Gypsy Jazz Weekend at the Bell Street Cafe in Shaftesbury, Dorset, UK
25,26,27th May 2007
For the first time in Dorset, the Bell Street Cafe is organising a Gypsy Jazz Weekend.
Happening over the Whitsun Bank Holiday weekend, this major event features some of the most talented gypsy guitarists.
Starting with Stuart Carter Smith and Gypsy Fire, on Friday 25th May, featuring Stuart himself and Ben Travers as fellow guitarist, both of them are already really well known in the gypsy jazz circle. Stuart organises the yearly fantastic Gypsy Jazz Festival(IGGF) at the end of July in Gossington. Last year he welcomed, among others, two famous manouche musicians: Moreno and Tcha Limberger.
On Saturday 25th May Petites Annonces are playing, the bad boys of the style, easily melting old french javas and gypsy swing. Leading you on the path of "Punk Manouche", they deliver furious versions of somes gypsy standards and dig out some unknown French songs.
