FIRST LET ME START OF BY SAYING I AM COMPLETELY OPPOSED TO DOG FIGHTING BUT I WAS GIVIN THIS PIECE FROM A FRIEND OF MINE AND JUST WANTED TO SHARE IT.





In the early 1900's there were rules to dog fighting . Not like today where dogs are fought to the death and if they do not perform they are taken out and killed . Back in the day , dogs would be matched at a weight and a fight date would be set . The dogs would go inot a "keep". A keep is where the dog and the owner train everyday to prepare for the fight. Dragging tires, Running , swimming , rolling with other dogs (short fights), and Strenghening their jaws would be common practice. A keep could last up to three months and during that time the dogs "Iron Will" would be tested on a daily basis. The night of the fight the dogs are washed by the other owners ( to insure no poisons are used ) and then put into a 14x14 foot box . The only people in the box are the two owners and the referee. The dogs are put in opposite corners . On the referee's command the dogs are released and they meet like two freight trains in the middle of the box. They fight , not making a noise and at some point one dog will make a "turn". A turn is when one of the dogs has a hold and the other dog is trying to escape . Once that happens the referee breaks the dogs apart and they are returned to their corners. The dogs are faced and if they answer the "scratch" then they are released to resume fighting. A "scratch" is when both dogs claw at the ground to show that they want to continue fighting . Dogs that answer scratches are labeled "game" . To be Labeled "game" is a sign of Respect, you are willing to GET IT ON! . Most dogs are game ,but to what extent the fight will determine ! But every now and then comes a dog that refuses to quit . Scratch after Scratch with punctured Skin , Tattered ears, Lost Eye, broken jaw , broken legs, profuse bleeding , the list goes on but no matter what it is that dog answers the scratch. Once this dog has shown he/she won't quit the fight is stopped immediatley and the top honor you could bestow on a dog is given. That dog has deserved the recognition of being deemed "DEAD GAME" He/she is immediately retired with the hope that they will produce offspring with the same tenacity . A DEAD GAME DOG WOULD RATHER FIGHT AND DIE THAN QUIT ................................... HE OR SHE DID NOT EVEN WIN THE FIGHT .

AND IN THE GAME OF LIFE YOU ARE NOT JUDGED BY WINNING OR LOSING BUT HOW YOU PLAYED THE GAME !!!
