Hey all it's been awhile,

After a long guitarist search, we are pleased to announce we have found a new guitar player ailing from the absolute middle of nowhere....Mr Frank Tidy!

Coming from a blues based background, he has been able to add his own unique style to the old songs and we look forward to working with him on the new album.

Now back as a 5 piece we are looking to play as many shows as possible and to start work on the new album due for worldwide release in 2009!

You can come check out the new line up and new songs at all our upcoming shows!

Laters,

20 Questions:Apnia

Apnia are a five piece metal band from the south coast who i had the chance to sit down and have a chat with
.

Band is:Dan-Male Vocal
           Laura-FemaleVocal
            Wayne-Guitar
            Tom-Guitar
            Scott-Bass
            Ryan-Drums

Not a lot of people know who Apnia are,Can we get a brief history on the band?

Laura: "We got together in about 2000.It was originally me,Wayne and Scott in his bedroom at his parents house,we'd just jam about and stuff. Then we needed a drummer so we asked about and my sister knew Ryan so we got in contact and met up and jammed and it's cool"

Wayne: "When we first met up with Ryan.He shouted and ran across the street at Scott and I we thought a dwarf was gonna come and start on us"

Ryan: "I actually said no to these guys to start off with cos i didn't know them and i didn't know metal. I asked Nat what type of music they played and she said 'Machine Head' so I went home and downloaded 'Davidian' and shat myself of all the songs i could have downloaded, i downloaded 'Davidian' and said no i can't do it"

Dan, you weren't originally in the band. How did you come to be in the band?

Dan: "It was about two years ago,I'd been going to support them at gigs alot and ive known these guys for fucking years anyway, they turned around and said they had some constructive criticism about vocals and harmonies on stage and asked if I wanted to come in and do it"

Ryan: "We were getting a lot of Evanescence comparions as well and we wanted to get out of that"

Which leads me to my next question.Having two singers brings a new dimension to the band, but also a lot of unwanted comparisons. How do you cope with that as a band?

Dan: "To be honest as a band we're happy with how we sound and if people wanna label us as something they can.If they want to restrict it to something like Evanescence because that's the only band they've fucking heard of that's their fuck up.

Laura: "Not ours"

Wayne: "If you have a female singer you're associated with known female bands. When if you actually listen to the music we aren't actually anything like those bands. The music has always been an expession of us, we write what the fuck we like. We're not restricted, we never go "right we're gonna write this type of music".

Laura: "I love the fact they write what the fuck they like then we just jam and this stuff appears,it's great!"

Scott: "If you listen to some of the older songs you can see we're still developing a sound"

Wayne: "Like on the new E.P we've got 'Thin line within' which is one type of sound and you've got 'More than just deciet' which is more of an epic sound and then 'Closing time' which is a really chilled out song.

Dan: "And you've got 'Contrived' whish is a big Fuck you song"

Scott: "Where we shag you in the ass with no lubrication"

(Band laughs)

Obviously having two singers must change the writing style. Do you wrtie lyrics together or seperately?

Laura: "We tend to write at practice although sometimes I'll get an idea in my head and it'll just go around in my head even though I've got no no one to play it to and I'll go to Dan and say I've come up with this amazing thing and he'll say yeah so did I, and a lot of the time it doesn't work together but we use it as a bit of inspiration"

Dan: "I find that cos' Lolly takes the lead on a lot the songs she ends up getting stuff in her head quicker than me cos' it takes me time to get something going in my head properly. Lolly always comes up with some stuff she likes here and there in a song then its kinda like "you take this bit for your own".When we were writing 'The Thin Line Within' and we knew where i was going to be,Wayne gave me a Katatonia album to listen to.Not the shit fucking welsh group! Katatonia with a K.So i sat and listened to it,watched the dvd as well, and bunged on the basic recording of our song and listened to it over and over again and just picked out something and went with it and we did it and liked it."

You guys are known for your energy onstage. How would you describe a typical Apnia show?

Laura: "A hair fest (laughs) lots of leg on my part."

Scott: "For me personally its like when your in a club and your a bit pissed and you just get into a groove"

Dan: "I think it's a case of we get so into it onstage and we just do what we want, and do what makes us feel good onstage."

You recently recorded your debut e.p.What was the recording experience like?

Laura: "It's called 'First Stone Cast'. It was fun to record it was a 159 point plan."

Wayne: "We had to get a project leader in to work it out for us.(laughs) We recorded the drums seperately in a professional studio.I did everything else in my studio,it was fun and a lot less hassle."

Laura: "It meant we could listen to songs a couple of days later and come back to it and be like 'that does suck, lets get rid of it"

Wayne: "The thing we did was record the songs as they are when we play them live and then decided it didn't work and re-wrote whole sections of songs. Three of the songs have completely new sections. In a studio we would have forked out loads of money and not been able to do that and ended up with something we weren't happy with"

What can people expect when they hear it?

Ryan: "Value for money"

Scott: "My dad used to roadie for bands and he had some criticism of the old stuff but says the new stuff is much more complete. After previous recordings we were normally like "errr we don't like that".But the beauty of recording at Wayne's was we edited it, changed it, fucked around with it and got it how we wanted,so I think it's a much more fucking complete and good e.p."

Wayne: "Theres everything on there. The epic songs, chilled songs a bit of everything."

Dan: "I think it showcases the wide stylings we can pull out but still have our own sound"

You cite bands like Lacuna Coil and Sepultura as influences. Is there anyone you'd like to work with?

Wayne: "Devin Townsend"

Laura: "Yeah,Devin."

Dan: "Fleetwood Mac"

On the same song?

Scott: "That would be awesome, could you imagine that?"

Wayne: "The funniest description of our music in a review  was a cross between Black Sabbath and Jefferson Aeroplane"(Band Laughs)

Scott: "Would love to work with Dev"

Wayne & Laura: "Yeah Dev"

Scott: "Or Max Cavelera"

Wayne: "There's a lot of bands we'd like to play with, but the type of music we make doesn't really lend to it, so supporting Devin Townsend would be completely pointless cos' it's not the same style even though we're influenced by him "

Dan: "To play with and support...."

Scott: "I'd love to write with Dev"

Dan:(cont) "Playing wise it would be Lacuna Coil"

Scott: "Although we did play a hardcore gig once and went down really well"

Whats next for Apnia?

Wayne: "Well the e.p's out. We're just gonna aim to be absolutely fucking everywhere whether people like it or not"

Dan: "Promote.Promote.Promote"

Laura: "More writng and gigging"
