...was super fun! (the occasional technological drama notwithstanding). Video (not really conveying adequately the total fabulousness) here. Some photos here and here. Discovered a new potentially favourite city (Budapest!), and a few new cuisines and vintages (though where were the lavender dumplings?). Also had an amazing time playing in Gijon…thanks so much to everybody there!

Continuing the trend of unconventional venues, I just played with Barbara De Dominicis in a former slaughterhouse at the Bestiario Festival in Rome, with Loris Vescovo in a tent, and with Paolo Dellapiana and Sergio Ricciardone in a bubble (at the amazing Fies Factory One event in Dro). In October, I'll be doing more Johnsoning, in Los Angeles, New York, and London…and in a couple of days I'll be opening for one of my favourite artists, Barbara Morgenstern, at Galapagos in New York. In November I'll be touring with my friends Larsen, playing with them (Jamie Stewart will also be along) and opening solo. I'm also looking forward to playing with Blind Cave Salamander and Fovea Hex in various places, some of which…who knows?...might actually have a roof and a stage and seats, that sort of thing…

Allegedly subterranean band Blind Cave Salamander has done a couple of high-altitude shows recently: on a roof (BCS appears at 1:56) and on a mountain:

Spectacular! Also: chilly! I have been promised that the next gig is at sea level…
Over the past couple of weeks I also did a show with Barbara De Dominicis (our improvised duo project, "intermittenze," now has a web site) and stayed with her in a haunted palazzo in Rome (ok, it was more of an abandoned apartment, but it was quite atmospheric) to do a photo shoot for Drome magazine. Then we almost got arrested for filming in a parking garage in Padova, so maybe the subterranean thing is not so advisable after all…
In September I'll be Johnsoning in Portland, Milan, and Zaragoza, and doing some more shows with Barbara in Italy.

...back home from the UK leg of the Stars of the Lid tour, relieved to have survived the vagaries of the English spring…and the Scottish nightlife. I shall miss playing that beautiful music…but now it is time to reacquaint myself with those black notes with the stems…
And I had a truly fantastic time and met a whole bunch of amazing people playing solo shows in Cornwall…what's Cornish for "thank you very very much"?

Current mood:anomic
...just back from Stars of the Lid's North American tour…during which I refined my ability to play whole notes very, very slowly. Seriously, it was a joy to get to perform their amazing music…and to play with my new favourite colleagues, violist Ella Baruch and violinist Kate O'Brien-Clarke. And of course to reacquaint myself with the glories of American truck-stop cuisine...
Pictures of the New York show are here
The SOTL tour continues from May 17 to 25 in the UK...dates are at myspace.com/starsofthelid. After that, I'll be doing a couple of solo shows.
Oh, and here is some video from "Intermittenze," the improv duo shows I did with Barbara De Dominicis in March. We are hoping to do a few more over the summer.
And "Trinidad," a documentary film to which I contributed music, will premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival in June. More info and trailer at www.trinidadthemovie.com.

And, while we’re on the subject of visually challenged amphibians, Blind Cave Salamander has crawled on to myspace: www.myspace.com/proteidae.

Back from solo shows in Ostersund, Girona, Grenoble, Bologna, and Cividale; playing in Barcelona with the ineffably amazing Fovea Hex and the indescribably amazing (r)...and recording with Barbara Morgenstern and Blind Cave Salamander. Thanks so much to everybody…you know who you are!
Heading off again to do two improv duo shows with Barbara De Dominicis in Catania and Padova, play (I think) with my dear friends Larsen in Torino, and then join Stars of the Lid’s North American and UK tours in April and May as part of their string ensemble.
