Just put a new track up!

A little new something I've been working on since I got my nice new Mac & Logic Studio.  It's sample free and just an example of other things I like to work on.

Apparently Mr Bruce doesn't like the guitar at the beginning...

Well I don't like him...

Lovingly yours,
Mr Chuckles

P.S. oh and look, 70s funk/country with borderline camel toe!

Ooo, haven't written here for a while!  We've been getting some complaints that we don't update our page enough, so here I am.

Right well where to start.

Had a reletively chilled beginning to 2009 (at least compared to the end of 2008).  Not quite the 4/5 gigs a week thing we had going in December.

Well we've been slowly but surely working on new material.  Anyone who's caught us recently might have heard a few new beats and bobs.  Some cool stuff coming, a few collaborations and what not so watch this space.

Festival season is starting to come together.  Glastonbury, Glade & Lovebox are confirmed.  Looking into Secret Garden Party & Bestival as well.  Might do a set somewhere at the Camden Crawl.  Got a gig coming up a Cargo in June which should be dope!

Oh, and lots of weddings.  Gotta love weddings.  Mr Bruce does the most lovely rendition of Brown Eyed Girl.

Oh and we're playing at Selfridges for 3 Sundays!  Not quite sure the set up or timings yet but if you want to have bop while you're buying your summer hampers pop on down.  Will definitely be during the day.

We've been spreading our wings recently too.  Cardiff, Belfast, Brighton, possibly Swindon!  Will someone please book us for NY btw.  That's the big one.

Umm, what else.  Just got a DVD of The Day Today.  F-ing genius.  I just got my first Mac, not as in Early Learning Centre, but a proper G5 with a new copy of Logic Studio.  Yummy...

Also...

I'm pregnant.

Umm, not much else.  Here's a new old Mr Chuckles track btw!  Called "Wanna Go Home", cheeky little swingy broken beat number...

Keep it reel, off the hook, definitely not bait,
Love,
Mr Chuckles

Ahoi!

Right next up is a bit of Jump Blues meets Rhythm & Blues from
Wynonie Harris. This guy is the fucking don! If you think lyrics these
days are suggestive you should check out some of his. Here's a small
sample, "Bloodshot Eyes" is probably his most famous hit (covered by
loads of artists, but originally a country track by Hank Penny in
1950), another hit "Quiet Whiskey" which probably has one of the best
intro's I know, and "Keep On Churnin ('Til the Butter Comes)'" which is
well, you can probably guess what that's about!

I play quite a few of these before our sets so you might recognize a couple...

Edit:  Ooo, and I just had to add this seeing as we're on the R'n'B tip. It's definitely the best version of this song I've heard.

Track:  Look What You Get
Made:  About a year and a half ago.
Artists:  Mr Chuckles (producer)
About: Samples "300 Pounds Of Joy" by Howlin' Wolf.  Was never too sure what to do with it, I suppose it was going to be a Hip Hop track with rappin' and what not.  Anyway I really like it!  Goes a bit Big Beat in the middle with other little changes...  Enjoy!

This is another little thing I've been thinking of doing for a while...

Basically PD stands for public domain, which I quote from Wikipedia refers to "a range of abstract materials - commonly referred to as intellectual property - which are not owned or controlled by anyone. The term indicates that these materials are therefore "public property", and available for anyone to use for any purpose."

This basically means that any music (or any other "intellectual property") falls out of copyright after a government legislated period.  In the UK this is 50yrs after the year it was first published.

This is good news for us (and you)!  As it means that I can sample anything made before 1959 and not have to worry about being paying for samples.  I'm not sure if I completely agree with this, but hey, the law is there...

I'm not a big fan of illegal downloading, although I think it serves a purpose and has done more to promote music since the radio was invented.  However, all very well and good complaining about Britney Spears not being able buy her 5th Malibu mansion, but it does have serious implications for ground level music.  Ask any professional musician.

Anyway I've decided to offer you guys a couple of PD tracks that I think are dope, every now and then.  This isn't illegal, nor is it not profitable for the industry as I'm pretty sure you guys reading this aren't going to be the sort of people ordering easy listening compilations from Reader's Digest!  New demographic and all that, and if some of you like what you hear you might go out buy some more!

Expect a lot of Swing, Rhythm & Blues, 50s Pop/Rock, Blues, Jazz etc...  Music your grandparents listened to, but hopefully the good stuff!

So here we are, first up a tracks by Frankie Vaughan from 1957...

"You've Gotta Have Something In The Bank Frank"

http://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/arrenk

"Kisses Sweeter Than Wine"
http://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/glbtlv

Peace,
Mr Chuckles!
