This video is why I support Jason's Law HR2156 because I do not want this to be my loved one and be in Hope's shoes. Since all of this started most of you know that me and Hope talk on the phone pretty much on a daily basis. We spoke briefly earlier and I could hear the tears still in her voice. As much as we have talk I can tell when she has been crying. I do not want to see another family go through the hell and torment that this lady has gone through and is going through. It was a senseless killing that did not have to be this way but no place to park in Virginia thanks to the parking ban and Food Lion where Jason was delivering milk, this is how it ended. Three kids with no Daddy and a young widow struggling to make it on her own. Jason's pick up truck still parked in the driveway and clothing still in the closet. The last phone conversation Jason had was with his friend, Jerry and the last words while cleaning the dash in his truck "OH MY GOD" shot fire, shot fired, shot fired. I hope you all support Jason's Law and will encourage others to do so. If you have not gotten on board already please do so cause you never know one day the headlines may be talking about you. If not you may find yourself of loved ones in the situation Hope is in end end telling their son "Daddy is not coming home" for me it's hard enough explaining that Daddy will be home in a week or whenever I couldn't imagine trying to explain that Daddy is an Angel helping out and watching you from above. So the next time you cannot find a place to park call your state representatives and tell them "There is no place to park and I SUPPORT JASON'S LAW and you should too!!!" This is the video from the court house today in Calhoun County, SC for the murder of truck driver, Jason Rivenburg. Video news link

God grant me the
serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day
at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.
On Monday the murder trial begins for the truck driver that was murdered in March of this year, Jason Rivenburg. Jason was not just a "truck driver" but a family man like most of you reading this, he had a wife expecting twins any day and a 2 year old son waiting on him to return safely at home but never did.
Jason's life ended prematurely as he was on the phone with one of his friends and cleaning the dashboard in his truck waiting to get the load of organic milk unloaded at an abandoned gas station that was frequented by other truckers. Interstate 26 at exit 136 in Calhoun County, South Carolina. Willie Pelzer, age 21 at the time was already on probation for grand theft larceny when the trigger was pulled to end and rob Jason of $7.00, the murderer was so smart he left a couple hundreds bucks, credit cards and fuel cards in Jason's pants pocket. Then tried to hide the weapon with Jimmy Haygood who called the police the day before Jason was found to report the .45 cal gun stolen. The next day someone who passed by twice alerted authorities because they passed by twice and noticed the truck's interior light was on. Authories arrived found Jason along with .45 cal shell casings on the ground. The gun belonged to their friend Willie Reed who is being charged with Accesory, Jimmy Haygood it charged with the same thing. The Rivenburg family has since started Jason's Law im hopes to keep other drivers safe, even if it saves one life it is worth it. Something needs to be done and now. We all keep saying that and instead of wasting your breath talking about it, contact your state representatives and tell them how you feel. Tell them about your truck parking experiences and anything else that will stick in their mind. Let them know you do not want to leave your family behind because there is NO safe place to park. At the the begining of the month a KLLM driver was killed in the town he lives in while waiting to unload, he was shot in the back. Several other drivers were killed the past few months as well while doing their jobs.
I ask everyone to contact the state representatives whether you drive or not, call them, it's not even a task you have to get off your butt to do. If you do not know how to do it I will write the letter for you, look up the phone numbers for you reps just send me your zip code.
The next week while the trial is going on please keep Hope and her family in your thoughts and prayers as they seek answers to their questions and find out things they probably do not even want to know in the last minutes of Jason's life. I speak to Hope on a regular basis, although I have never met her I still feel closer to her than most of the family members in my life. I have never been through what she is going through but I hear the tears in her voice, the fear and emotional pain she is going through. I will do everything in my power to help her in anyway that I can. I know things about the murder that I will not repeat and cannot because it truly breaks my heart. Next week while the trial is going on I will keep everyone updated on the things that I can as Hope calls me, but I will not call because she needs her space. I am nervous for her and cannot imagine what she is going through. I hope everything goes well and justice will be served. Justice for Jason!
Danielle

program to allocate funds to states, metropolitan planning
organizations, and local governments that submit an application
approved by the Secretary for eligible projects to establish long-term
parking facilities for commercial motor vehicles (trucks) on the
National Highway System; and (2) give priority to applicants that

proposed projects are likely to have positive effects on highway
safety, traffic congestion, or air quality.

Police
officials have released the name of the slain trucker who was found
fatally shot while parked at a dirt lot in Moreno Valley, CA.
Albert
Thomas, a 56-year-old driver for KLLM Transport Services, was found
dead in his truck a few hours after he failed to show up at his 7 a.m.
scheduled delivery time at a Moreno Valley grocery store. Police said
he was shot in the back multiple times and was found in his sleeper.
Thomas,
who also lived in Moreno Valley, had parked his truck at a dirt lot in
Moreno Valley. Moreno Valley Police Sgt. Jamie Briones said it is
common for truckers to park there “for overnight stays.”
Briones
also confirmed that the city of Moreno Valley has an ordinance that
prohibits truckers from parking at their residences, which could
explain why he was parked at the lot where he was found.
“Truckers cannot park their rigs in neighborhoods,” Briones told Land Line on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
At
this time, Briones said the department still has no leads, but added
there’s evidence that “some things” were taken from Thomas’ cab, but
not from the load itself.
The Owner-Operator Independent
Drivers Association has been fighting for more truck parking for all
professional drivers as more states close down rest areas because of
budget problems and other municipalities pass ordinances restricting
trucks from city limits.
OOIDA Regulatory Affairs Specialist
Joe Rajkovacz said this latest tragedy highlights the dilemma that many
truckers face. They can’t park their trucks at home, so they stay with
their loads and sometimes become victims of violent crimes.
“This
latest tragedy once again underscores the need to develop meaningful
solutions to provide secure truck parking, which is in short supply
across the country,” Rajkovacz said.
OOIDA has been urging its members to contact their lawmakers regarding two bills, HR2156 and S971,
titled “Jason’s Law” bills. The bills seek $120 million spread over
five years for more safe parking options. The bills are named for
trucker Jason Rivenburg, who was fatally shot in his rig while parked
at an abandoned gas station in South Carolina.

not know that is also battling cancer. A fellow driver posted a
bulletin and I just had to click it. Out of all the thousands of
bulletins everyone posted I clicked theirs. Thanks 'Dispatcher' A
little 5 year old was diagnosed with cancer at age 3. His parents do
not expect him to last until Christmas so they are celebrating
Christmas early. If anyone out there could stop and get him a post card
or Christmas card I'm sure he would enjoy it. Yall know how boys and
big trucks are! Or even send him a picture of your truck? Let him know
you drive a truck, most kids love stuff like that and wanna know how
things work. This story kind of reminds me of "Teddy Bear" by Red Sovine. www...driversalike...net Danielle

News http:../../..www...mlive...com/..news/..detroit/..index...ssf/..2009/..11/..thousands_..send_..early_..christmas.html Five-year-old Noah Biorkman of South Lyon will celebrate Christmas early this year.
His
parents, Diana and Scott, wanted to make sure he would see the holiday
one last time before cancer claims his life. They'll have their own
Christmas this weekend.
Noah was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 2007, when he was 3 years old.
He went into remission, but then relapsed in September 2008. His family is not expecting him to make it to Christmas Day.
The
media caught wind of the story and now thousands of people from across
the country and around the world have sent Noah gifts and cards.
An
entry on the Web site Reddit asking for people to send cards is at the
top of the list on AskReddit today, with 1,723 votes and 840 comments.
The
movement also has a Facebook invitation page with more than 10,000
confirmed guests and wall posts from people in Finland, Sweden, England
and Canada.
You can send cards or gifts directly to the family's home at 1141 Fountain View Circle, South Lyon, MI 48178.
You can also send them through Metro Detroit country radio station WYCD.
The family is asking people not to stop by their home.
Local NBC news station WDIV did a video report on Noah's Christmas, which you can watch here: WDIV video.
When Noah opens an angel Christmas tree ornament, the reporter asks him what it means to him.
"I'm going to heaven," Noah responds. "I'm going to be an angel."

Last Saturday we lost my Husband's Dad from a long battle of cancer. I would like to thank everyone for the kind words and condolences in our time of loss.
Everything went as expected with the service and burial. On the day we were taking the trip to the grave yard I noticed a man cutting his grass on a tractor. He stopped, shut his tractor off. turned the lights on and placed his hat over his heart. On that day not one car passed the funeral, everyone pulled totally off the road with lights off and let us pass in peace. I wish all funeral services went this way and the world had have the respect that these people showed our family. I really appreciate you guys and gals more than anything in this world. Thanks a lot and if you need anything I will do my best to help.

Nashville seeks ban on commercial vehicles from local streets
|
Two council members of the Metropolitan Traffic and Parking
Commission are trying to pass a bill that would ban commercial vehicles
from local streets in Nashville, TN.
Council members Bruce
Stanley and Sam Coleman introduced a bill July 7, which would make it
illegal for commercial trucks to be on local roads unless they were
picking up or delivering in an effort to cut down on truck traffic and
parking on local streets.
“Huge rigs come up and down neighborhoods and do a lot of damage,” Coleman told the traffic board a month ago, according to The Tennessean newspaper.
However,
after reviewing the ordinance, the city’s traffic engineering staff
said they wouldn’t support the proposed ordinance as written because it
“could be challenged legally and would be difficult to enforce.”
The
staff’s recommendation was to instead “investigate truck prohibitions
on a case-by-case basis” instead of using a blanket prohibition to ban
trucks from local streets.
The commission plans to meet again on the proposed ordinance at 3 p.m., Monday, Sept. 14, at the Metro Southeast Complex in Nashville.
The
commission needs to hear from truckers about how this proposed
ordinance could affect their livelihoods if they can’t drive or park on
the streets they pay for with their tax dollars.
Comments can be e-mailed to the entire metro council using the drop-down menu on the Council Member Feedback Form.
I contacted them and one member demanded an apology, I probably shouldn't have said what I said but to put a ban up call because it causes damage? Seriously get over yourself.

Jason's Law website visit http://www.jhlrivenburg.com http://www.congress.org/congressorg/directory/congdir.tt Congressional Directory to contact about Jason's Law just add your zip code Just call this number 202-456-1111 and 202-456-1414 to tell them u support Jason's Law, if we want to get things done now is the time! It doesn't even matter if you are involved in trucking or not just call, you have a voice so use it before a tragedy like this hits close to home. Together we can make a difference. Please do not just sit around sayin "Something needs to be done" cause YOU can make a difference with just one phone call or letter. Who is Jason Rivenburg?Jason Rivenburg was a truck driver who's life was taken too soon by 3 men that shot him while he was waiting in an abandon gas station to make his delivery. At the time his wife was pregnant with twins ans his son was just about to turn 2 years old. What is Jason's Law???? http://www.jhlrivenburg.com/About.htm It is a potential law to address the ongoing and
escalating problems with truck driver safety and security. In the last month
we have been doing a great deal of research into the problems of trucker
safety. The following is a list of current problems, suggested solutions,
and side benefits if these solutions were to be adopted.
1) On time supply is a common business practice
used by most large corporations today. It lowers operating expenses
because inventories are reduced. This business model can only be
successful if goods can be shipped and delivered exactly when they
are needed; therefore, most pick-ups and deliveries are made by
appointment. However, virtually all shippers and receivers will only
allow common carriers into their facilities long enough to load or
unload. Truck drivers, on the other hand, must allow for
circumstances such as traffic, equipment failure, weigh stations,
and delays being loaded or unloaded that may delay them. Often they
reach their destination early. Because they are not allowed into the
facility until the appointed hour, they must find somewhere to
“stage.” (This is exactly what Jason was doing when he was shot.) We
have also heard many stories about drivers being “put out” of
facilities (often by the police) when they have exceeded their hours
of service and can no longer legally drive.
If shippers and receivers were required to let
drivers stage inside their facilities up to twelve hours before
and/or after their appointment in order for them to drive legally,
this would not only give drivers a safe harbor, but it could take a
percentage of the trucks out of the rush hour traffic and off
secondary streets. Many companies do this for their own drivers.
2) For businesses that lack the required space or
facilities for these drivers, the “bull pen” concept can be applied.
An area off the highway but close to an industrial or warehouse area
that is secure and has basic amenities where
trucks can stage to wait to deliver or pick up a load. This could be
paid for either by an association of the area businesses or a
dedicated tax based on the number of docking doors a business has.
3) Rest areas seem to be where most of the focus
currently rests. We have included California’s Safety Roadside Rest
Area System Master Plan. It is, as far as we can tell, the most
comprehensive plan in the country.
The simple truth is rest areas safe lives. The
National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) estimates
that:
· The absence of rest areas increases
shoulder related accidents due to parked vehicles on the
side of the road by 52%
· Reducing driver fatigue accounted for a
3.7% reduction in accident rates.
· Motorist’s use of rest areas reduced
accidents by 3.7% representing a benefit to society of 148
million dollars.
In an article titled, A Safe Place to Rest,” by Maria
Koklanaris (enclosed) it is reported that 80% of the drivers surveyed
reported that they were always or often unable to find a parking space in a
public rest area at night. When rest areas are full, people (not just truck
drivers) either drive drowsy or park where they’re in danger. Either way,
everyone suffers.
The commonly accepted distance between rest areas (for
the maximum affect) is thirty minutes of driving time.
There is and has been Title 23 money for up to 100% of
the cost of rest stops! However, truck stop owners and other businesses that
cater to the traveling public mistakenly see rest areas as competition. Also
the non-traveling public doesn’t view rest areas as a high priority.
There is a building consensus that the federal government
should allow states to take on commercial partners to develop rest areas.
This makes a lot of sense in this economy.
4) Another misconception is that on highway
(public) and off highway (private truck stop) parking is
interchangeable. This is only slightly true. Most drivers we talk to
will go to a truck stop to get fuel, a hot meal and a shower and
then they look for a “quiet” place to rest, usually a rest area. If
not a rest area, they find a place anywhere close to the highway so
they can maximize the next day’s eleven hour driving time
regulation. Also, virtually every truck stop has become a hot bed of
activity for prostitutes, drug dealers and common thieves selling
stolen goods.
Hours of service rules were developed with the
expectation that a driver will be rested and ready to drive for the next
eleven hours. That’s not likely in most truck stops.
A revolving loan fund can be set up for truck
stop owners to upgrade security, install cameras and lighting,
increase parking spaces, etc.
5) Businesses can also partner with their state’s
department of transportation to provide auxiliary lots. These would
be located less than on-half mile from the highway, be secure, and
maintained by the businesses. These would take some pressure off the
rest areas.
6) Another approach that is relatively cheap and
could be implemented quickly would be to develop signage to direct
truckers to off highway parking. Here distance is key. At $2.00 plus
per mile in operating expenses, drivers won’t go far off route to
park.
In summary, everything we do to help truck drivers do their jobs helps us
all. Providing truckers with safe places to rest on or near the highways
keeps everyone safer. Giving them a place at or near their destination to
wait makes our mad dash to work safer. Our economy and our lifestyles depend
on moving products from their source to market and you can’t do that without
a truck. More than that, they pay more taxes than any other profession.
