Jonesy’s! Where the drinks have gone.

Hi folks,
Some of you have been lamenting the absence of our fine establishment and wondering where you can get a delicious hand crafted cocktail without the attitude. Here's one answer, Jonesy's. It's conveniently located, 20th and Logan, and there is delicious food as well! Anika can be found there starting in Sept. on Thursdays and Sunday nights and a few nights before then. Don't be strangers!

The Last Days

Many have heard the rumours and the grumblings of the end of the Pink E. As the end of June happens upon us we must pause to reassess our place and our business. We have been planning a couple of weeks off at the beginning of July. After that? Well I wouldn't call it the Pink Elephant anymore. Please come and celebrate this fateful weekend with us. Our last 2 burlesque shows are friday the 27th and Sat the 28th. Reservations are reccommended.

Burlesque Benefit Friday May 23

Burlesque As It Was in VEGAS OR BUST!: A national event benefiting The Burlesque Hall of Fame

Friday May 23 at the The Pink Elephant Room (1515 Madison, at Colfax), Burlesque As It Was is hosting a benefit for the Burlesque Hall of Fame (formerly known as the Exotic World Museum of Burlesque) as part of the nationwide fundraiser, Las Vegas or Bust!

Show starts 8-10pm with "Tips for Tassels: Gorgeous Go-Go Girls" all tips to be donated to the Burlesque Hall of Fame; followed by a very special edition of The Shimmy Shaker Show! Hosted by Big Mama Red, the show features Fannie Spankings, Ruby Derringer, Adrienne from Oracle Dance as well as troupe regulars Charlie Champale (crowned Mr. Exotic World 2007) and their fearless leader, Vivienne VaVoom,
(who is competing this year for the Miss Exotic World title).

Why a benefit for The Burlesque Hall of Fame,you might ask?

Formerly the Exotic World Museum, The Burlesque Hall of Fame is continuing the tradition started Jennie Lee (the Bazoom Girl): a museum dedicated to the art of striptease. Originally based on a goat farm in Helendale, CA, Exotic World became a repository for memorabilia of Sally Rand, Gypsy Rose Lee, Sheri Champagne and other dancers and vaudeville performers from the heyday of burlesque. Still run by the 81 year old Dixie Evans (The Marilyn Monroe of Burlesque), the museum has now moved to Sin City as is fundraising to bring it's entire collection to a permanent home.

VEGAS OR BUST! Is the first time in Exotic World history that neo-burlesque troupes and shows have combined efforts to bring the gospel of bumps and grinds to the American public. Long-outliving it's status as a "fad", burlesque has been a steady growing trend, with new burlesque troupes popping up all over the country.

And we're not just talking stripteasing of the past—as with any true burlesque show, there a gals-a-plenty shedding their feathers and rhinestones, but there is also comedy, live music, sideshow performers…there has been a revival for audiences coming out to see live performances like never before! Many of the shows on the tour feature Exotic World royalty—the Queens (and recently added, Kings) of the annual Miss Exotic World Pageant, such as Dirty Martini (2004), Michelle L'Amour (2005), Julie Atlas-Muz (2006) and (Denver's own king of boylesque) Mister Exotic World, Charlie Champale (2007) the first-ever Mr. Exotic World, the boy-lesque Tigger! (2007).

Dita von Teese has been a steady contributor to The Burlesque Hall of Fame, even inviting Dixie Evans to her opening of Crazy Horse Las Vegas.

Although burlesque is just now taking off across the country, women have been taking it off — artfully, theatrically, legally — in Denver for more than a decade. And now they have a great place to do so. The Pink Elephant Room features not only the most red-hot burlesque in the city, but also creative cocktails to pair with the tantalizing tease shows, courtesy of Anika Zappe, who spent years bartending before she got a place to call her own. Happy hour, when cocktails are discounted by two bucks, runs from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, but for some even happier hours, stick around for the Shimmy Shaker Show. Most young people don't know it, but there was a time when drinking too many cocktails made you see pink elephants. It has been well-documented in New Yorker cartoons. So here comes the Pink Elephant Room, opening tonight at 1515 Madison St., where the Normandy once dished out Frenchy food.

Anika Zappe is the brains behind this retro concept — a bar with exotic cocktails using fresh ingredients matched with a classic burlesque show. Affordable (just a $10 cover for the show), delicious, elegant, warm and mellow. Sign me up. The bar is open Thursdays-Saturdays; burlesque comes Fridays-Saturdays.

"This is really my passion," says Zappe, who is also known as Anika Cuda, of the punk rock trio Hemi Cuda. She's talking about cocktails and the burlesque, a match made in Anika Heaven.

"I just knew there was a wider audience for this," she says. "And I wanted to bring it uptown and open it up to more people."

Tonight's Shimmy Shake Show will start at 10 and feature Fannie Spankings, Midnite Martini, Vivienne Vavoom and TribalTique.

"Some striptease that's very fun and tasteful," explains Zappe. "And some comedy and some vaudeville thrown in."
