Paindivision would like to announce some changes in the band and first, the departure of Mark Hobson. Mark has chosen to pursue his musical career further overseas in Finland. Mark will be missed from band and we wish him all the best for the future.

From Mark " Moving overseas before 2010 is a personal goal which I set myself in 2008. It’s been an adventure being a part of Paindivision. Though, I am now set on my new journey to pursue my career overseas, I will always be a fan and a promoter for the music of the band. I wish the boys the best of luck for the future, and intend to help the “Pain” storm Europe.”

His permanent replacement will be Ben Thomas, who previously played guitar in Sydney based band Thundasteel and also made a guest appearance on the album "Empires of Eden - Songs of War and Vengeance". As one of Stu's guitar students, Ben has brought a devastating technique that will add to the bands dual shredding capabilities. We welcome him to the band and the busy year ahead.

From Ben" I am honoured to be involved with such a world-class act like Paindivision and really look forward to the upcoming shows and what is to come. I wish Mark all the success for his future"

Ben's live performance debut with the band will be headlining the "Onslaught of Sound" fest in Canberra on September 26th. This show will be captured on video for a future DVD release. The show also features Sydney thrashers "Switchblade" and a host of the countries emerging metal acts.
In other news, Dan Quinlan has taken on the role of playing bass in death metal act “The Amenta”.This role will work along side Dan’s singing/bass role in Paindivision while keeping the “Pain” a priority. A few of the guys complete side projects such as Stu Marshall’s “Empires of Eden” and Ben Thomas in “Skank”.

Writing has commenced on the follow-up to 2008's album "One Path" and will showcase for the first time on cd, the extraordinary drumming talent of Peter Hunt (Ex-Dragonforce and Marshall Law). Pete has just finished up a touring stint drumming for Iron Maiden legend Paul Dianno.

"One Path" Release by RIOT in 2008, received reviews with scores of 9/10 from metalobsession.net and 8/10 from metalforge.com, Including a Japanese signing and release in early 2009. The upcoming and as yet untitled cd is set to deliver a more technical and brutal side to the bands sound."

EMPIRES OF EDEN

Songs Of War And Vengeance – a powerful new force in shredding melodic metal.

Drawing on classic influences such as Helloween, Ayreon and Iron Maiden, the new project Empires of Eden is a must-hear for fans of melodic heavy metal. While many albums bathe in the hype of greatness, yet fail to deliver the goods, Empires delivers 11 tracks of pure symphonic mayhem with irrepressible hooks and jaw-dropping performances. The monstrous production by Dan Quinlan (Deicide/Suffocation tour sound Australia) and stunning artwork by Oliver Lehmann combine to create a history-making metal masterpiece.

Empires of Eden showcases an incredibly diverse collection of talent from some of metal’s finest performers. Created by guitarist Stu Marshall (Paindivision/ex-Dungeon) the epic is built on the foundations of Marshall’s music while providing a vehicle for three magnificent metal voices. Louie Gorgievski (Crimsonfire), Mike Zoias (ex-Transcending Mortality) and Chris Ninni (Sydney session vocalist) have been given free reign to bring their own power, influence and flavour to the project by writing their own melodies and lyrics.

"See the video of Louie in the studio here!"

Originally, more than 20 songs were composed for the project. Of these, 11 have been chosen as the absolute A-list, ensuring a compelling listen from the first to the last. One of the standout features of the album is the monolithic ‘Black Endings/Echoes Of Oblivion, a nine-minute, orchestrally-based spoken word epic. Detailing the final days of the world and the rebirth of the human spirit, the piece will place the listener into an atomic wasteland with cinematic clarity and is narrated by acclaimed author Gun Arvidssen.

Soaring vocals and shredding guitars, enhanced by the imposing presence of a 30-piece orchestra, mark Empires as the premier, refreshing, uncompromising release of 2009. The songwriting is second to none, and draws on nothing short of the best talent from many sources in the metal community.

Songs Of War And Vengeance features performances by members of Vanishing Point, Dungeon, LORD, Thundasteel, Cerbeus (Japan) and Argument Soul (Japan), rounding out the global standard of musicianship to be found on this remarkable album. With a project as ambitious as accomplished as this, there is no doubt we are witnessing the birth of a new era in metal.

Hey Guys,

It's been a while since our last update but things have been busy as hell.
Since the death Angel / Armored Saint show, Mark has headed over to Finland for 5 weeks and is handling some business while having a great time, he arrives back the night before the May 2nd show, so it's on a tight schedule.

A special thanks to Aaron Murphy who handled vocals at the last minute for the recent show, we thought he really smashed it given the short notice and thanks to everyone for the great comments that were sent in. Dan Quinlan will be handling all vocals for Paindivision and we look forward to his thunderous debut at the Gaelic on the 2nd of May.

This week I begin mixing the "Empires of Eden" album with bass player, "Dan Quinlan", this album has turned out far above my expectation and has been just the easiest and most fun I have ever had.

Check it here and add yourself as a member, (There's free merch in it for you)
www.empiresofeden.com

The Pain! will be back in the studio in June to begin writing the new album and I can see the new album being ready before the end of the year - There's alot of exciting developments coming up but as always, we will keep it all until it's locked and loaded.

Check out the next Issue of Guitarist Australia Magazine for more instructional videos.

More as it happens.
Stu.

Current mood:  jubilant

Paindivision is one of Australia’s most renowned acts and with the release of their new album One Path, Paindivision’s flag is sure to be raised even higher. Now I must admit that I didn’t really get into their debut, but One Path is a step in the right direction. Hard hitting, unadulterated, no bullshit Metal that is almost timeless in its delivery, Paindivision has made a kickasre Metal album that is sure to make your ears bleed in HeavyMetal heaven. Wicked cover the classic Accept song Balls To The Wall, and a live track of Unchain Me recorded in Japan. You want be able to get enough of Paindivision’s One Path.

Score: 85/100

It is great to see APRA getting behind Aussie metal. So get out there and show your support as well, wether it's for Paindivision or a bunch of local lads belting out some metal at the local pub, We're all on the same side.
