Click here to subscribe! It is once again upon us. The time of the year when getting around our hometowns becomes a chore. Crime rates will spike. Litter will amass on our streets and blow onto our lawns. Shore bars will become loud, over-crowded, hostile no-mans-lands. Socks will be worn with sandals. Spiky-haired, orange tinted creatures will roam the boardwalk cat-calling local women and picking fights with local men. It's Benny season.
The most bittersweet time to live at the Jersey Shore is summer. We have some of the most beautiful summers on the east coast, and some of the rudest, most obnoxious tourists. They're not all bad of course. Some of them are only unintentionally aggravating, attributing to immense over-crowding. Then there's the true Bennys. The ones that will stiff local waitresses on tips, urinate on people's lawns, and generally walk around like they own the place and we're all either their servants or are just in their way.
But we're tough. We're from Jersey. We don't take crap from anybody, especially not in our own homes. Benny Go Home understands the appeal of the Shore, just like any local. We live here for a reason, right? We want tourists to act like guests in someone's home. Don't be rude. Don't curse in front of the children. Garbage goes in the trash can. Don't get in the way your host's everyday life. And do not overstay your welcome. You wanna be a Benny? Go home.
To commemorate the start of the summer season, BGH is offering the Welcome to Summer Photo Contest.
Participation is free and you don't have to register for anything. Enter simply by submitting a photo with some form of the name Benny Go Home somewhere in the photo (your car, the wall, a sign, yourself, in the sand, in the sky, anywhere). It can be in the form of writing, painting, chalk, a sticker, a banner, shirt, a carving, or anything else you can think of. The submissions will be udged based on their creativity, noticeability, aesthetic, and approach.
The BGH crew will nominate four finalists to be submitted to the BGH blog for open and public voting on the winner.
Once chosen, the winner will receive their choice of three BGH t-shirts and a full assortment of BGH
stickers, the three runners up will receive the full assortment of stickers, and all contest participants will recieve a collection of free Jersey Star and Locals Unite stickers.
The Welcome to Summer Photo Contest concludes on June 30th, 2008 and the four finalists will be chosen on that day, after which public voting will commence. Please mail all photos (preferably in JPG format) to submissions@bennygohome.com with the subject line "Welcome to Summer Entry". Don't forget to include your mailing address and email address so you can be notified of what you've won. If you have any questions please write them to feedback@bennygohome.com.
It's going to be a very busy summer for Benny Go Home. There's a lot to be done to spread the message of local unity and the Pro-Shore Agenda.
