Current mood:  betrayed
The world of TAKKA has seen some changes in the past few months. We have a new line up and we're working on a new record (right now it's called MOVER / BELIEVER). We're looking forward to sharing it with you as soon as it's done. We're also playing some CMJ-related shows and eating a lot of noodles. Come slurp noodles with us.

Hello. In the summer we were fortunate enough to record a session at Daytrotter. That morning saw us record four songs, after which we celebrated by loitering in the Daytrotter office and accepting, many times, friendly offers to raid the mini-fridge stocked with beer. Thanks to Patrick, Sean and everyone at Daytrotter. It was a great day.

Hello.

Nic Harcourt has long been one of our favorite Radio Persons, so it was a thrill to hear him say some nice things about our song Silence on his video piece Tuned In with KCRW's Nic Harcourt. Check it out here or on our main page in the Press section. Also nice to be in the same piece with My Brightest Diamond, of whom we are fans.

All in all, very exciting!

Cheerio for now, etc.

Current mood:  sassy
We are excited that our song Fever (from our first album) is featured on the soundtrack of and in the movie for Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. The movie is out now and the soundtrack is out in all the usual spots.

Hey all,

This Friday, October 17th, we'll be playing a few songs at The Bell House for Obamarama. The evening is, of course, a fundraiser for That One. Also appearing are Anti-Pop Consortium, Dirty on Purpose and Dragons of Zynth. Tickets are $25. There'll also be a silent auction.

Hello:

We had a wonderful time at our release show for Migration. Thanks to Sebastian (plus marla and angel) from Inlets and all of La Strada for playing with us.

Here are some photos of the evening from Prefix Mag [CLICK HERE].

Artist of the Day: Takka Takka

Brooklyn gents orchestrate atmospheric bliss on unadorned release of Migration, out July 29.

On June 30 we had the pleasure of playing at the Black Cat Backstage in Washington, DC with the Oxford Collapse and Frightened Rabbit. Spin was there, and had this to say about the show.

"Sun-spotted drone (think Clap Your Hands Say Yeah on a methadone drip) gave way to lush soundscapes that called to mind frozen tundras and burning hearts, while frontman Gabriel Levine played his guitar like he was choking the chords out and shut his eyes tight behind his Buddy Holly frames. Set highlight "Silence," off their forthcoming LP, Migration (July 29, Ernest Jenning), transcendently contradicted its title, as the band wrapped barely there atmospherics around spacey vocals."

Silence is now a download from RCRD LBL. Check it out here!

"There's something eerily zen about "Silence." It builds up a platform of snare drum and distorted guitar - over which Levine's vocals flow in a wave-like fashion. "Taker" also has undulating rhythm, accompanied by shimmering instrumentals and a poppier beat progression. Both exude a peacefulness- offering reprieve from a day of cacophony in the city."

The venerable Stereogum premiered an mp3 of The Takers, a track from our upcoming Migration album, and had a few nice things to say:

"Migration isn't just a migration. It's Takka Takka post metamorphosis.

Now in fairness we've based all this on just one quick spin through the new album, but the changes are everywhere (e.g. later on the album, "Homebreaker" hits with a Talking Heads thing, "Lion In The Waves" with a "You And Whose Army"-esque progression, parenthetically titled tracks about "optimists" being right/wrong hit with synthy Eno-isms, etc.). And again, just a one spin verdict ... but the shifts and ambition are a welcome turn indeed. Nice one, Takkas."
