social learning theory

(Derrion Albert)

there is no angle, approach, or theory

that tends to the hearts

fallen on forgotten streets

they lay there long after bodies have been collected

broken

in suspended loss

outliving the children who walk by

trees from which we were hung

paved over

turned into communities

graveyards with no fences

 home

where death and struggle are badges of honor

destroying

that which ties us together

we are not yet civilized

they say

we model the violence

that was, and is, inflicted on us

the world

perfecting the twisted lessons of internalizing

hatred and violence

beating ourselves

to give the pain back

to someone

i say

our children are not well

they are dead

dying

aware of the glass walls

not yet focused on the ceiling

still, laughing under the sun

until they are gone

we have learned all to well

to

hold

it together

while we are

f a l l i ng

apart

as if waiting for the perfect child to die

upsetting the false order of death

while

every child who dies is a perfect example

of a society gone brutally wrong

they are so small and cold

mostly black and brown

and

dead

we are responsible

this is not a theory

babies are not really smiling at you

they are modeling the action of the joy we give back

when we smile at them

smiling at us

children are really killing children

they are modeling the destruction we cause

leaving broken hearts in the streets

where life continues

in a painful way

that interrupts our dreams

splitting us from our true selves

ourselves

where we would never live through the death of our children

daily

this is not a theory

the eyes of any child

beg to be wrapped in safety and love

not so tight that they cannot see

but close enough to live and explore

we cannot hold the hand of a dead child

but

we can fall back in love with ourselves

demanding the futures

of our children

there is no angle, approach, or theory

that tends to the hearts

fallen on forgotten streets

they lay there long after bodies have been collected

broken

in suspended loss

outliving the children who walk by

greetings,

from the moment i found out that Immortal Technique was helping to build an orphanage/school/clinic in
Afghanistan, i offered to help in any way that was possible for me.  The orphanage is called the Amin Institute and is now open in Afghanistan.  It is Omeid International that Immortal has worked with, and continues to work with, that is the cornerstone of the Amin Institute.

on
8/14/09. i had the honor of being part of the Freedom For All Benefit in LA for the Amin Institute.  i got to meet some of the folks from Omeid, beautiful spirits indeed, and will continue to support the children at the Amin Institute in any way i can.  it takes a collective to make change happen.  all children of the world are our responsibility; and, you all should know that children are my heart.

it takes more than dreams and planning for any program to run; especially one which exists to support children. i am asking you to actively participate in making the Amin Institute a success.  the true success will be in the lives of the children as they grow into adults and future leaders.  for $25 a month, the food for one child can be covered. i ask you to make a donation. i know times are hard economically for us all; but, the life of any child is worth more than we could ever give. you can also just make a donation! give what you are able!  below are links for more information and a link too donate. it is what we do now that creates the future that we want to see. with all of my heart, i support the Amin Institute and Omeid International. i thank Immortal for including me in his work for the future of these children.

in love and in struggle,
m

greetings my loves:) some of you who have placed certain songs from my page on your page, which i love and thank you for, have been temporarily removed.  as of today, "beautiful resistance" was placed on blogs, which again i am thankful for, but it was not the manner in which i wanted to get "beautiful resistance" to a wider group of folks.  i  have taken extreme care in how i have sequenced the new album. it is my hope that the entire album will be an experience for those who are listening.  with all the super technology around these days, music can be lifted from anywhere, it seems, and posted somewhere else.  i have elected to remove all songs from the new album except "beautiful resistance" until we are closer to release. i continue to thank you for practicing patience with me:) see, i told you there was new album;)

p.s. very soon you will be getting more details!

JULY 18th. 12-6pm

Civic Center Plaza

San Francisco, CA

On July 18th, 2009, hundreds of youth and their supporters will gather in front of SF City Hall for Youth Fest, organized by the San Francisco Youth Commission and the Youth Empowerment Fund Advisory Board. A culmination of the GATHERINGS FOR CHANGE SERIES which has mobilized hundreds of San Franciscans throughout the past 9 months with summits, conferences, workshops and retreats, this event will be the voice of youth who are speaking truth to power.

Youth Fest is a youth-led event with three goals: (1) to celebrate young leaders through the annual “Youth Warrior Awards,” (2) to inform youth throughout the city about community resources, and (3) to utilize music, arts, and culture to encourage youth to become active leaders in their communities.

At Youth Fest 10 awards and scholarships will be given out to recognize the positive changes being made by youth from SF neighborhoods in their own lives and their communities.  Each of the awardees has an inspirational story of rising up to become the change they wish to see in the world.

At Youth Fest a resource/activity fair will educate youth about the many programs and resources offered by community organizations in San Francisco.

During Youth Fest live aerosol painting will take place by renowned local muralists. Art will be displayed that was created at each of the neighborhood based summits.

Local musicians such as The Never Stop Learning Crew, Ise Lyfe, BRWN BFLO, San Quinn, Big Rich, Mystic and Melina Jones will bring their voices and beats to support the empowerment of young leaders. Aztec and Polynesian dancers will open up in the morning and mission–based dance and drum ensemble Loco Bloco will close the event.

The event will run from 12pm – 6pm at Civic Center Plaza.

Ending of the Peer Resources program at Thurgood Marshall in SF. This is such a loss to the community. Having worked with Mica for two years, and having talked to some of her students, i know this will have a wide felt impact among youth.

greetings loves,
i am looking to observe a ritual, preferably religious/spiritual, in los angeles between 4/5 and 4/13. i would be super interested in a Buddhist or Native American one but i am open minded.  i need to do an observation for my anthropology of magic, religion, and witchcraft paper from which i can write a paper.  i do hope that maybe you can invite me or point me in the right direction. many blessings:)
