Wow...

Thanks so much for writing!

You are the one that found this video? Where did you get it? First of all Thanks! It found its way to me but was a bit poor in condition. I'm trying to find a better quality tape, do you have any info regarding how the tape was made? or who made it? The one I have may have been played and recorded through a poor vcr, not sure how it was made since vcrs prob werent around in 1970? Hows that? Do You Know a Mike Unold?
I believe either he or Chuck alder had the vhs before I copied it.

Wow I saw that pic of you with Leslie West That is so cool!

Joe wrote back in reply:

I got a tip from a friend in 1982 that there was a guy who had a bunch of Barry Richards shows on reel to reel video tape as that was all there was back in the day available to the public! So I brought my VHS machine over to copy it at the guy's house and he pulled out that archaic reel to reel monstrosity and told me that he only had so much time to let me record the stuff as the guy who actually recorded it would not meet with me so he had come in his place to let me in the house by appointment! It was like 007 ! Really weird! Nobody knows what happened to those guys after that and I'm afraid that is that! The Illusion tracks were difficult to get as the tape heads were constantly slipping and keeping the tape unstable! What you see was our best try out of 6! I managed to get 3 songs from Crow-"Some Sunny Day" "Don't Try To Lay No Boogie Woogie On The King Of Rock & Roll" and "Cottage Cheese" complete with the drum solo and Alice Cooper doing Eighteen! I spoke with Vinny from Vanilla Fudge and told him that I had the Tape and that we would get it to him! He told me that he knew you guys real well! I played drums with Jack Starr for years when I lived on the Island! He says he also knows you and used to hang out with that kid guitarist from Boomerang! My ggod friend John Garner from Sir Lord Baltimore remembers you guys from back then also!
There is a friend of mine that you may have spoken with named Eli who has bought the master tapes from Barry Richards himself but unfortunately half of the tapes were destroyed in a flood in his house! The Illusion one was among those along with the Bob Seger System , Humble Pie and Mitch Ryder! He did a world wide search for these and only came up with Bob Seger's segment which was on the first show!
My friend is releasing this in a box CD set! He want's to include The Illusion as your band is so important to rock history! I actually played around with it on my editing VCR and was able to cut out the horrible glitches, piece it together and it was much more viewable! So imagine if it's taken to a proper editing room! They can give it gentle quick fades in the right parts! He is going to give the videos with questionable quality a disclaimer and explain that some of the footage is all that exists from some of these legendary bands! I will actually be doing a small interview segment as I'm one of the very few who ever even watched the show! It changed my life forever and made me what I am today! I remember every episode in detail! Maybe you guys could give a short interview for the DVD! I'm sure that he would be thrilled if you could! This DVD will be Iconic because most of the acts on the tapes went on to be mega - stars and this captures them at that precise moment right before they broke!
Also I would like you to know that I was lucky enough to see the band in Washington D.C. when I was 13 years old! Your drummer was a powerhouse like our local hero Rocky from The Cherry People!

Circa 1968

1971 CASH BOX  cover

John Vinci aka John Dillion born 1945 in Brooklyn NY
My mother said I was singing before I can talk. I guess I always loved music. When I was a young teenager I sang with numerous doowop groups and in my late teens and early 20's I had
some success with a group called "Illusion". We had 3 albums on Paramount records and
played with some great bands like Hendrix, The Who, The vanilla Fudge, The Allman bros. just to name a few. In my early 30's I was in a group called "Network" on Epic records. Headed up by
the infamous Tommy Matola and did a world tour with Hall and Oates. You can check out
some more information on the Illusions official web site. http://distortedrock.tripod.com/
I started selling musical equipment in the early 80's and worked for such guitar companies
as Dean, B.C Rich, Guild and more.
Dillion guitars was founded in 1996. Dealers and consumers instantly started calling me
John Dillion because I answered the phone and emails John "Dillion" Guitars.
and the name stuck. I thought of having it legally changed but I never pursued it.
I have always tried to make the best guitar I can in the mid price range. I learned a long time ago
you can't please everyone so you have to please yourself.Hopefully you own one of my
instruments and you are pleased with it.

John Dillion I presume? ;-)

Hello John! I am the VERY proud owner of one of your fine guitars (a DR500TI specifically). I've been looking for a My Space page for Dillion Guitars for a while so that we could add you as a friend when I finally found this page! It's nice to know a bit more about the man that made my fine guitar. If you'd like to see it in action check out the videos on our my space page or go direct to our website at www. WeAreArea51. com and click on the VIDEO section.

I don't want to take up a lot of your time. I just wanted to thank you once again for making my FAVOURITE guitar; the one that people always ask me about at gigs and that I proudly let them check out so that they can feel/hear the quality for themselves. Oddly enough, the only change I made with it was the same one you've done for the new touring editions i. e. the toggle switch pickup selector in place of the knob. Other than that it is COMPLETELY stock and I wouldn't change A THING.

Take care, have a great day, and again, THANK YOU. :-)

George Bitzer — keyboard, synthesizer
Howie Blume as 'Howard Davidson' — bass

SAVE ME, SAVE ME
Barry Gibb, Albhy Galuten (1977)
undated 1977
stereo, lead vocal unknown
A side, June 1977; Network, 1977

Around the same time as Samantha Sang's session Albhy and Karl produced an album by the New York rock band Network, who were recording their first album at Criteria. Someone in their management wanted most of them to disguise their ethnic names, thus the silly aliases shown above. Neither of Network's two albums would be well known. However Albhy noted the talents of George Bitzer and he was later hired to play keyboards and synthesizer on recordings by Andy and Barry.

'Save Me, Save Me' was the first song written by Barry and Albhy. It became strangely popular among artists who covered Barry's songs. Frankie Valli recorded it as a followup to 'Grease', Teri De Sario recorded it for her album after she did Barry's 'Ain't Nothing Gonna Keep Me from You', and Rare Earth recorded it for the album following the one with 'Warm Ride'. None of these charted.
