Thursday, August 13, 2009
And it's hello to you!

It's a ladies special on Tokyo Soundscape this time round. We were going to do a Boys vs Girls contrasting show but realised that the ladies beat the guys so hard, it wasn't worth making them square off against one another in the grand podcast arena. You can listen to all the show on the Open Air website as ever, and the tracklist is below:

Cibo Matto - Beef Jerky
Super Junky Monkey - 何
Tokyo Pinsalocks - Travelling Spoon
Natccu - 加減の月
Mika Nakashima - Glamorous Sky
Utadar Hikaru - First Love
Misora Hibari - 悲しい酒
advantage Lucy - Spur Line
Judy and Mary - くじら12号
Odani Misako - Faint Odor
Tokyo Jihen - 透明人間

It's awesexy!

Later gaters,
Rory

Hey hey hey!

Chris and myself headed into the Open Air studio just last night, and lo and behold, it's now up on the website for your streaming pleasure (thanks Rob!). You can listen to it here.

Playlist...

Handsomeboy Technique - A Flick of a Trick
80kidz - Frankie (featuring The Shoes)
Susumu Hirasawa - Parade
Soil & "Pimp" Sessions - GO NEXT!
Shonen Knife - Muddy Bubbles Hell
Mo'some Tonebender - Big-S
Gyoko - 鯛 Conguraturasion!
Hoover's Ooover - Timer
Kick the Can Crew - 地球 Blues ~337~
Halfby - Farmer's Delight

Listening back, I realised I said Handsomeboy Technique's first album was called Adelie Coast Waltz. THIS IS WRONG! It is in fact called Adelie Land (Adelie Coast Waltz is just one of the many brilliant tracks on it). I also think I fudged the sound on Parade, underestimating the volume and I didn't adjust it enough...sorry. I hope it did not impair your enjoyment of the drama...

Yes, hello, and welcome to the Tokyo Soundscape Facebook Page!

Become a fan, and we'll love you forever unequivocally and for free. There'll be updates on the show itself, plus we'll keep you in the loop on Japanese acts playing in the UK, and post music videos, links to websites and anything else vaguely TS-esque - and feel free to return the favour.

You can find the official page nyah: clicky!

Currently prepping some material for potential new shows (no ETA just yet, but will let you know when it happens), so any suggestions would be welcome too.

See you in the funny pages!

So the Open Air summer schedule is up and running. And Tokyo Soundscape will be playing every Wednesday from 5 to 6pm (GMT), repeated again on Thursdays at 1am and 9am. Full schedule listings here.

Furthermore, some new shows are potentially in the offing over the summer. Working on gathering some new material - if you have any recommendations, don't hesitate to send a message or reply to the blog or post on the front page or anything. Get in touch!

Okay, okay!

Sooooo, since last time I posted anything, a lot's happened - but not much related to Tokyo Soundscape, unfortunately. HOWEVER! It is mainly due to my own incompetence that I have yet to update all you Soundscapers that the Open Air website is looking super-lovely now and they have been steadily uploading past shows I recorded last year (though still fresh and new!) to my Tokyo Soundscape page! Or just feed it straight into your ears! There are literally several different ways to listen to myself, Chris and lots of nutty Japanese loveliness!!!

Yup yup! Will keep you updated more often.

Promise!

Hello all!

Long time no see (or hear or whatever). I'll be heading into the Open Air studio tomorrow with Chris to record two all-new episodes of Tokyo Soundscape. When these will be broadcast remains to be seen (hopefully in the very near future), but you can expect to hear tunes from the likes of Mimi Unagi, Vola & The Oriental Machine, Doping Panda, Mothercoat, Super Junky Monkey, Cornelius and Polysics. Stay tuned for dates.

Open Air are also working on rolling radio, so you'll be able to hear music all day everyday alongside pre-made shows. I've added a few playlists to the roll-call, so who knows? If you tune in, you may hear some of my personal favourite tunes from the past series. In any case, be sure to point your browser to the Open Air webpage very soon.

Also, I've entered a video into the MySpace Mars Planets Radio co-presenter competition, which could very well be my shot at the BIG TIME (or at least the slightly bigger time), so please check out my entry and give me a thumbs up.

Until next time,
Rory

And so we have reached the 11th hour. Special thanks once again to my wingman, Chris Roaf. Though our guest didn't show, we still had a good show. The tunes were:

Wonder Word - Supercar
Nostalgia For The Sky - Petset
My Room - Polysics
Beautiful - Bonobos
Prussian Blue - Hanjiro
Type: Ecco System - Melt-Banana
Break Out - Nanase Aikawa
All Through The Night Buttobase!! - Guitar Wolf
¥ - Tha Blue Herb
Ibasho - We Acediasts
Norway - Piana

Next show will be the last in the foreseeable future and will be something of a greatest hits - not tracks I've played before, but my favourite artists over the course of this run. It'll be broadcast on Good Friday, so I actually recorded it before show 11 - yes, I recorded my final show before my penultimate one just to freak people out. So listen out for that on 21st March, 1-2pm, http://www.openair.fm.
