Review from Exclaim magazine
TERRORHORSE By Denise Falzon
The impression Terrorhorse leave upon first listen is a dropped jaw and a wide-eyed expression that reads "holy mega-talented unsigned band!" These London, ON guys know what they're doing when it comes to progressive death metal and they do it in a very fresh and innovative way. Their independently released EP, This Ain't No Goddamn Mirage, is comprised of five tracks of pure intensity performed with sheer brutality and incredibly tight musicianship. Opener "Rapid Eye Movement" kicks things off with fast, dynamic force and within the first five seconds displays each band member's defining talents, including Darryl Beddard's straight-up metal vocals, which are both strong and unorthodox, as well as the technical and unpredictable dual guitar shredding of Matt MacIntosh and Richard LeBlanc. Terrorhorse's skill never wavers, highlighted by the forceful "Packet Flier," which is a short, gut-wrenching number, and aptly titled final song "Heffer Exploder," which ends the EP with a bang. I'm sitting here trying to put my finger on just how to classify this Canadian metal band and it is really proving quite a task. On one hand the band is seemingly metalcore influenced yet then there is a death metal side to the band as well as an experimental side. The five songs on display here are all quite different but each has a tremendous amount of energy and a sense of urgency rarely seen in an unsigned band. What first really stands out about this album is just how damn good the songwriting is. There is no doubt that the band is technical as evidenced by the more note heavy riffs and the sweep picking sections. But to counterbalance those sections the band has some awesome stripped down sections and some riffs that are downright rocking at times. The band also uses some excellent rythmic riffs throughout the album. The leadoff track utlizes it the most I'd say and shows off an excellent use of dissonance as well. The start and stop rhythms are extremely catchy and incredibly tight. The band isn't entirely fast but if you are looking for speed the song Packet Flier definitely provides it. The song starts off with an almost Agoraphobic Nosebleed sounding grind section before heading into a dizzying sweep picking section followed by an excellent groove riff. I could pretty much go into detail with each track like an excited school girl but I'd say that these 5 songs are best heard rather than be described by me. This is one of those times when an unsigned band really reignites my excitement for music. Call me jaded, or possibly just call me bored but music right now is just coasting along to me. This is a band that plays with a lot of fire, has songwriting chops to spare and isn't interesting in playing the same tired cliches so prevalent right now. Fans of everything from Converge to Messhugah to See You Next Tuesday need to check out this band ASAP. "Terrorhorse eats roads"
"The Gate is heavier than nine rhino tits"
"You guys make me want to blow up 5 banks and 2 grocery stores"

Terrorhorse .. Studio BLR, Toronto ON January 24 .. By Denise Falzon
But it was London’s Terrorhorse that shared the main spotlight with Battlesoul. The band’s power was undeniable with their progressive style mixed with death metal elements and intricate playing. They began their set with “Rapid Eye Movement,” a fast and incredibly strong tune in all aspects of guitar work, drumming, and vocals. Terrorhorse’s intense energy was a constant throughout their six-song set, which included “The Gate,” “Packet Flier” and ending it with the incendiary “Heffer Exploder.”

Fri, Dec. 5th: I walk over from work to sit through a few shitty bands, then finally see Terrorhorse. Wow. Honestly, that show was awesome, the harmonized tapping was awesome, the tone (considering the venue) was great, the soundscapes were very cool, and all of the players are insane! I'll be the first to admit I'm not a "metal" person. For me to listen to metal, it usually requires some degree of layering/complexity (Opeth, Porcupine Tree etc.) and these guy's deliver that sheer amount of technicallity with precision and skill, and do so with an unparalleled amount of energy. I'm huge into the tapping thing myself, and most people I've seen play at that level lack of the energy Terrorhorse has. But the best part, is that past the high-energy driven complexity of Terrorhorse, at its core is a brutal and sweeping musicallity, a beautifully perverse blend of natural passion and bone crushing sound, personified by the ethreal soundscape underlying the performance. Remotely close to southwestern Ontario? Get yourself out to the next Terrorhorse show!"
