Hello to you all

This will be the last time you hear from us in 2009. We want to take this opportunity to thank every single one of you for supporting us over this last year and for coming to shows and buying our stuff. We well and truly love you all.

So seen as the boys are all snowed in and practice is off, i thought i'd take this opportunity to let you guys into the loop of what we're doing at the moment.

So first of all, we are very very please to announce that we've been invited to be main support to Yashin at Fat Sams, Dundee on Saturday 23rd January 2010. If you guys for some strange reason do not know who Yashin are then go check them out they're in our top friends and there fuckin immense.
We want to see you all come along to this show so buy your tickets NOW HERE http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/user/?region=gb_scotland&query=detail&event=362697&interface=barflynew.

As well as this show we're playing ABC2 Glasgow with our good buds Twenty Twenty on 25th January so Hope to see you there too. We've confirmed a few headline shows as well so do message us for tickets to all these shows and we'll be forever grateful.

They are all on the page, don't be lazy go look now!!

As well as these one off shows we are in the process of being confirmed on a couple of tours for the first half of next year which we are so so stoked about. Unfortunatley we cannot announce anything yet but all in good time.

What i will say is we fully intend to get back to all the places we've been to this year including down south to see all your pretty faces and this is finally looking like being very very possible thankfully.

We have a whole load of exciting things that we're just waiting to announce but can't cause getting stuff 100% confirmed at this time of year is damn near impossible but what i can tell you is set in stone i shall.

Early next year we will be recording our brand new ep in England with John Mitchell at Outhouse Studios. We are super super excited about this and to be honest we think the new stuff is going to blow you all away. Not literally of course. We've been trying so hard to juggle live shows with writing for the new record but we now have a batch of brand new songs we absolutley love and we can't wait for you to hear them. Only thing is we can't decide what ones should go on the record. So this is where we need your help, not yet but soon we'll tell you how!

Eyes peeled peeps.

Sorry i'm being so vague but it is hard not to tell you these things.

I can also tell you that as of January we will have a whole load of new stuff on the myspace... Get excited people!! Details on this coming very very soon!!!

I'm happy and sad to announce that we have no full colour copies left of the lost for words ep so i suggest you try to illegally download it or borrow from a friend. Anyway, if you just wait a few months our new ep will be all good to go. We even have a name for this, which i most definitely cannot tell you. I mean if i had twitter i'd probably already have told you all but prob good job i don't cause the boys would kill me.

On that note, Twitter. Can i just say the chances of the gap year riot getting twitter is very very slim. I know a lot of you want us to get it and thats cool but a to be honest i think we would abuse the privelage. I mean we would probably use ot for posts such as "just made toast!" and "watching inbetweeners." Now while these are both great things for one to do, i don't think everyone wants to know. So i'm afraid it aint going to happen. But please keep talking to us on here and hit mus up on bebo and facebook too. Links are on the page.

Ok so i just really wanna say that this year has been amazing for us and it's all down to you guys so please keep with us and keep coming to shows. You really are the best ever!!

We wish you all a merry christmas and happy new year and we'll be in touch soon with huge announcemnets!

Sorry to be doing this but we've had to pull out of this weekend show at the doghouse due to a injury to one of the members of this band. It's nothing too serious and he should be back to full fitness soon.

Sorry to the promoter and sorry to you guys, but please please still go along.

Good afternoon all,

How is everyone?? Enjoying the cold, wet days and loner, dark nights? Nah, me neither. Fear not, however, because in 13 days time wel be into December, and that means lots of parties, midweek drinking, and most importantly the return of tgyr! to the stage!!

As some of you already know, were off to London in March to make a new record, and so we decided to take November out to concentrate on writing more new material. Weve aleady come up with some really exciting new stuff, so keep your eyes and ears peeled in the New Year for these!!

Our attention, however, now turns to what we enjoy most and do best- live shows. We have 4 shows left this year (one which we cant announce quite yet), and the details are as follows:

- FRIDAY 4TH DECEMBER- Z1 GIRVAN
- SATURDAY 5TH DECEMBER- THE GARAGE GLASGOW W/ YASHIN
- SATURDAY 19TH DECEMBER- THE DOGHOUSE DUNDEE W/ FLOOD OF RED, THE XERTS

If you want to catch us at a gig before santa clause gets here please please message us for details on tickets. ESPECIALLY the Yashin vs Azriel show on the 5th, because we have very limited tickets left, and its going to be some night!! Weve been doing our notorious ticket drops over the last week or so, and will continue with this right up until the day of the show. Theres a wee surprise is store for this gig, so you dont wanna miss out!! All tickets also allow access to the afterparty in the Garage too, for those of you who fancy a bit of post gig dancing!!

Peace

Inverness

So another first visit for us to Inverness in a cracking venue called madhatters. We played a good set to a decent crowd and really enjoyed the show. We very much hope to be back up there soon. If you've never been..GO! I think once all this band nonsense settles down me and the guys are going to move there a buy a cottage, maybe a farm we'll see.

After the show we head back to the apartment we're staying in and after Dave gets his daily fix of pakora we drink lots and lots of beer. Note: Dave is the un healthiest member of this band. Please message him and ask him what he's had for dinner. I guarantee on any given day he will say a take away, Indian, chinese etc etc.

So Neil and Dave hit the hay and the rest stay up having a bit of a Dj battle. Basically we have 3 laptops and 3 djs. Our set is all done in a kinda round robbin fashion if you're not ready or fuck up the mix you're out! Things go well until i start playing 80's tunes. I mean i enjoyed it but not sure the rest did. Fraser on route to bed decides to throw an animal buscuit through the air at me and it accidentally hits Cruise on the face. Oh dear, cue a scene from a benny hill sketch. I'm not sure if he caught him or not but fraser was terrified. FACT!

Aberdeen

Turns out from Inverness to Aberdeen is a 3 hour drive..we honestly thought it was an hour. More fool us. So after getting to bed at 6:30 we start an early morning drive. The van chat is fairly quiet think there's a few sore heads. Things perk up quickly though and we arrive at The Warehouse to see some friendly faces. Its awesome to see people who've made it along to so many of our shows now and keep coming back. We genuinely love to see that. All the bands seem to be sound checking and we're yet again..LATE.

The show went well and we got a great reception so thanks to everyone involved. Our good mates in ATM helped us so much and really made everything run smoothly. Nice chaps. Check them out! Top friends people! Some nice people wrote some kind things about us here http://www.herculesmoments.co.uk/2009/10/avoid-mor
ning-live-aberdeen-231009.html

So after show we all head to some club i forget the name of it and pick up where we left off from last night. 6 jaegers, 10 vodkas, 1 chicken kebab, bad sleep on a sofa freezing cold, mcDonalds breakfast, 3 hour drive and we're home. It's all over! Until next time....

DAY ONE - KILMARNOCK

So after arriving at my house very early (uncharacteristic of us), we end up leaving late as usual. One thing that is a very steady constant in the gap year riot is lateness. Eveywhere we go we're at least half an hour late. It sucks. But it's true! Had a few pitstops on route to Killie. First up we had to check the air in the tyres of the riot van. Now im told they were all meant to be at 55 (whatver that means) anyway, the front drivers one was at 14..Fuck me!! Had we not checked before we set off then this may have been our farewell tour!

Another 3 stops trying to find a new merch board (cause we broke the ours on the tour last month) and we're finally all set to go.

Arrived at The Cell a bit later than planned but wasn't much behind the other bands so all was good. That was until the venue changed it's door age to +18 from +14 40 mins before the show. Bad time indeed. One thing led to another and we didn't play the show. Gutting way to start off the tour but we felt it was best thing for us to do. We shall nit get into the ins and outs. Felt sorry for the boys from Energy but unfortunately these things happen.

Anyway we didn't waste our night, we headed back to mine via ASDA and got very very drunk. Good night indeed!

guitar hero

A good bit of Guitar hero, plenty of beer and some transferable tattoos is a great evening. Beats x factor any day.

DAY TWO - BATHGATE

Ok hangovers aside, Dave makes an audacious statement that his gran used to own a monkey and it got put in jail one night for jumping on a mans head. This is later backed up by a text, YES A TEXT, from his gran. Strange and in my opinion still untrue. We travel the short distance for our first trip to Bathgate still with fake tattoos and sore heads. That aside, the venue is Harleys and after soundcheck the gap year riot decide we love this place! The vibe is awesome and a good crowd turned out so we're happy.

NICE TAT

DAY THREE - LEEDS

So once again after a few hitches we set off a bit late but Leeds is closer than we thought. Three and a half hours driving in the wind and rain before we arrive at Rios. This is our first trip as a band to Leeds so we're all well up for the show and in particularly high spirits after visting Whetherby service station.
Being in a band and travelling a lot, we do spend a large amount of time in service stations and this place is amazing! FACT! It ranks very high in our top services. check it out if you get a chance! Hats off!

After this Neil takes a stint at driving the last half hour. He does however spend more time on the cats eyes than the proper road. All in all though a comfortable drive accompanied by a bit of Young Guns EP. We also passed the John Smeaton lesuire centre. In Leeds, very funny indeed.

The show in Rios had a few technical hitches but all in all we loved our trip and hope to be back soon.

So it's been a while eh?

The reasons for this may be unclear to many but basically neil and fraser decided to fly off to the other side of the world (not together and not literally the other side of the world) but crete and mexico respectively. Anyhows, we're all back and raring to go for our next tour which is very very soon...

Leading me onto POINT NUMBER ONE. If you live in any of the towns or indeed near any of the towns we'll be playing in then please come and see us play and hang out. we're a friendly bunch and always love chatting to you all. If you don't know where we're playing and are too lazy to hit back then click here www.myspace.com/thegapyearriot... easy as pie. What the hell does that even mean anyway?

In the absense of said vocalist and keyboard extraordinaire, we've not been sitting with our fingers up our asses, we have been busy sorting stuff out for the rest of the year. After the October tour we'll be doing 2 more shows firstly at Z1 in Girvan (where we expect to see EVERYONE in Girvan) please don't dissapoint us.. we don't think you will: and secondly in Glasgow at the Garage with Yashin taking us to POINT NUMBER 2. If you like the rest of Scotland want to come see Yashin on 5th December at the Garage then please get in touch and we'll hook you up with tickets for the show in one of our usual ticket drop services we've become famous for providing you with. We're kinda like postmen except we hang about to talk and dogs like us. Some of us more than others. uh hum!!

We're in the process of re scheduling some shows and booking some more. We're desperate to get back to Liverpool and Newcastle asap guys so keep your eyes fixed on the page for details of when this'll be happening. Edinburgh date should be getting sorted for this year definitely also so again keep checking the page. We love edinburger and wish to return post haste. Street teams are doing well guys, anyone who hasn't added there local team yet please do so it really helps us get in touch with you about things we need to get in touch with you about. so. Yeah.

Before Neils departure abroad he compiled a lovely little 10 min edit of our tour with 20 20 last month, POINT NUMBER 3, If you haven't alreay watched this video do so now please and let us know what you think. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mni03DtKvKA

It's getting late so i'm off.

See you all soon i hope? Yes. Good stuuf!!

Onwards and upwards
