If you have not heard of the the Gulabi Gang by now, I don’t know where you have been.
This intimidating group of women stand up and fight [literally] armed with sticks and dressed in pink saris, in an effort to make change in their beaten down and neglected village.
The people of this village are being treated horribly, because they do not have the means to make their own money-being of the lowest caste. They have had their electricity shut off in their village, their people taken to jail for acts they didn’t commit, and the women have been beaten and raped with nothing being done to their transgressors.
On May 3rd, Fort is putting on a benefit to raise money for these women, so they can stop physically fighting for justice, develop their own fabric business [run by the women], and support their village on their own. The women have heard of the benefit and are extremely excited that this event is being held. All the support we can get for them is very much needed, and we would love if you could be there.
There will be live music from Two Gallants, Ted The Block, The Deciders, and Trainwreck Riders. Images from an article about the Gulabi Gang will be on display along with their individual stories, courtesy of Sanjit Das, of Vice magazine.
