Hey Ya'll, I just found out I'm in a radio contest that starts today! This is a legit contest run by Radio Crystal Blue, an internet radio station that runs out of Brooklyn and has been spinning my tunes for a while now. I am in BRACKET 8 and EACH COMPUTER is allowed 1 VOTE PER DAY so if you could please go vote right now and EVERY DAY til April 23rd, I'm pretty sure I can win this thing!

To VOTE just go to this link:
http://pub36.bravenet.com/vote/vote.php?usernum=3071115404

scroll down to Bracket 8 and click on my "Flo Anito" radio button, then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "Submit Vote". If you want to see how many votes everyone's collected, that screen should come up after you vote.

You are welcome to check out the atists in the other brackets as well and vote for them but if you're short on time, i would REALLY appreciate you just checking in on the site EACH DAY when you're at work/home/school to vote for me as many times as you can. If you have a computer at home and at work, you can vote twice a day! I promise this takes about 3 seconds.

Thanks so much y Ciao,
Flo

No Dustbunnies
Flo Anito

Let's get this out right off the bat; I am a Flo Anito fan. I have been anxiously awaiting this album for almost two years now. With that in mind, throughout that time I have had very high expectations for it. What I hoped this CD would capture is at the same time what I feared it never would, the wit and innocence of Flo's voice, through her music.

I have not been disappointed.

No Dustbunnies comes barreling out of the gate with the radio ready "Man of the Year". Caught off guard with the simplicity of the first verse, Brian Jones opens up his drums, taking the music to a new level all together. It is hard to make it through this song without exclaiming Flo Anito has arrived!

Flo has managed to create a variant of pop on this album that I am affectionately naming "Sugar Pop". Chris Keup and Stewart Myers have done an exceptional job at taking Anito's sweet sounding "Pop" and giving her a sharpened "Rock" edge, leaving the songs dynamic and versatile.

Stand out tracks include the aforementioned "Man of the Year", a top 40 hit in any listener's ears. "Change My Life", borrowing notes from The Fray, creating a piano based ballad about growth, integration and moving in a new direction. "No Good", a song about un-reciprocated love with a chorus that I still find myself singing and finally, "No Dustbunnies" a song that showcases Flo's creative lyric writing, painting a world where Beaver Cleaver still roams the streets – a place where Flo longs to be, tongue firmly planted in cheek.

You can pick up the CD at – www. cdbaby. com/floanito – you will not be disappointed.

Live Music Performed In Adams Morgan For Great Cause

Cristina Flagg, DC Scene Contributor

There's something special going on in Adams Morgan. Every Friday night, for a suggested donation of $10 you can hear live local musicians and support great local charities.

The Potter's House, self-touted as "Washington's Original Coffee House Established in 1960," is a unique local restaurant, bookstore and art gallery that hosts the "Sounds of Hope" benefit concert every Friday night.

On June 8, local singer-songwriter Tom Goss will be hosting an evening of music to raise money for Charlie's Place, a breakfast program for the homeless in Dupont run by St. Margaret's Episcopal Church. Goss is the program manager at Charlie's Place, having worked there for six months, and is there every Tuesday through Friday at 6:30 a.m. when they open their doors to the approximately 60 clients who show up daily.

Charlie's Place not only provides breakfast four days a week, a much needed service in the Dupont area, but also has a clothes closet and nurse two days a week as well as mail services and barbering services for its clients.

"Our main mission is the feeding program, to provide a place where people can come and get breakfast, but it's hard for socially minded people to just feed breakfast and stop there," Goss said.

Goss attributes the uniquely laid-back and peaceful atmosphere of Charlie's Place to the small size of the program, the respect that the clients have for one another, and the attitude of the staff toward the clients. "I personally make a point to be very respectful to the clients. Yeah, I'm the one who's the boss, but I understand that compromise is the way to get things done. You need to treat people with dignity."

Charlie's Place is named after the late St. Margaret's associate pastor Charlie Gilchrist, who founded the program in 1990. "He just wanted to give cereal to the guys sleeping on the front steps, and it's grown into this." Goss explains that Charlie's Place fills a much-needed niche in the area. "St. Matthew's Cathedral feeds breakfast on Mondays, but in the western half of Ward 2 there isn't really a daily breakfast program."

As is the case for most non-profit organizations, staying within budget and finding new ways to fundraise is always a concern for Goss. He writes grants and maintains relationships with organizations such as the Help The Homeless Walk-a-thon, from whom they receive much of their funding for the year.

Given Goss's passion for music and performing, doing a benefit concert for Charlie's Place at The Potter's House was a natural fit. Goss used to work at Christ House, an organization that provides health care for homeless men and women just across the street from Potter's House.

"Someone told me they played music over there, so I walked over there and asked who did the booking, and started talking to her. I went to a few open mics and she liked my stuff. We booked a date and played a show. The shows have always been very successful," Goss said.

That was a few years ago, and since then Potter's House has been hosting local musicians and raising thousands of dollars for charity in the heart of a D.C. neighborhood better known for its late-night antics and drunken altercations.

Goss sees potential in the Adams Morgan crowd. "A lot of people come to do fun things in Adams Morgan, and don't really worry about what's going on around them. Potter's House provides an opportunity to do those same fun things for a great cause" said Goss.

On June 8, five musicians, including Goss, will play at Potter's House to support Charlie's Place: Taylor Carson, Bobby T, Flo Anito and Hilary Morgan. Goss does bookings for showcases in the city, and these are a handful of his favorite musicians.

"The musicians are donating their time to Charlie's Place. They're being very gracious. I can't speak highly enough about the performers, their music, their persona. They're good people to know about in the city."

Each performer will do a 30-minute set, so the night will move quickly. Potter's House also serves home-cooked style dinner and desserts before the show.

so i just got a disposable camera developed which is always an adventure cuz i take about 2 pictures a month so ya never know what's gonna be on the film.and this one turned out to be quite giggle-worthy if i do say so myself... maybe tomorrow i'll post a couple of these pics but for now i'll just say they were from fight night. does anyone know what this is?

i didn't... but deirdre and i decided to dress up and  go meet her friend who was working there anyway. the night got off to a rough start, we were lost on opposite corners of farragut square, using stopped busses as landmarks. apparently there are a lot of stopped busses there...20 minutes later we started yelling and found eachother... things were looking up. the only problem was that when we got to the ritz, they wouldn't let us downstairs to the open bar and free food. (clarification they were serving hotdogs -  yes hotdogs at the ritz - i think they coulda spared a couple but hey it's cool, i get it...).

anyway, the guards at the stairs were super serious about us not having admission bracelets so we were sad for about a minute when suddenly it occured to me that hotels have to be handicap friendly and there must be an elevator somewhere... and feeling very savvy, we not only found the elevator but got ourselves into it without anyone noticing. little did we know it would take us to the underground world of dc socialites! now i didn't even know dc had socialites but suddenly we were surrounded by strange girls in sequince dresses - people still wear sequince? and odd older men offering wine and bmi connections. pretty hot... one such group of men told me they had just seen evander holyfield so i told them i'd seen mike tyson and that he looked hungry. they started looking around for him but when i added "for ear", i guess they figured out i was joking. and i figured out they'd been serious. oops...

but anyway, i ran away from them and deirdre spotted mc hammer so we went over and got our picture taken with him but i felt bad cuz people kept grabbing him and making him pose for pictures without asking so i went back over and told him i was sorry that people were doing that but he wasn't very friendly so that was the extent of my hammertime. whatever. needless to say, in the pic, he looks ecstatic so that was kind of ironic... all in all, the whole night was pretty hilarious, thanks to our beloved elevator. i think i'm gonna list it in my thanks section of the EP, right next to burt's bees chapstick and you. besos, flo
