Hello World, and greetings from the
frontlines! It's been a while since my last blog, but you can get more
frequent, blow-by-blow details of my everyday on Twitter, so check me
out there for more frequent updates... (twitter.com/asheru)
On the music front, I've had an eventful month of April -
performances with British Soul Star Omar, a fundraiser event for local
Hip Hop non-profit Words, Beats, and Life, and the Run Amuck 5K Mud Run
and Music Festival in Rockville, MD. This Friday, May 1, I will be
hosting an upcoming performance by VA's own SKILLZ, along with my
lovely, Grammy-award winning co-host, Maimouna Youssef.
New tracks being mixed and prepared for your downloadable pleasure
in the coming weeks, please stay tuned for that. In the meantime,
check out my '09 remix of Jay-Z's "Politics as Usual", as part of
Innerloop Record's "Reasonable Doubt" Remix project and tribute.

On the education front, H.E.L.P., The Hip Hop Educational Literacy
Program, is on the way! Fresh off the heels of our endorsements from
luminaries such as President Barack Obama ad Dr. Cornel West, we are
poised to kickoff a global literacy movement, "Get Lit", a global
literacy initiative that brings the education and entertainment
industries together to call attention to the implications of illiteracy
as a public health issue. Stay tuned for more info on that coming
soon, and to get more details of how you can get involved.
Also, check out our newest H.E.L.P. book, based on T.I.'s song, "No
Matter What", a personal story about resilience, perseverance and
overcoming obstacles. Check out some recent photos from our weekly
HELP workshops at Rock Creek Academy school in Washington, DC
And last, but most certainly not least, on the super-personal
front, my wife gave birth to my third child, my daughter Sophia Mariam
on 4/16/09...So I'm gonna be in superman-mode over the next couple of
months making sure that she and mommy are properly cared for but I will
do better in keeping you updated on the goings on...
Shoutouts this month go out to Omar, Zack and Zo! of the The ELs,
The Black Lincolns, my man Roddy Rod ("Get Money" video featuring
Asheru coming soon!), Phonte, Muhsinah, my comrade/web guru Jeramy,
Words, Beats, and Life, Inc., Martha Diaz and Marcell Runell for their
recent big move at NYU, and Harry Allen (Yes, the media
assassin)...Also, congrats to President Obama for an incredible first
100 days, keep on shining sun!
Looking forward to building with y'all again soon. Please stay
tuned to our movement, and feel free to get others to sign up for the
newsletter as well...
