@ third week in chelsea: "I'll
be honest that I really don't have much to tell you about the band
Saudade other than they've released their entire new album of droning
freakouts meets Revolution 9 sound collage, ominously titled The Hooded
Ones, for free on their blog. Well, that's actually a lie, I actually
do know that they're from Portland, Oregon, but that's just garnered
from a fleeting glance at the myspace page. Anyways, I can't say I've
really spun this record enough to pass total judgement on it but so far
it's been keeping me entertained on repeat for over two hours & I
can't tell where one kaleidoscoping collage starts and where the next
ends or vice versa which is I think how that's supposed to be phrased
but ah what the hell. Anyways, go download the album & let it lull
you past the brink of sanity (I'd hate to advocate that but it's worked
for me)."
@ foxy digitalis: "This disc is pretty good, but I wouldn’t call it the most
original thing I have ever heard. From what little info I was able to
gather on this CDR (which is now available as a cassette from Peasant
Magik unless that too has gone out of print) this is Saudade’s first
release. The sound is an amalgamation of styles that remind me heavily
of earlier Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, and a dash of Mice
Parade which are all among the better “pop” groups to come out in the
past few years. The thing that strikes me about this disc is that while
all of the individual tracks demonstrate some pretty strong songwriting
and arranging skills (a few of these have really managed to get stuck
in my head lately), on a whole the album seems almost like some really
awesome mix tape containing a bunch of different bands rather than a
cohesive work from an artist with a unique voice of his own. This is
however a first release, and given that, I am sure this is someone that
we are very likely to hear some really good things from in the future
once this sound is more developed. This is a really good CDR/cassette
considering that both of these are formats somewhat meant for limited
consumption and impermanency, but I think the next one is going to be a
little more on the mark. 7/10 -- Kevin Richards (17 March, 2009)"
@ nine37: "They take the listener on guided journey through their emotional and mental response to the world with songs that range between lush ambiance and ecstatic noise. Their live show is like watching a hurricane, from the calm water pulling away from shore to the trees hurtling through subdivisions."
@ just press play: "we describe it as fucking mint."
@ casioheart: "reminds me of the most blissful moments of Yellow Swans, early Liars, but also sounds like nothing else. Make sure to download their newer tracks also!"
also @ 33/45, etc.

So yesterday we finished a pressing of 50 copies of our first album "The Hooded Ones".
It looks fucking great and sounds amazing.
This could not have been possible without the following people.
A large note of thanks to Rick for hooking us up with the computer software, printmaking kit and generally letting us overrun his home.
Kim's dedication and her beautiful artwork really make the album look as powerful as it sounds.
Mikey helped out alot in the burning stage and gave us alot of good feedback.
Mike Cantino was a workhorse. He ran alot of errands, helped number CD's and also ate a burrito with me.
Thanks to Matt (Ganson Place) for letting us overrun his house.
Thanks again fools,
Jas / Chris
