No sugar, no cream, The Half Jeffersons on the Front Line……..
Similarities to Third Eye Blind and Taking Back Sunday can be heard throughout THJ's tracks. "Sweet Angel" is an emotional anthem similar to Taking Back Sunday's "Cute without the E". Keyboard and guitar melodies generate anticipation through variations in speed and intensity. Vocal harmonies are woven throughout, building on the foundations established by rhythmic guitar riffs. THJ successfully communicates a depth of emotion through the use of echoing, screaming vocals towards the songs finish.
"Yours Truly" is an instant sing-a-long on the local circuit, including Richmond landmarks in the lyrics. The acoustic , relaxed style of "With Regrets" is not unlike the folkish ballads of bands like Dispatch or Death Cab For Cutie. "Don't You Wonder" is the most pop-heavy of the tracks increasing the range of THJ's appeal. The band has a strong dedication to their city and local audience, considering Alley Katz home. THJ also exhibits a high level of respect for their fellow local acts such as Love and Reverie.
When asked "what do you hope listeners can take away from your music?, bassist Nick Smith said only "I hope they smile, and walk off with some words in their head". A laid back attitude has allowed THJ to cross the lines of genre, making music using multiple styles.
