Sadly, the young bonobo, Nathan died of cancer the other night. We are all saddened by the loss of Nathan. He was a true family member of Sue Savage-Rumbaugh's and her family of bonobos. Nathan was the 8 year old son of Panbanisha and the late P-Suke (who passed away in 2006).

Quoting the Great Ape Trust's website:

"Nathan, an 8-year-old bonobo living at Great Ape Trust, died May 15 after diagnostic testing at Iowa State University's Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center determined he was suffering from an advanced and inoperable state of lymphoma"

"Nathan, the son of Panbanisha and the late P-Suke, was born June 18, 2000 at the Language Research Center at Georgia State University, where Great Ape Trust’s seven bonobos lived before moving to Des Moines in 2005. He was the youngest of the bonobos living at The Trust and, along with Panbanisha and his brother Nyota, was among the first three to arrive in Des Moines."

With Peter and his crew working diligently on creating a universal language (complete with symbols), we are only a short distance from transcending a communication barrier.
These symbols could be as easy a the bathroom symbol and others more complicated.

Please submit....tastefully....some

ideas for review. The goal is to break down the barrier of communication between intelligent beings....humans, primates, elephants, dolphins!

Soon the dolphins will be using the touch screens - already happened in the past.

So we would love some great ideas for universal language!!

For all of those who have been following us since Apenet - many years back, we have finally made a significant step!

Neil Gershenfeld has introduced the technology to one of the top zoos in the nation. Naturally, we cannot disclose the location until all of the t's are crossed and the i's are dotted.

This is a huge development as this has been 7 years in the coming!! And the primates have learned so much more about computers it seems, across the board.

The Inter-Species Internet - Communication, Collaboration and Compassion...

We are actively involved with BCI and the reserve there in the Congo, other stateside institutions, and some UK based facilities. Some of us, including Peter Gabriel, are visiting with each site to carefully plan each stage.

The 'wired'  part is taking us the longest...it is not as easy as putting a laptop in front of the gang!

The Inter-species Internet - Communication, Collaboration and Compassion. Peter wanted to be clear that 'Animal' is not as respectful as the word 'Species'....therefore, the Animal Nation name is no longer aligned with the new organization.

This great event is happening at a small venue in NYC. Tony will jam with musicians (such as the amazing Wynne Paris and the incomparable Wind) and perform some solos too.

Please see Tony Levin's myspace page for details!
