Jam-packed with sugary melodies and grandiose guitar chords, The Hot Rocks epitomize uninhibited fun. The Nashville based quartet has the appeal of a cutting edge indie rock band but also maintains the wildly infectious sound of a chart topping act.

 

Stacked with charm and energy, The Hot Rocks have earned attention from MTV U as one of 2006's best college bands. It's hard to imagine the pure energy of a live show with The Hot Rocks but if their self-titled debut album is remotely a taste, The Hot Rocks could keep the house jumping until far into the morning.

 

The 13 tracks of The Hot Rocks are sweet, punchy and addictive without ever sounding like teenage bubble gum. The quartet kicks off their debut full length with a track titled "A-Ok." Beginning with the vocals of a carnival leader type voice, the man advises people to "Put away their girly magazines." Then a hard guitar jumps onto the track and everything spirals into a head banging bliss.

 

"Another Night" reflects the youthful angst of waiting alone by the phone for a call. Eric Rocks, one of the quartet's lead singers, laments over the girl who won't call. A subject everyone could relate to, the lyrical basis of this track is similar to something Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy would write.

 

Deftly combining the classic rock tones of The Who and other bands from that era with a fresh new spin, tracks like "I Want You Back" and "Higher" capture a wide range of audiences. Laden with heavy guitar and sprinkled with sugary hooks, the tracks showcase a different side of The Hot Rocks without sounding like they're copying what's already been done before.

 

Jason Hees, The Hot Rocks' drummer, shines throughout the 13 track disc. Already praised in DRUM! Magazine, his performances compliment every track. It's clear that Hees has incredible talent, but he never forces his dominating abilities to overbear the rest of the band.

 

Perfectly fused together to create the type of unadulterated music that's in constant rotation on your CD player, The Hot Rocks have what it takes to become your new favorite rock act. With a new album already in the works, whether The Hot Rocks remain indie or allow a major label to seduce them, you can count on one thing. This rock quartet might be the most fun you've stumbled across in years.
