Don is has always been the best writer in the band. Here is an obituary he wrote for us:

With my day free to do nothing other than dwell upon tonight's show, the death rattle of 6 years of turmoil and hard work, I decided a final statement should be in order. Not that I anticipate a huge amount of interest, truthfully its more of a selfish exercise in sentimentality, and in the end probably a poor catharsis in comparison to that which I've always found in performing with my three comrades. So if you don't like this, fuck you, I'm doing it for myself (and the band), just like we've always written our music and played our shows.

Which brings me to the heart of the matter. From the start we've taken our work seriously, and maintained a healthy amount of pride and thoughtfulness in what we produce. That failure to compromise is most likely whats brought us to this breaking point, and though I don't regret any of it, it has been frustrating to see our fanbase consistently waning while from my point of view the quality of our work has been consistently waxing. What I'm saying is, "It's all your fault".

I'm currently lost in melancholy and negativity about the whole situation, but by no means was it all a loss. Yes, perhaps all our sacramento shows in 2009 have been an exercise in futility (ironically tonight's will break that streak, and ok we did get to open for Obits) in addition to nearly all the tours we've done, but gains have been made. Great friends far and wide, and fans few and far between, have made it more than worthwhile, despite the few bands and record labels we've been ashamed to associate with. I'll leave it at that and not get any more specific regarding the who's who of friends and fuckers. We've learned that integrity is a lost cause if you hope to succeed in this industry of snakes and bastards, and loyalty is bought with cold hard cash, and is dependent exclusively on the continual flow of aforementioned cash. Which we have never had.

Just know that ive enjoyed it more than anything in my young life (probably even more than sex), so this is can only be the end of Bright Light Fever. We've got no plans for the future, until two weeks ago we were planning our tour in october. But I know I can speak for at least one of the other members of the band when I say that I like it too much, despite all the debts and failings, to call it quits and get a real job and become a grown ass man. That just sounds horrible.

They said it first, but we feel the same way. If you never got a chance to see these guys...you will not want to miss this show. I have always thought they were one of the best bands to ever come out of the northern california area. I was lucky enough to play with them years ago at bojangles and couldn't be happier to be included on this show.

Hi. If you attempt to keep up with our band, then you know that we have been giving away our new ep "Meat Market". (that and the rest of our catalog)

I figured since its been floating around the internet for a few weeks now, that I might as well post all the important info on it. So here we go:

We tracked "Meat Market" in about a week in Van Nuys, CA at a studio called Big Game Lodge. This happened in late January/early February 2009. The ep consists of 5 songs, and clocks in a little bit longer then 16 minutes. Joby J. Ford produced it, and played some mean tamborine as well as some guitars on "Meat Market". He also plays guitar in The Bronx, and that band owns the Big Game Lodge. Joby invited his friend Beau to engineer the ep. Beau plays guitar in a band called Saosin.

Those guys know how to record rock music better then the average dude.

The songs we recorded:

1. Invitateli Lentamente
2. Meat Market
3. BC76
4. Applewhite
5. Food For The Rats

If you downloaded our last full length album "Red Hands in Holy Water" - you will notice that Food For The Rats is also on that album. We reworked it, spiced-er up, and our friend Brad came in and threw a whole bunch of trumpet on it. Brad also play trumpet in El Bronx, and bass in The Bronx.

We are extremely proud of our new baby ep. Its the peak of our work as musicians at this point in time and we hope you enjoy it, and share it with your friends.

So, head to www.brightlightfever.com and the code "giveittome" and get it. For free. Also available on that website are the following albums:

"Red Hands In Holy Water" - Our attempt at a concept album about a made up cult in Spain. Recorded at Springer Road with family and friends. It would have been impossible without the help of John B. from local studio The Hanger. Released in 2008.

"Bright Light Fever Presents: The Evening Owl" - This was our first album. Released shortly after we signed to Stolen Transmission/Island/Def Jam in 2006. Joby Ford also produced this. Our good friend Robert Cheek engineered it. Recorded for a ridiculously large amount of money at The Hanger in Sacramento.

"Rarities" - Jerbot threw this together. Its a collection of rare blf tracks, home recordings, remixes, acoustic versions, b-sides, etc. We'll probably keep adding to it.

To some it up, we're giving your our artistic life works. Absolutely free. We make music, and hope people listen to it and take something from it like we do from our favorite bands.

At live shows, we will be selling download cards for $5. Yes, we know you can obtain all our music online - directly from us - for free. We think of that $5 as a donation, and the cards are cool. You can pass it around to anyone you think might like it.

Maybe we'll print an actual cd in the future....maybe we won't. Maybe it will be on vinyl? Maybe we'll keep recording digital eps? Maybe I'll fucking direct a beam of musical energy right into your brain and turn it up real loud. No one else will be able to hear it but you.

Thanks for giving a shit
XO
Matt & BLF

Hi. Its me Matt.

Thought I'd update our myspace page via blog. Cause...we got stuff to report....and there might be a few people who give a shit. We always give a shit. Its you guys/girls with the problem of "most of the time, not giving a shit". Isn't that what some couples say to each other when they break up?

the ol
"Its me, not you" line. Wait, thats the opposite of what I'm trying to tell you. Cause its not us, its you.

Anyways.

So we just spent about 10 days in beautiful Van Nuys, CA recording a brand new E.P. of tunes. The studio was called Big Game Lodge. A great band called The Bronx own it. Their guitar player Joby Ford produced our first album "The Evening Owl", and we decided it was the perfect time to meet up with him again and record some new stuff.

So Joby produced, our new friend Beau Burchell engineered and the both of them teamed up to mix. Yeah im dropping names. But mostly for the reason that they did such an amazing job.

Songs we recorded:

1. Invitateli Lentamente
2. Meat Market
3. BC76
4. Applewhite
5. Food for The Rats

Maybe you recognize the last song. We re-did it. It was the last song on "Red Hands In Holy Water"...our most recent album. Added some spice on it. We also got a lot of video footage from the studio. Look for a short video soon.

So we will be releasing this in the near future (as soon as we have the money to master it). And on the internet...its probably gonna be a free download. Look out for that.

We'll also print more download cards to sell at shows. And if you buy the download card - you'll get all 3 of our albums for the price of one. Yeah, if you want you can just download it for free when it comes out - think of buying one of our cards as a donation. Actually contributing back to the band if you like our stuff enough to do so. Isn't that called "The Honor System"? Something like that.

Hell, we like you enough to give it away. Send a little back our way if you can/want.

Last but not least, we'll be playing live around the west coast a bunch in the next couple months. Come see us. Dates are posted on our page. First one on the agenda is 2/21 @ the boardwalk with dead confederate.

Bye
Matt/BLFF

hello friends, buddies, mildly interested passers-by. Here I am with the second, highly anticipated, action packed installment of our hot blog. I'm currently sitting in the livingroom at our uncle pat's in anaheim, unwinding from a good game of wiffle ball. but ive said too much, we'll go back in time...

SAT 11/8
I left off at the Flying M coffee garage, which, once again, was completely excellent. Quality people, quality coffee, no qualms here. So we blasted off to Salt Lake City, it was 5 hours of pure joy, let me tell you. In SLC we arrived at Burts Tiki Lounge with a few hours to kill, wich was spent forming a stong bond with our new best friend in SLC, Jimmy. Pizza and watery beer was the name of the game, we didnt even play by the rules, and the show still was good. No problemo, good times Salt Lake style. After our set Evan & Matt's uncle Mike came out, was annoyed to miss our set, but we still managed to get in some quality moments, he was a real nice guy, seriously.
At this point we said adios to all our friends, got in the van and hit the high road for the second time that day. We thought we were off to Tucson, turns out we were confused and were actually off to Tempe, either way it was a long drive and we had to do it by the following night, so drive we did.
SUN 11/9
We arrived in Scottsdale at about 10:30, once again we had time to kill, so after I hung out in the grocery store for a while we realised we'd driven out of the frozen north and it was warm, so we got some smoothies. Oh Boy, smoothies. Then, the whole reason we drove all night came through, our friend Paul invited us over and from there it was the lap of luxury friends, the lap o' luxury. Paul's ever gracious parents had the beer cold for us and beds ready, it was like walking into a dream.
Robert promptly fell into a coma, evan and matt and i found that the beer fed our life force, kept us going. So we had no problem just hanging out, socialising, enoying our new company, just chillin out max, gorged ourselves on a delicious dinner. We went to tempe, played a show that was poorly attended but still fun, retired to pauls casa where we crashed and burned.
MON 11/10
I woke early, thus enjoying the full benefits of a sunny arizona morning. Coffee, delicious coffee cake, newspaper, all the good shit. We were fed an excellent breakfast, we gorged ourselves again, chillaxed again, bid a tearful farewell to Paula and Ray, and were off to Tucson.
In tucson we got a little lost, turned around and out of sorts, but we made it to the venue before our set, so it was cool. It was an interesting venue, it looked to be made of adobe, say it with me, a doe bay. The people there seemed to be feeling it, so it was good. We dropped our buddy Paul off at a friends in tucson, and then were off like a flash, ready for another all nighter, this time to anaheim.
From Tucson to Phoenix on Interstate 10 was honestly the coppiest drive i have ever experienced. It was officers every way you looked, behind me, ahead of me, to the left, to the right....you get the point, it was nuts. Somehow we didnt get pulled over, they just knew that we were too much for them i think. After Phoenix it was smooth sailing, we arrived here in anaheim at 5:30 and we've just been getting a little R&R, if you get my drift.
Like I said, wiffle ball, tecate, uno, all the usual stuff, its good. we're hangin tough. We've got a lot of time to kill before our nest show, friday night at the comic Bug in manhattan beach with our good friends the Voyeurs.
Well, keep it real for sure,
BLF

hello friends, family, everbuddy...
here we are on our official 4th day of tour...it may be the 5th, it all depends on what you think constitutes a day. either way, we just completed our third and best show of the tour, but im getting ahead of myself. we'll begin with day one....

TUES 11/04
election day, the serious shit, a strange day to begin. we got up early, i remember it now, the excitement in the air, it was magical.  So we sat in the van for 8 solid hours or so, effectively killing off any magic involved. In portland we we warmly welcomed by the folks at the Know, drink tickets were put to full use on tasty libations and we played to almost no one. We blame Obama for stealing our thunder, but at the very least he didnt give his speach in our set. that would have just been too morch, i'd have had serious problems. We were entertained by the second (and only other) band, and at this point we met with my sister, retired to her house to drink slovak gin (delicious slovak gin) and sleep.

WED 11/5
Having rested and gotten pumped up, we were off for a short drive up to Seattle. Immediately we faced a warm welcome from our bros, the good ol boys, a band known as By Sunlight, featuring Floss "the Boss", John Connor (our only hope for the resistance) and Mark Spikes. So we pretty much tickled each other and kicked it hard, and played our show at the Funhouse. Which was totally sweet, the free PBR was as tasty as ever and the other bands (Manual Tranny) were kicking ass, and the crusty punkers didnt even spit on us. good times. we retired to our buddies house, chilled out max, relaxed all cool, had a day off in which we did nothing but drink beers and make tacos, get rested, keep our strength up. that about covers it....

FRI 11/7
we cried when we had to part with our seattle bros, and we were off to the east, Idaho. The drive was as boring as you could imagine, but when we arrived in nampa, we had no idea the bounty of  bitchin we were about to uncover. We got free coffee (bitchin), played to more people than we had cumulatively the whole tour (bitchin), and to top it off, we sold a fair amount of merch, which is so bitchin that it has never happened before. maybe once. get real, no way.
our new bro Joseph and his gracious wife Diana and St. Augustine, the dog, welcomed us in, gave us all the hardwood floor we could handle and sent us back to the flying M for free breakfast in the morn, this morn, where im also writing this blog.
thats about it, i didnt really do justice to how kickass Nampa has been to us, but our spirits are high.

Hello to anyone reading this!

First let me thank you for giving a shit.

Second, lets pull up our boot straps and get down to business. My brother the robot would say "Bring your action plans".

We were planning on going on another month long tour, and things didnt go as planned. Touring is becoming very hard for bands like us, ya know...local bands that are trying to break into the next level of the "music biz".

So things have been scaled down for the time being, and we are re-evaluating how we are gonna make our next tour happen. We had to cancel any dates outside of California, so instead of leaving town for the month of august, and bouncing around the country...we will just be making a short trip down to the southern zone of our state for a trio of shows. (A hat trick, a triple dip, long weekend, whatever you want to call it).

8/10 in Upland @ The Wire
8/11 in LA @ The Viper Room
8/12 in Anaheim @ Chain Reaction

Our new record is available now at all of our shows. You purchase a plastic credit card type download card from us, and it allows you entrance into our new website www.redhandsinholywater.com. There, you will be able to download not just our new album "Red Hands In Holy Water", but every single recording we have done. All for $5. If thats too much money for you, then eat shit. Its almost cheaper than a gallon of gas. Too bad your car doesn't run on sweet tunes.

Anyhow, we're giving you all we got, and all we want from you is a five spot.

Don't have a computer? Someone you know has one. You really should have one too, so save up your lunch money and buy one, or tell your mother/father to buy one to help you with school work.

Soon we will make it available for purchase online too. Right now, it can only be purchased at our live shows.

Thats the scoop.

Hi Reader. Friend. Family Member. Person who might dig our band.

Back in the middle of February we rented/borrowed/bought & returned a ton of recording equipment to turn the Ferro Family home into Springer Road Studios.

Our pal Sean Lynch flew out from Billings, MT to engineer and help with pre-production (and he even played on the record). Our pal John Baccigaluppi from The Hanger hooked us up with a buncha sweet gear and we made a record.

Its called "Red Hands in Holy Water" and here is the tracklisting:

The Call
Welcome to Your Doom
Norman Bates
Fire of The Vanities
The Locust
Be Still
Te Voy A Matar
Monarch
Red Hands in Holy Water
Food For The Rats

Its about 80% done in the mixing phase (also done by Sean Lynch) and then heads over to be mastered in Omaha, NE by Doug @ Focus Mastering.

We recorded this album in a somewhat unconventional manner, and decided to release the album in a somewhat unconventional manner. (Also because of finanical restraints and no record label backing at this time). More news on that very soon. CDs are soooooo 2005.

Anyhow, once we get back the mastered copy, we'll throw as many songs up for streaming as this site will let us. You can check out some live videos of most of the songs in one of our older blogs (thanks saclights.com).

Last but not least we got 2 great local shows coming up:

6/16 @ The Boardwalk in Orangevale, CA - all ages
w/The Flobot & Who Cares

7/12 @ The Blue Lamp in Sacramento, CA - 21+
w/Bridges, An Angle & one more tba (there is one more band confirmed, but I can't remember the name cause I am a bad person)

Lurve,
BLF
