A long overdue, 'sup.
Anyway, a couple things:
Firstly, Phil and Tom have been working on something new over the summer with some hitmen from around town. All will be revealed shortly and some material will be wacked up on the world wide web.
Also, check out "Battles For Paris", a new band from our hometown Bridport. They've just finished an EP recorded with Oz Craggs of "Walk Into The Light..." fame at Hidden Track Studios and have just completed their first tour so if you are a promoter and fancy a hot new band check em out y'all.
Until next time.
Love.

Current mood:  curious
Since the 'time out' began, Ross has been writing lots of music which will now become his new solo project, currently titled Standish Smithwick. Last week he recorded two songs with Sam Get Cape, and his producers Andy Theakstone and Adam Menczykowski at their studio in  Hitchin and the first airing of this new material will be on Friday when the new BSM Podcast hits the airwaves.
With more recording and future shows now being planned. make sure you download the podcast for the first sample!

Right, I think it’s about time we told everyone what has been happening since the turn of the year and since Serj left the band. The first few weeks were really hard to concentrate on anything band wise, I think we all feel a bit defeated. It’s like one of us had given up the fight that we always thought would be with us forever. I now think that we all feel a bit like this. I know I do.
Being in a band is a strange thing, it’s basically a 24 hour a day job, only at our level you don’t get paid diddaly squat. You spend most of your time burning CD's, promoting your music, and playing shows to 10 people - still getting paid barely enough to cover costs. You sleep on floors, if you sleep at all. Of course all this is amazing and you get to travel the world while being able to see and experiance things that most will never know. We, as a band, have had a great time always. But after a while it takes its toll physically and mentally. When we started this band we always had the same goal and drive that never changed... until the start of this year. With Serj leaving, it has changed things forever, and we now need time to figure out these changes and then carry on. We need to find the love that I feel has been lost somewhere in 2009. This time last year we were in New York recording Years and we felt it was the start of something special. We knew it was a great record and hoped that things would pick up a gear and we would maybe get a bit more attention than we did. We had a very special year indeed, but that didn’t happen and, with every other band getting bigger and bigger, it silently crushed us in to the ground. This is definitely another reason that Serj left and I don’t blame him. I know a lot of people care about this band and it’s one of the most amazing feelings in the world to hear what I have heard from people that actually give a shit. However, we still need to take a step back for a while and see what happens. The thought of trying to find a new drummer, getting to know them, learning the songs, writing new songs, recording a new album and then touring it for a whole year in every toilet venue in the country doesn’t excite me right now where in previous times it would have. I never thought id say this but its time to have a rest.
We are not spitting up and I hate the term 'indefinite hiatus' but its time to go away for a while and work out what’s going to happen. Thanks to every single person that has ever been involved in Secondsmile. There are so many people to thank I just don’t think I could fit the list on this page. Everyone from our label, to magazines and of course you, the fans that are reading this now. It’s been amazing so far and we hope to get back on track as soon as possible. Lets just say cheers, for now....

Hey guys,

Happy new year to you all. Unfortunatly we kick of 2009 with some sad news. After 6 long, hard, but brilliant years, Fiann has decided that he no longer can play drums for Secondsmile. Over the last few months, our heavy touring schedule has been hard work for us all, but Fiann feels he can no longer commit as fully as he would need to, to carry on this year and more to come. This is, of course, absolutley gutting as he has been our backbone for the last 6 years and we have been though many many things together, from our first two track e.p, to touring all over the world and recording two albums together, as well as many other amazing times shared.

So, this is a emotional thing that wasn't taken lightly by him, or any of us for that matter.

Fiann didnt want to leave without saying goodbye:

"This is the hardest and most thought about decision I've had to make in my life, it's not something I just decided, Its taken a long time to come to this conclusion and I haven't taken it lightly. I hope that everyone will understand my reasons for leaving,  i've loved this band for every second that I've been a part of it but I've come to realise that it is not what I want to be doing with my life and the touring schedule of last year showed me that it is not something I could do.  I wish I was the kind of person who could be on the road, in a different place every day, but I'm not, and i've had to come to terms with this myself before I could tell anyone.  I want to thank everyone I've met over the past 6 years for all the amazing times, I wouldn't trade any of them for the world. I want my band mates to know that they aren't just friends, they are my family and I'm going to miss them beyond belief and I wish them all the success in the world, they deserve it,  I know they are going to move on to bigger and better things. It makes me so happy that they all understand my reasons, the last thing I wanted was anyone to be hurt and I value their friendship higher than anything else, I love you guys and always will, we've done some incredible things and I'll cherish these 6 years for the rest of my life.

I wish everyone well for the future,  here's to Secondsmile becoming the biggest band in the world,  I can't wait to be down the front for the next show. I know the next album is going to be something truely ground breaking.                                                               Thankyou everyone.

Fiann/Serj."

He is a best friend and a brother as well as an amazing drummer so he will be greatly missed. Those of you who know us well will know that we are more than band of musicians, we are closer than any other band i have met so we now have the extremley hard task of figuring out what to do next. Saying all that, his leaving is on completely friendly terms, we understand and even feel his reasons and we wish him all the luck in the world with whatever he decides to do next. We also want to thank you Serj. Its been a fucking ride bro, somthing that we hope you will always cherish. Love you man.

So, in the weeks/months to come we will figure out whats happening. If there are any drummers reading this, then by all means get in touch though i cant promise anything.

Thanks for reading.

Wow, its that time again. The year has finished and its time for reflection. First off, i hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas and all your wishes were granted. All of us Smilers each hade a very chilled time which was just what we needed after the hectic year we had. But now we are all refreshed and ready to go.

So 2008, what a year it was for us, we had some of the most amazing times we have shared as a band, and memories that will last forever. Lets have a run down shall we...

January was pretty quiet on the outside, but inside we were frantically getting ready to record our second album 'Years'. We played a few shows but most of the time was spent finishing off tracks and getting shit sorted!

So, in Feb we flew out to New York to record the album. To say we were excited about recording in this amazing city with a producer of such stature would be an understatment...And our hopes were completely filled when we got there. Three weeks spent living and breathing the city and the record was somthing that we could have only dreamed of when we were first starting this band all those moons ago... It was such exciting times, the start to the year ahead armed with what we thought was a great, great record. We just couldnt wait to get it out in the UK!

When we returned from the States, the next few months were spent on the build up to the release of the album, doing lots of pressy kinda things and trying to get peoples attention on Secondsmile again. As we hadnt released anything for almost two years, and the new record was quite a step away from previous work, we were excited and anxious to what people would think. The album was set for release in July so until then we spread the word, sent songs to people, waited for reviews and played some shows. We did a nice little tour with our freinds in  Colour in April, before we set out on  a tour for the album release, spread out over June and July. We played some amazing shows with the likes of Rival Schools, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly and with our friends such as Colour again, Blakfish and many others. We had two awesome album release shows in London and Bridport which made our hearts fill with joy as it seemed people were once again excited about Secondsmile.   On the 4th of July our album 'Years' was released, which had by then recived amazing reviews which we were so happy about.

The rest of the year saw us hit the road hard. We played around 100 shows in total and had some great times with some totally amazing people. We constantly toured the UK with friends Caesura, Colour, Wintermute, The Attika State as well as shows with Blakfish, Tubelord and more of our dear brothers in rock. We finished off the year by doing a 6 week tour of the UK, France and Spain which was just mind blowing. France and Spain for three weeks was a highlight of our touring career. The shows out there were just incredible and the kids just LOVE live music. We could have stayed out there for at least another three weeks to be honest but we had to come back to round the year of in December with the annual BSM Christmas tour which we were once again taking part in. We played 5 shows around the UK with some of BSM's finest and it was a great way to end the year.

Overall then it has been a pretty hectic year. We have seen so many things and i just hope people who have bought our record, sent us an email, said a nice word or come to a show have had a great time too. After all's said and done, with us runing round the world having a great time, it all boils down to you, the fans, the people that really matter. Thank you has to go out to each and every person who gives a fuck about this band. We are nothing without you and i just hope we can keep building and building untill there are enough of you to do this shit properly. We love doing this and i want to give so much more back to you guys.

Thanks so much for the support over 2008, it means the world to us.

See you next year.

This has to be a flying visit to myspace land as, as i am writing this i am sitting at a computor in a radio station just ouside of Barcelona called ..Êl Prat Radio where we have just done an interview trying our best to get everything accross with the language barrier.  We have had a day off today so we have just been hanging out in this amazing city and tonight was the next best thing to a show getting to play some of our album to the spanish radio listeners!
The shows have all been awesome so far, we have been playing to lots of people each night and have been partying hard with the locals. So, our first leg of our tour of the UK is complete, we had an amazing time, played some awesome shows, and made some new great friends. Thank you to everyone that came out to see us, to all the bands, especially Targets and Wintermute, and to the promoters who put us on. Was a blast!

The next instalment starts next week, as we head off for the whole of November, first of all hitting some southern UK towns with our new friends The Attika State, then one show with the mighty Don Caballero, and then off to France and Spain destroying cities with Robot Orchestra! Fun times to come i hear you say!

And if we werent going to be knakered enough after that, we are then heading out again in December for the BSM Xmas Tour which we will be starting on the 4th! Hectic end of year run we hav4e but we wouldnt have it any other way! Next year we have big plans and we may only be doing one last tour to promote 'Years'... Exciting times though my friends...

Current mood:  blissful

So, we are back home now after a good solid week of rock'n'roll. We actually have one more show this Saturday but as we are back in Bridport now and Yeovil is only up the road im calling this the end of tour.....And what a week it has been, we had the pleasure of playing with two of our very favorite bands, Caesura and Colour. I feel a bit left out that we dont begin with the letter C but ill get over it..In time..All the shows were really great, the turn outs being the best i have seen in this day and age of people appaerntly not going to shows any more, unless your on the cover of Kerrang and have 8 billion myspace plays a second. So, overall it was a success! Thanks you to every single person that cam out to Norwich, Winchester, Southampton, Cardiff, Plymouth, and then Bath and Kingston when we were all alone and both bands deserted us.. Fun times were definatly had, before, during and after playing the gigs. Hanging out with everyone was a joy and i have some fond memories. ( Such as Trood and Lewis having a dance off in a sevice station on one of those virtual dance arcade games- Trood shouting and swearing at the top of his lungs while familys were enjoying there Burger Kings just feet away). Of course many more exciting things happend, all of which are a bit hazy in the post tour dream im now in. But needless to say, they were all great times. So a big big thank you goes out to everyone involved in the tour, the promoters, the fans, and the fans who bought merch from any of the bands, the people who lets us kip on their floor, especially Louis, we will be seeing you after Newcastle my friend! All the bands we played with and all the people we upset along the way. Last but not least thank you to Louis, Rob, Venus,Woody,( sorry for my harsh words about you know who)Mossy, Alan, George, Trood and Lewis- and of course my lovley band mates for making this an awesome tour for many reasons.

If you want to read in more depth about the weeks events, through the eyes of Rob from Caesura, then head on over to thier page where a tour diary is up for your reading pleasure. And of course, if you havent checked out the two bands in question then you should. NOW!

The touring doesnt end for old Secondsmile, we just have a litle break before we hit it hard all the way to the end of the year. Check out the dates like.

Lots of love.
