DJ Exile is playing at HeavyRTN on Friday July 25th, 2008 to help us celebrate our relocation to Pi-Rem.

He sent us some exclusive joints. He did a song with 50 Cent hahahaha.

Flip Flop mixed it and here it is for yall to download:

Alright alright...so yall have been wondering about the move - when it was happening, where we were going, what the heck was going on...well here's the blog post that informs and educates :)

We decided to move cause none of our current deejays wanted to play upstairs at Chesterfield. We loved Chesterfield but there is a very particular vibe to HeavyRTN and that vibe died when the djs found themselves stuck upstairs - blame the fire marshall for that one. The new home of HeavyRTN is at the Pi-Rem Hybrid Lounge down in old town on NW 4th and Glisan. This spot is pretty much perfect. Its got a dope lounge area with a whole area sectioned off just for dancing. Everyone kind of forgot about this spot cause they had to shut down for a few months to install some new bathrooms. They opened again but like I said, everyone was like yeah Pi-Rem shut down. Nope and HOORAY for that!
Peep the photos @ www.pi-rem.com

Before I even go further with discussion about how awesome and perfect this venue is for us, let me just say that they do not have the liquor license yet and only serve beer and wine regularly. However, I know how my Heavy Rotators like they're liquor so Pi-Rem scored 2-3 temporary liquor licenses for us a month. We'll have a special HeavyRTN drink menu specifically for the night so all you damn lushes can get your crunk on :) They should be getting their full liquor license within 3 to 4 months so yeah, until then, we can get liquored up almost every HeavyRTN.

These guys have a brand new sound system too so its bumping in there and its really well ventilated with air conditioning so it'll be hot but it aint gonna be a sauna.

Aside from being in a really good location where everyone can easily just stumble over too on the weekend, we've now changed to every Fridays and have installed resident deejays. Don't worry, every week 1 guest will join our residents. We've just evolved the concept of HeavyRTN. The residents are Flip Flop, Equestrian, Queasy with one more to be announced. Also, we've added about 7 new rotators onto the guest list (many a fine dj had problems with playing at the previous venue but no more!).

We will be launching new profile cards, our new advertisements and tons of press releases in the next couple of weeks - be sure to holler if you want to support by putting the flyers on your myspace pages and sending out bulletins.

WE GOT DJ EXILE COMING UP FROM LOS ANGELS TO HELP CELEBRATE THE RELAUNCH ON JULY 25th!

www.myspace.com/alexile if you haven't heard him - he's the mind behind the beats for Emanon, Blu, and recently he's been dropping gems for Mobb Deep, Styles P, and 50 Cent.

Its going to be dope.

Anyways hit me back with the comments and questions!

Peace

Current mood:  bouncy
Hi all!

We wanted to update you on the major change at HeavyRTN which may or may not affect your view of the night.

We are moving the deejay booth back upstairs to its original location. There I said it.

This isn't the HeavyRTN gang's idea though. The fire marshall is making us move because of some building code violation.

I honestly feel like this doesn't affect the night at all because really, its the people who define the night and our identity has slowly come to fruition over the last four months since myself and Sara Moski started HeavyRTN.

I wanted to take this opportunity to give the night an overhaul and make some valuable changes that will further help define the night for both ourselves and the fans.

I recognize the value of associating specific deejays to a night to build the value of the night not only around the atmosphere, but around the talent. We have a unique position with the core idea of HeavyRTN involving a spectrum of both music and deejays but I think it is a good idea to give people a balance of dependability and unpredictability. What I mean by this is a combination of resident deejays and rotating guest.

I have noticed 3 particular deejays in the lineup of over 20 deejays who have stood out as bringing a unique energy and vibe to the night that has captured the essence of what the night is about. They've consistently packed the dance floor with selections that have made for some of the most memorable dance parties I've partaken in. So many regular attendees, myself included, look forward to these three playing every month that its only natural to make them the first permanent residents of HeavyRTN. What you'll get out of this is an excellent resident deejay you can come to expect weekly + the regular melting pot of rotating guests paired up with our resident crew. IT IS STILL HEAVYRTN! We'll just havea weekly resident paired up with 1 guest out of our massive special guest deejay pool (close to 25 and growing).

The 3 resident deejays are the lovely Equestrian, the lovable Cutmaster Queasy and Flip Flop (he's cool too). These three have swelled the Chesterfield to the point where people spill out the doors. They are incredibly fun to be around and having them upstairs won't change that. They get breaks and are basically forced to come down and mingle with everyone (not that they wouldn't anyways) so none of the intimacy of the night is really lost.

Plus, look on the bright side...we work damn hard to promote the night and try to give you the best bang for your buck. The philosophy of a foundation of quality music can only allow the night to grow...deejay upstairs just means more room to dance!

I've updated our "About Me" section to detail all the changes so peep it and give feedback.

Oh yeah and I'm taking the fourth resident spot HA!

Peace,

So I've been trapped behind my computer for the last week drafting up riders and tour contracts...NO FUN! I keep thinking towards the weekend when I can go grab a beer and see all the good people at the spot and I realize I'm so wrapped up in it I'm promoting to myself haha.

Anyhoosus...for those that didn't get to witness the first Heavy Ro bar brawl last weekend, it was unexpected and a bit on the hysterically funny side.

There was a bald, kind of gnarly looking dude with a cane and a heavy limp that strolled into HeavyRTN with his equally gnarly white rasta homeboy with fat dreads. There's also this camera guy there snapping flicks of people and cheesing the whole night. I actually really liked that dude. Seemed like a righteous guy. They were sitting next to each other all night and I didn't think nothing of it. I actually didn't even give them dudes a second glance. So nearing the end of the night, all of a sudden I see dread dude and camera dude tackle each other to the ground beating the shit out of one another. Cane man steps up and hobbles over to the human face mash pile and starts beating his cane down randomly and obviously hitting both of them.

I'm like WTF IS GOING ON?!?!?!?!?!?!?

So I casually walk over (like an ultra pimp) and as the cane man lifted for another swing, i snatched dudes cane out of his hand and proceeded to beat all three of them...ummm.....ummmm....

jk

i just snatched the cane and yelled at them. At this point Equestrian cut the music and you could hear her rich voice yell out "Get the fuck outta here"!

So dread dude gets kicked out and i'm holding onto cripple dudes cane and cam dude is getting his shit together...then all of a sudden cam dude rushes outside and tackles dread dude and smashes his face to the ground dislocating his arm. Again shit was broken up...and everyone was like WTF IS GOING ON. Ambulance and cops were called.

What was funny even more was that Equestrian as soon as dudes were out kick started the music again and everyone kept partying like nothing went down.

I went back inside and everyone was dancing and having a good time while you could see all the sirens and flashing lights outside...

Turns out fight started cause one dude called another dude an "Idiot"!

CHEERS TO HEAVY ROTATION!

I <3 you!

PS - another story that defines how ill this night is was when Sugarman's serato froze and the music cut out and instead of bitching and wining like every other place would have...some attendees yelled "REMIX" and started a soul clap and kept on dancing while Sugar fixed his serato...ILL SHIT!

PSS - i love booty!

Category: Parties and Nightlife
It's been a few months or so since Huy and I donned Chester capes and tights (they make our legs look good shon!).

Armed with dirty martinis in one hand and extension cords in the other, we've showed up every Saturday determined to see our beloved Portland patrons cabbage patch until the point of delusion. We've booked platter spinners from all over the place who have each answered the musical call of duty in the name of humpfests and making babies. They done brung the heat in the form of funksoulbreaksbailledancehiphopmashups, 45's and empty plates of polenta and creme brulee. Sometimes they even let us take their snap, which promptly gets slapped into the photo albums. These delectable deejays are nice like that. And do check the albums - You might find your shiny, happy, smiling face caught mid-soul train. Yippee.

A giant ring around the roses for Chester's smashing staff. Russell, Wendy and the posse have stirred us much drank and put up with all our antics. That's love.

In an effort to keep our speech short, a ginormous THANK YOU to all the lush life bridgetown kids for coming out to experience the Heaviest of Rotations this side of the Willamette. We've got more tricks, more treats and more sweat sessions in store. Trust.

Namaste and bless - Huyner and Moski
