Ok, here's why we decided to do this...

Sizing can be so arbitrary and inconsisitent. One usually cannot rely on what the tag says. Also, some people apply value judgements to acending numbers, though measurements are definitely helpful. And so, here we have, the Fat Fancy Sizing System!
