First of many to come... reviews of our debut single Tell Me What I Want:

Fashion. Music. Style Magazine

------
Isolated Atoms ‘tell me what I want’ (weekender). Buggering hell this is good, debut release from Birmingham or thereabouts based quartet Isolated Atoms may just be the cause of a fair old rumble or two on the more tuned in radar sets belonging to the ever watchful underground cognoscenti of this creaking nation. They’ve already caught the attention of a certain Mr McGee, recorded a live set for the BBC scarcely before they’d bothered to officially commit to tape, been frantically snapped up by Weekender who nipped in while their rivals backs where turned and to ice the proverbial cake word has it that Mr Hook of New Order fame is in the frame to produce their next single. So is their debut twin set worthy of the fuss. Quite frankly yes. ‘tell me what I want’ is capped with the same electro chill thrill dynamic that was once the given remit of B-Movie releases of yore, a delirious arm shot of pulsing death disco nu romantic noir shocked through with life support zapping halos of coolly tipped strut gorged riffage and arrested by a drop dead gorgeously vibrant and consuming wide screen aspect calibrated one imagines to fix you in its glaring headlights and knock you arse over elbow off your listening perch without so much as a by your leave. That said it pails when compared to its attending flip partner ’here we go’ - a bit of a titan this one that combines the pulse racing floor pumping electro surge of the strangely quiet of late White Rose Movement (if truth be told its probably one of the finest things to come our way since their ’love is a number’ debut from a few years back) with the splendour, the grandeur and the streamlined pristine pop finesse of a youthful A-Ha and wraps the union into a frantic panic stricken slab of seizure sizzling speaker spanking epic electro euphoria. ISOLATED ATOMS – TELL ME WHAT I WANT – WEEKENDER RECORDS....

Taking the disparate elements of The Music, Placebo & Interpol and creating something deceptively dark and danceable…....

There’s just something about this music. The rare and at the same time suitable mix of psychedelic rock, electronic alternative rock makes this personal and memorable. The vocals are irreproachable and suit this music perfectly, as it almost sound like some sort of rock opera.

‘Tell Me What I Want’ is the debut single from Isolated Atoms and comes in the form of an upbeat guitar led success.

Having formed the band little over a year ago, vocalist Grant Leon Ashman, guitarist Mark Neat, drummer Jake Osei-Tutu and multi-instrumentalist David Davies have obviously made a very strong musical bond, as this is a very sturdy song. It consists of an upbeat guitar based rock melody. Grant’s vocal presence has an ominous edge to it. After listening to the song five or six times, the dramatic vocals make quite an impression. The voice is fairly high pitched yet deeper toned. There is a desire to be heard emitted as the chorus is put across.

Birmingham (outskirts) based quartet Isolated Atoms certainly have a song worth listening to with ‘Tell Me What I Want’ and a style worth keeping an ear out for the future. The second track on the CD, ‘Here We Go’ deepens all the atmospheric conditions created by the single.

"The first time I heard this track, I knew we had to get these guys in for an acoustic session. Can't wait for more!"

‘Tell me what I want’ is the upcoming single from Isolated Atoms. This band have been hotly tipped for 2010 and they certainly have a sound which takes you rushing back to the early 90’s with their ‘Joy Division’ musical style and approach. Through constant touring and continued support from fans, they have come to the attention of Peter Hook (New Order) who has already confirmed his interest in the band. I would say that this band could certainly re-awaken the upbeat pop-discotheque vibe that has been lost over coming years. There is no denying that room in the current music scene would allow for Isolated Atoms to climb through the ranks. This two track EP should stand them in good stead for success. Regardless of personal music taste, I would admit that ‘Tell me what I want’ is a song which I could imagine filling venues around the country as fans move to the underlying happy-go-lucky beat which runs throughout. A band which you will hear making an impact on the radio in the next six months without a doubt.

SINGLE REVIEW: ISOLATED ATOMS – Tell Me What I Want (Weekender) - Counting time but it ticks no more... um...  Isolated Atoms. Decent regimented indie-pop with a touch of drive about it, a kind of New Order/Joy Division flavour (that apparently has Peter Hook’s approval), touch of Depeche Mode, touch of a lot of things actually. “The name derives from Joy Division’s Isolation album”, I think we get the idea, we know where their atoms seed themselves – a grower, didn’t really grab us fully first time, growing now though, hooking us in with their radio friendly heroicness, kind of sound like that band The Bravery, that’s no bad thing, decent first single, worthy of further investigation... Debut single out on Sept 28th  - www.isolatedatoms.com

If you were to imagine an uncharacteristically upbeat Interpol number with dark melodic undercurrent intact, topped with some tasteful electronic elements that the likes of Depeche Mode and New Order brought to prominence in the 80s and an accessible, chart bothering hook thrown in for good measure, one might end up with something along the lines of ‘Tell Me What I Want,’ the new single from Black Country Quartet, Isolated Atoms. Coming at a time when Synths are once again in vogue and a strong Joy Division influence is almost ubiquitous within certain areas of the mainstream music scene (Editors, Bloc Party et al,) ‘Tell Me What I Want’ and companion piece ‘Here We Go’ are almost assured of finding success given the appropriate time and opportunity; Grant Ashman’s distinctive vocals going a fair way in setting this lot apart from the competition, of which there is much. It’s well written, solidly played fare, and fans of the aforementioned bands, as well as those gazing into their crystal balls to catch a glance of the charts of tomorrow, would do well to keep their ears open to this lot.

ISOLATED ATOMS: "Tell Me What I Want" (Progressive Pure Sound)
RELEASED?
1st February.
SOUNDS LIKE?
Depeche Mode. Let's play Depeche and Mode. Younger viewers might find it helpful to know that Depeche Mode were an aggressive, drug fuelled, synthetic collation of dramatic noises and poses, bit like David Cameron, only more sincere.
IS IT ANY GOOD? We like insistent, throb-a-thon, faux important, theatre-rock nonsense, so we like this a lot.

ISOLATED ATOMS  Tell Me What I Want (Weekender Records)

Exciting electro rock from Black Country four piece. 'Tell me what I want' is a slice of electro indie at its finest. Opening up with a dirty sounding guitar riff, the drums and synths soon kick this track into fourth gear.
Frontman Grant Ashman's vocals are laced with the sleaziness of Brian Molko (Placebo) and the melancholy of Paul Banks (Interpol). Having already come to the attention of electro indie pioneer Peter Hook (confirmed to produce their next single 'The Truth') 2010 could see these Atoms move from isolation to the mainstream. ****

'ISOLATED ATOMS'
'TELL ME WHAT I WANT'

-  Label: 'WEEKENDER (www.myspace.com/isolatedatoms)'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '1st February 2010'
7/10

The sense of place is important in Rock'n'Roll, so there are times when a record feels and sounds so familiar that it's hard to believe it could emanate from somewhere entirely different.

If you're wondering what your reviewer's waffling on about, then check out the début single by previously unknown quantity ISOLATED ATOMS. Said single 'Tell Me What I Want' could almost be a lost New Order single, such is the melodic, Hook-esque rush of the bassline and the icy strafe of keyboards, so the smart money would suggest this here band come from Manchester.

But not so. Intense quartet ISOLATED ATOMS actually hail from the mysterious outer environs of the West Country. They are a well-drilled outfit, do their uplifting melancholy thang pretty well and in singer Grant Leon Ashman's earnest, Tom Smith-y vocals and Mark Neat's rockist riffing have enough of their own to veer away from sounding like a carbon copy, even if Peter Hook himself has acquiesced to produce their follow-up.

B-side (sorry, but it's still a term I'm determined to use) 'Here We Go' is all urgency and energy and – like its' loftier A-side – won't embarrass itself on the dance floor either.

It's been a year when Indie has rediscovered its' dance floor credentials and while it's hardly 1990 again, bands like Go! Audio, Defend Moscow and The Panama Kings have been running with a similar Indie/ dance crossover sound and making ground. Isolated Atoms offer a darker, more atmospheric take on these shapes and it could well stand them in good stead during 2010. Consider them primed for take off.

Black Country band promote debut single

ISOLATED Atoms, a Black Country outfit strongly tipped to maintain the current strike-rate of Midlands-based groups, play Coventry Kasbah on Sunday as part of a tour to promote their debut single.

Tell Me What I Want / Here We Go, the first fruits of their deal with Weekender Records, was released on Monday on vinyl and digital download only and provides a good indication of the band’s style.

Formed in February 2008, Isolated Atoms – Grant Leon Ashman (vocals), Mark Neat (guitar), Jake Osei-Tutu (drums) and David Davies (synth/bass) – take their name from a track on Joy Division’s Closer album and also acknowledge New Order and Depeche Mode as major influences.

New Order’s Peter Hook has signed up to produce their next single, The Truth, in Manchester at the end of the month and another high-profile member of their fan club is Alan McGee, who recruited them to play a set at his ‘Death Disco’ night in London.
That led to a storming display at the prestigious Koko in Camden, where they recruited a management team and an agent, and the rest, they hope, is history in the making ...
