Two more songs nearly finished in the last week, Lavender and Rubbernecks.
Lavender, a drifty little thing we've had lying around as an instrumental for a few months now with no idea where to take it, has come together really nicely in the last couple of weeks... tried to replicate an earthquake for the ending; hopefully it doesn't sound like 3 of us in a room shaking stuff.
Rubbernecks is a 4 or 5 year old song, which really surprised me how differently it has turned out this time. Very sparse, so far just guitar and vocals which is extremely unusual for us. Not sure it needs anything else but we'll see how it sits over the next few weeks and maybe come back to it.
So pretty much 3 down out of the 12 we want to record, not bad progress so far... we've set ourselves the deadline of the end of January to be finished and sometime in May for release so this might be the first one we actually make. Considering our last EP was released nearly a year later than planned it'd be nice to speed things up a little.
Off down to Hill Cottage next week to try and get all my vocals finished for all twelve tracks with any luck.
Everything Always,
DC

We finished recording the first of the songs for the new album this week. It's very different from anything we've done before, for starters we stopped adding instruments before reaching the cpu limit of our laptops.
We are trying something a little more sparse this time out, spending a lot of time getting the arrangements perfect without so many layers of things going on.
The big natural reverb in the hall of Hill Cottage got a lot of use in the last week as I'm sure it will over the next few months.
I'm sure we'll get tempted and there will be some moments of bombast to come, but we're only human.
Next up is Lavender, which is my personal favourite of the ones we've demoed for the album. It's a delicate little thing with a big warm chorus. Will report back when it's finished.

Current mood: excited
Category: Dreams and the Supernatural
We've just about finished up the writing process for the new album, spent the last few months working on new songs and we're pretty excited to get down to recording them now. We're hoping to record them all over the next 2/3 months but have long since given up setting deadlines for these things. All I can say with confidence is that there will be a new Dying Seconds album in 2010, hopefully before the Summer. Over the past few months I've also been working on producing a new EP for Tidal District which is turning out pretty nicely if I do say so myself. That should be out very early next year. If you want to check out some of their older stuff go to: www.myspace.com/tidaldistrictmusicOff down to Wexford to work on the new album this week, starting with Mora Minn and Lavender. Personally I think they're by far the best things we've done and can't wait to get cracking on them in Hill Cottage. Will post an update next weekend. Everything Always, DC

First of all, thanks to all at HWCH for organising a great weekend of music. We enjoyed our show and appreciated all the lovely feedback. From a punter-point-of-view my highlights were Ham Sandwich's cover of Running Up That Hill when Niamh's voice sliced through the bass heavy PA in Twisted Pepper with real proper heartbreaking power, and Super Extra Bonus Party in Andrew's Lane. Man, those guys have some serious energy! Very impressive. Didn't catch his gig but met Rory Grubb in Andrew's Lane last night and am already a fan after listening to the songs on his myspace today. A reductionist review might say Nick Drake meets Panda Bear and the Animal Collective gang, but his music is full of personality so even though that would be a mouth-watering enough prospect it wouldn't be doing him justice. Go there and listen, you won't be disappointed: www.myspace.com/rorygrubbOk, so I'm struggling away trying to get my head around the world of E-Commerce... more difficult and time consuming than I first thought. If it's not a music or graphics program I really am a computer Noob. The new site should be up soon enough and hopefully we'll be selling our music through there, but in the meantime I thought I'd sell our EP through E-Bay. Should anyone want a copy they can go here: http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330369743193&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:ITIf you don't have an ebay account you can email us at info@thedyingseconds.com and we can sort out an internet banking transfer or summink, whatever suits you... We're here to please if possible. Been a great few months; Picnic, followed by Arthur's Day and then HWCH. Up next for us is Phantom's Next Big Thing in early November and a whole lot of writing and recording. Might release an EP soon, maybe an album, might just throw some free tracks out on the website, we're an indecisive bunch at the best of times so we'll see what happens... Anyway, Everything always works out for everyone in the dying seconds... so we'll be alright.

Hey'o,
Just a quick note to say we're playing this Saturday at Bodytonic's Lughnasa Festival in the Bernard Shaw. We'll be on stage about 7pm, so be there early if you'd like to catch us, the festival is on all day from 2pm.
Also, myself and Jack are playing our DySec laptop set in the This Is Pop Baby tent at the Picnic. We'll be on stage Friday at 11pm and Saturday night at 1.30am. The set is kind of somewhere between Orbital and 2ManyDJs, which is slightly ironic or something.
Cheers,
DC

Hello, So here's a little bit of an update on whats going on, Firstly, after a barcode related hiccup our new E.p "Some Grand Romantic Gesture" is now finally available in Tower Records on Wicklow Street and it only costs 5 euro for those nice people who still like to have a physical copy. As far as digital goes, we should have it on Itunes shortly and we'll update as soon as it's avaliable.
"The Ladder Drops" has been chosen by award winning music blog www.Nialler9.com to represent Ireland as part of a global mixtape of 30 tunes called MAP(Music Alliance Pact). Other bands to have featured this year include David Kitt, The Notwist and Super Extra Bonus pary. It will be up on the 15th so go to the above address and you will be able to download all 30 songs.
With regards to our next album, we've shortlisted around 20 songs and we will begin the process of moulding and recording them most likely by the end of this month. The goal is to have the album recorded by this christmas for an early 2010 release. But depending on how the recording goes it may be sooner than that. We're not sure exactly what we want it to sound like yet, Dave is interested in using a lot more live drums and strings at the moment which may cause a few headaches with regards to recording, but I think if we can pull it off it would sound great.
Thats all for the moment, Mark

Our EP Launch is next Tuesday the 16th, upstairs in Whelan's, with support from the excellent Cfit. The EP will be available at the gig for the special price of €5 and from Tower on Wicklow Street for €7 from the following Friday. Unfortunately due to our naivety the digital release of the EP will not be until next month, so for those further afield the wait will be a little bit longer. We'll keep you posted when an exact date is set for the i-tunes release.
