some strange person is calling you their own...
Thursday, August 13, 2009
Having performed near every sunday now for much of the last year, supporting Mike Dees’ songwriters’ night, I have been able to spend some enjoyable evenings playing songs and meeting fellow artists...as the times continue to make things financially difficult on the small business owner, I would like to commend frank james on his stedfast support of the community of local artists and commitment to original music... In the spirit of helping those who help others, Id like to encourage every music lover and java slammer to pay The Edge (Overton Park and Watkins) a visit, drink some coffee and relax in a casual environment no far off the beaten path in midtown...in an effort to drum up some business, Lee of SIMON, my friend and drummer Jason Vawter, and I have decided to host a series of invitational memphis songwriter showcases Sunday afternoons 5pm til 9pm, featuring a few familiar faces and weekly special guests...come join us kill some weekend hours early enough to still get a night’s sleep before the Monday grind...this will segue into the open songwriters’ night at 9pm Sunday night performances will be webcast @ http://memphisedge.tv/ for those who cant make it to the Edge, and each Sunday’s performance will be archived on the site for you all to be able to catch up later... hoping to see you! thx j

on the path to nowhere
'half way there'... i cried
though no was around me...to hear

silver threads of memory
swirling droplets of truth
fall like rain
and take me to task

this is the best part
waste your time with me
and remember
you dont have to ask

the pain has set me off
the laughter sends me back
i'm out of hand...have i gone too far?

silver threads of memory
swirling droplets of truth
fall like rain
and take me to task

the sage does now
what the fool does last
so remember
you dont have to ask

this is the best part
waste your time with me
remember
you dont have to ask

RIP Jay.

Remember musicians dont really die though. Everytime someone discovers the masterpieces that are yankee hotel foxtrot and summerteeth, jay bennett will be alive. It just sucks that he couldnt make it through this rough patch hes been in of late...savor the days as they fly away from us all..

Nice to be back home after spending some time on the road...multiple thanks must be extended to Stereofidelics, Jeff Ruby, Time Warp Tearoom, The Acoustic Coffeehouse, Preservation Pub, Vinegar Creek Constituency, Shannon Cain...

I managed to not murder my drummer after some many miles driven...a pleasant trip...

She might be almost out of my system, but i have had to recalculate revise and revisit because of the lingering doubt

--------------------------------------------------------------

-Disappearing ink-

shes wheatstraw and lightning

cherry blossoms on the breeze

these confessions im jotting

are written...in disappearing ink

wish i could say it better...wish i could sing it

walking the delicate shadows of she

these words will rescue me

shes gunsmoke on the breeze

when brown eyes meet blue

im multiple vantage points

shes vaules, contrast and hues

im breaking diamonds

with the mess this leaves behind

walking the delicate shadows of she

these words will rescue

she's sketch, a pose, and colors

composition and flow

im notes on a subject

transposition, revision, and prose

wish i could say it better...wish she would see

walking the delicate shadows of she

these words will rescue me

trying to capture a moment

capture a moment

reliving for a moment

a moment...thats never come

some interesting highlights...

terrific scenery, hard to believe Memphis is in tennessee...the full 20 minute version of Inna Gadda Da Vida flying 80 MPH down a hill in the Smokeys...graduation parties in every college town we find (never heard so much Amos Lee, God no...)...

i have seen every species of roadkill, including half of a deer, hanging from an 18 wheeler, the random armadillo, and of course, drunk college girls...

witnessed a large helicopter painted much like the Yellow submarine in the middle of a soybean field in middle TN...

a strange random phone call from an ex (actually this happened a couple of times somehow, what is the plural for ex?) asking marital advice...should not have happened when jack daniels was so near...

the sweet lingering feeling of being eaten from the inside by a properly cooked German meal:  http://www.eatbrats.com/ in johnson city TN   wow, why would have thought...plus served the only local brew i could find...awesome!! http://www.depotstreetbrewing.com/beers.html

the acoustic coffee house: ridiculously cool 2 patio local hangout, appears a must-book stop on area tours...thrilled to have performed there  thanks to our friends the stereofidelics  http://www.thestereofidelics.com/   for booking w/ us and jamming our last set, thanks to Jim: http://www.acousticcoffeehouse.net/x/

aside from the obvious distractions (i still say knoxville women smoke those at ole miss every time), have really enjoyed performing and reconnection with w cumberland ave and market square...regardless of double-booking antics, thx to the preservation pub http://www.preservationpub.com/

someone in johnson city told me a story about how the labels on my CDs reminded her of a particularly memorable puke she had, but some how 'beautiful' still was uttered

looking forward to playing timewarp tearoom with jeff ruby, getting home isnt off the radar...

i know youre not reading this wheatstraw and lightning, but youre here with us, and while i didnt invite you, im not minding

more later...j

Current mood:  amorous
first meeting

amber tear with shadow wheatstraw lightning locks
by lamp and a stretch some notes on a subject mightly known
composition and pose, sensational transposition it flows and drives
once arrived on point once we scantly locked blue and brown eyes
suddenly annointed subrossa surprise

I am walking the delicate shadows of she

my view only translates like felony flowery springtime in cemetery
lost chances and their popular time to morn
im breaking diamonds with the mess this will leave behind
casual now but of singular mind
her sketches impress but im wishing i were the
dust on her page
and smudge on her face

I am walking the delicate shadows of she
-------------
second meeting

i am walking the delicate shadows of she

a multitude of vantages, values, hues
like the things i need and the things i choose
but i retreat with the right and the rise
of heightened blood flow to unspoken and wise
unknown smiles, riled, and fantastic smiles compiled
while exercise is far from where ashes fall to the ground

i am walking the delicate shadows of she
--------
third meeting

oops...weed, surprise...
balk, take time, revise
three chances now
wait, take time, advance and
distraction, word games, slight of hand

time will try to smother you
kidnapped and bound
stone yet unsound

you and hungry is the past
you and dont let that happiness bring you down
because the closer you get to heaven
you hurt like hell

i am walking the delicate shadows of you
---------------
fourth meeting

i am an idiot damn i keep fucking it up with
man i am really hurting my blood feels like lead tonight
ive let words fail me??
