SPREAD THE WORD! Bring your words, your music, your lyrics, your heart-shaped candy or just yourself to... DOWNBEAT 720 www.myspace.com/downbeat720 LA's premier open stage for high school performers TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 13TH (and every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month) Doors open at 7:00pm WE WILL START PROMPTLY AT 7:20PM Admission: FREE! FREE! FREE! Where: Miles Memorial Playhouse 1130 Lincoln Blvd (just N of Wilshire) Santa Monica, CA 90403 Who: Hosted by Joe Hernandez-Kolski (www.pochojoe.com & www.myspace.com/pochojoe) Music by DJ Jedi (www.greeneverymonday.com & www.myspace.com/djjedi1) Special Guest: DEZ HOPE (www.myspace.com/dezhope) Dez is one of our favorites. If you didn't catch his recent performance at Downbeat, you're in luck! Last week, as we were leaving, Desire said, "You know who would be perfect for Valentine's Day? Dez Hope!" And when we got to Jedi's car, he said, "You know, Rafael was just saying that we should have Dez as our feature for Valentine's Day." Talk about serendipity! So we called Dez, he rearranged some gigs and made it happen! Check out his MySpace to get a small taste of what this guitarist/singer/MC has in store for us! See you next Tuesday! Love, Joe and the Downbeat crew Downbeat 720 is sponsored by Justin Yoffe and the City of Santa Monica.

Born and raised just outside of Los Angeles, in California's Inland Empire, T Lopez made her earliest appearances singing Mariachi music in her grandmother's backyard, Gospel music in Sunday school, and breakdancing with her father's breakdancing crew at the age of four. Her passion for singing, acting, and entertaining only grew stronger with each passing year. At the age of 18, she became a member of Soluna, a four member all-Latina pop group. They were together for several years, leading to a tour with Enrique Iglesias and Marc Anthony and also a sitcom pilot developed and shot for UPN. (To learn more, go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soluna) T continues to keep the entertainment industry buzzing through acting and is also recording two albums - one in Spanish and one in English - to be released under the Cash Money Records label.
Long story short...she's ILL and not to be missed.
Featured Band:
This acoustic trio will be traveling over 50 miles to perform for YOU. All the way from Ontario, Cali, BARE THE EMBERS say that they sound like Dashboard Confessional meets the Cranberries. Check out their music on their MySpace page. My particular favorite is "Hopeless Romantics."
See you there.

FUNK + SOUL + BLUES + POETRY. I'm calling all of my GUITARISTS and SINGERS to come out tomorrow night. You must check out this group! I've been a fan of Sandbloom ever since I first saw them perform at Synergy Cafe in Culver City. They just killed it at House of Blues a couple of weeks ago and they'll be opening for the French duo, Les Nubians, in a couple of weeks at Temple Bar! Pretty amazing, huh?
Featured Band:
These are some of the most talented high school kids you will ever see on a stage! They killed it up in the valley a couple of weeks ago at the Downbeat up there and now they're comin' down to perform for us!
See you there.

Maaaaaan, I hope that y'all had a fun summer cuz Downbeat's gonna be off the chains this year! I've been working on getting us some top-of-the-line special guests and we're starting the year off right! Beau Sia, one of the ILLEST comedic poets in the country, now lives in LA and he's down to be our first guest! He's a Tony-Award winning poet from "Def Poetry on Broadway." Definitely one of mine and Jedi's favorites. And we've got a brand new featured band too--Transit State straight from Hoover High!
Here's the important thing: We could use your help handing out flyers. If you'd like a stack, let me know and I'll get them to you.
See ya next Tuesday!

Beau is easily one of my favorite poets in the country. Hands down. I first saw him in "Slam" and then "SlamNation," the documentary that followed him, Saul Williams, Jessica Care Moore and MuMs to the National Poetry Slam Finals as part of the Nuyorican Poets Cafe Team. He's won a Tony Award for "Def Poetry on Broadway." He's been on HBO's "Def Poetry" like five freakin' times. He comes to us from Oklahoma City via New York City. Ask Jedi, this kid's gonna kill it.
Featured Band:
Straight from Hoover High School, these guys consider the following bands their influences: Built to Spill, Pavement, Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Weezer, Spinto Band, Casxio, Canon, Talking Heads, Walk. It's their first time at Downbeat, so let's give them a great welcome!
