Nat Johnson &The Figureheads "Roman Radio"
CD - £10.99 Buy now from Thee SPC Online Shop
Much anticipated debut solo album from Nat Johnson on Damaged Goods records. Includes the single Dirty Rotten Soul, as released by Thee SPC last year. It's a fantastic album, as you'd expect from Nat, with the same luscious vocals and sharp lyrics we've come to expect from the Sheffield chanteuse. Her backing band, The Figureheads, are a veritable supergroup - featuring Kev Gori (MSTU), Neil Piper (Champion Kickboxer) and Chris Loftus (Fury Of The Headteachers) - and add a bite to the proceedings. Indeed there's a maturity and drive that sets "Roman Radio" above and apart from Nat's previous releases under the guise of Monkey Swallows The Universe.
Tracklisting: 1. Agnes 2. Wonderful Emergency 3. Wasted 4. Envy 5. Truth Song 6. Careful 7. January 8. Dirty Rotten Soul 9. This Tide Will Turn 10. Oh, Face! 11. Watching for Life 12. Interlude 13. All This

Jacks Records Clearance Stock: Sadly, Jacks Records in Sheffield is closing after 19 years of business. We've got a lot of their indiepop/alternative stock on 7" single available in the online shop, most at half-price, too. Too much to list in an email, but here's a flavour: Adam Green, BMX Bandits, The Flatmates, God Is My Co-Pilot, Aberfeldy, The Action Time, Birdland, Cable, Help She Can't Swim, The Soup Dragons, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Wedding Present, Gorky's, Cranes, Dinosaur Jr, 18 Wheeler and loads more.
Click here for a vinyl clearance bargain.
Les Cox Sportifs "Total Straightness EP" 7 inch - £3.99
[click here for details & audio]Les Cox Sportif are certainly an odd beast! "The Hand And The Heed..." start's off sounding like The Modern Lovers before turning into a sort-of XTC meets Cockney Rebel knees-up. Really quite excellent! The Hipshakes/Co Co Coma "Split single" 7 inch - £3.49
[click here for details & audio]Barking garage punktastic fun from this split single featuring Sheffield's very own The Hipshakes. The Yell "Party Lounge" 7 inch - £3.49 [click here for details & audio]A stock find from the recently defunct Jacks Records, this single from The Yell came out late last year, but we were unable to get copies at the time! It's another slice of quirky, dancable punk from this great Sheffield band. Darlings Of The Splitscreen "Hiroshima" 7 inch - £3.49 [click here for details & audio]Stomping electronica from Sheffield's DOTS on this single released by the new Razor Stiletto record label. This was out earlier this year, but we've only been able to get hold of it now! Grammatics "Shadow Committee" 7 inch - £2.99 [click here for details & audio]Recent single from the very dramatic Grammatics of Leeds, who featured in our fanzine Thee Humbug #6 last year. "Shadow Committee" twists and turns thus avoiding pigeonholing. I'd stick it in the hole labelled 'ace'. The Yell "My Baby's Into Witchcraft" 7 inch - £3.49 [click here for details & audio]A stock find from the recently defunct Jacks Records, this excellent single from Sheffield's The Yell featured in our fanzine Thee Humbug #4 back in 2006. Garagey fun with a very Fall-like vibe. The B side Pyramids is better still. The Interiors/Chuck/Champion Kickboxer "She's In Japan/Kill Em All/Thinking" 7 inch - £3.49
[click here for details & audio] A stock find from the recently defunct Jacks Records, this 2006 Wrath Records split single features three bands who've released through Thee SPC. All great stuff, especially the Marychain-tinged "She's In Japan". New Releases In Thee SPC Online Shop:

Allo Darlin "Henry Rollins Don't Dance" 7 inch - £4.49 [click here for details & audio]Lovely new single by Allo Darlin' (named after Mike Reid I assume?) on the excellent WeePOP! label. "Henry Rollins Don't Dance" has a skippiness reminiscent of Tender Trap and b-side "Heartbeat Chilli" is a killer. Very recommended. MJ Hibbett & The Validators "Regardez, Ecoutez Et Repetez" CD - £9.99 [click here for details & audio]Ace new album from MJ&TV. MJ's lyrics are as sharp as ever, whether it be about dancing at indie discos ("Do The Indiekid"), looking after yourself before middleage spread gets the better of you ("Do More, Eat Less") or that odd discovery about Brian in Accounts ("My Boss Was In An Indie Band Once") The Humms "Are You Dead?" CD single - £2.99 [click here for details & audio]Completely ace garage funtime with The Humms. Lead track "Are You Dead?" has a great surf feel to it with a brilliant pop chorus. "Do The Graverobbers" is also totally great, as is the rest of this manic, wildly inventive and goddamn catchy-as-shit EP. Best thing I've heard in ages. Pink Shiney Ultrablast "Happy Songs" CD single - £2.99 [click here for details & audio]Pink Shiney Ultrablast are from St. Petersburg and make a gloriously, etherial racket effortlessly intertwining the influences of bands such as MBV, Cocteau Twins and Ride. This is some of the best shoegazer/noisepop I've heard in a while and I only wish it was a full album. Very highly recommended. The Crack Babies "Smoking At Gas Stations" CD - £2.99 [click here for details & audio]Massively noisy noise pop from The Crack Babies on Odd Box Records. Their paint-stripping feedback is the sound of psychocandy pushed to the extremes, yet with the same underpinning of 60s melodic pop. Lot of fun on this very limited edition release. The Kick Inside "Oh, Vanity!" 7 inch - £3.99 [click here for details & audio]Jangletastic initial release from Odd Box Records by The Kick Inside. "Oh! Vanity" is all intricate guitar work and swooping vocals, kinda like a mix of McCarthy and Gene. Flip "It's Always The Quiet Ones" has a Meat Is Murder era Smiths-like swing.
