Beal Street is a tourist trap with no pure Delta blues that we could find. Cover bands, rock and roll blues, hawkers running around with tip buckets bowing to the tourists and begging. Dueling piano entertainers and karaoke bars instead of six string pickers. This is our second visit this year and both times Beale street was practically deserted. Not hard to imagine why.
The food is still great and the smell of bar'b'que is everywhere.
Today we'll visit the Southern Folklore Center which has always been true to the spirit of music for music's sake, preserving the history and supporting current performing musicians. We're also taking a history cruise up and down the Mississippi. And getting the oil changed.
