it. Would you do a song if someone approached you with lyrics and a music concept?
Bobby Myers -
Yeah if im feelin the concept and can relate to it then sure, im not gonna turn down anyone because of the're popularity or lack there of. But if you got a good sound and decent quality in your music and you have a concept and wanna make some music im down. Thats what its about.
Klown -
For anyone out there that wanted to do a collab with you, are you up for it, if so what are your terms, and how do they go about setting that up?
Bobby Myers -
Im happy to do collabs with other artists, my only terms wouldnt really be terms i mean you dont need to be a certain height or waist size or anything to make music, but if i can relate to it and you have a sound i can vibe with then hell yeah. If anyone needs to contact me about it just message me on Myspace at www.myspace.com/bobbymyersnya.
Klown -
There y'all go, definatly go and hit him up for collab. Dude is very good and ya wont be disappointed with his verse. Is there anyone that you'd deny a colab with or got a beef with?
Bobby Myers -
I dont have any major beefs with anyone, Theres always gonna people that dont agree on things musically and lyrically but thats all petty shit, and to deny a collab i mean you'd need to be atleast musically inclined to even do music to begin with or you shouldnt be doin it. so if your tryin to hustle collabs and you got a 15 $ tape recorder and an instrumental cd and wanna collab with me somehow over live chat on xbox or somethin i aint gonna be down lol. but other then that i guess it just depends on the situation.
Klown -
*laughs* Understandable on that part. I know you work with Guttamind. Can you tell us how you two hooked up musically?
Bobby Myers -
Me and Guttamind go way back. I mean Before Guttamind and Bobby Myers it was just two friends writing lyrics on a front porch. We must've wrote so many lyrics that never even came close to making it on a track its not even funny...i mean piles of scrap book paper and scribbles. But i met Gutta when i was like 14 and we basicly been doin the music thing ever since. We started off with nothing and slowly built a lil somthing out of it. If you want to check out the reall real real old shit...go to www.soundclick.com/silentuntouchablekillaz, which was made in 2001. Lmao.Lets just say we've done a lot of Upgrading and Updating.
Klown -
That's kewl, boys from back in the day before any thing came to be. You know what, I think I will check that out. Be very interested in seeing how far both of y'all progressed. Could you give us a lil inside info on what you got instore for us in the months to come?
Bobby Myers -
Hmmm....Man theres alot goin on right now with NYA ( Not Ya Average) Music, Currently of course were getting ready to drop my Debut album "The Backroads" in december. We have plans for a Valentines Day album for February, Which will consist of me and Gutta as a Group Project. Im in the First stages of an additional Bobby Myers EP set to drop around March or Early April. Also We've been throwin the idea around to do a Rock Album, Me and Gutta of course as a Group. Thats definitly something that we're intersted in working on. As you should know Gutta has his own Debut Album to be unleashed on the unsuspecting listeners as well....And you just never know what might spring up as an Exclusive here and there so we definitly have some major Plans for 2008. Keep ya Eyes peeled cuz you never know when we might drop some bombs.
Klown -
Damn nice, I know aboot your cd (which I cant wait to hear and review) and Gutta's (hopefully that'll be out soon). That's a lot of music and stuff to get excited for. I will definatly be checking all that out when it drops and I will definatly help push it every where I can. What is the legacy you'd like to leave behind you when it's all over with?
Bobby Myers -
The legacy i would like to leave behind is probably something more personal to me then public. Publicly i could really give a fuck how anyone sees my career or music but i would just like to be known as someone who built something up from the ground out of nothin and was doubted from day one...but rose up and created something amazing and not ya average. And to bring good music to the masses!!!
Klown -
That's kewl man. I think it means more personally then what the public see's when it comes to stuff like that. Specially building a music company from scratch and getting noticed all over. What advice do you have for any one just getting into the music scene or wanting to get into it?
Bobby Myers -
I cant really say ive ever been a good advice giver, lol, but really if you want to get into the music scene you need to keep workin hard at gettin your music heard. also just keep making it consistent so everybody always has something new to listen to from you, so you shouldnt steer wrong if your original and have some kinda rhythem.
Klown -
Where can fans hook up to, download or buy your music or merch?
Bobby Myers -
Well first and foremost WWW.MYSPACE.COM/BOBBYMYERSNYA....and im currently updating my Sounclick page with some of the older classic music ive done in the past, thats at www.soundclick.com/bobbymyers. And i will be having Merch for sale around about the time my debut album drops so be on the look out for that at the Myspace site as well.
Klown -
