Stars for Stripes Special Premieres Today

Chart-topper Chris Young is on the radio now with his latest single and album title track, “The Man I Want to Be,” and he’s warming up a cold month with a busy road schedule, TV, and a new video, all hot on the heels of his recent #1 smash, “Gettin’ You Home.”

New on the charts, “The Man I Want to Be” is already wowing the critics, with Billboard cheering “a remarkably seasoned performance by a young talent who has the vocal chops and sensibility to follow in the footsteps of his hero, Keith Whitley,” while Music Row declares, “He wraps his pipes around the ballad with an enormous warmth and tenderness … this is a star-making performance.”

“The Man I Want to Be,” as well as “Gettin’ You Home,” are just two of the songs featured on Young’s sophomore album, The Man I Want to Be.

Written by noted songwriters Brett James and Tim Nichols, “The Man I Want to Be,” with its tale of hope and redemption, comes to life on the small screen in a poignant new music video currently airing in Turbo rotation on GAC and debuting in Heavy rotation on CMT and CMT Pure on Monday.  The video is also online now at CMT.com.

In addition, fans can be watching for Chris tomorrow night as GAC premieres the new special, Stars for Stripes: Wounded Warriors Return.  Hosted by GAC’s Nan Kelley, the one-hour broadcast documents an overseas trip earlier this year that found Kelley, Young, and fellow country star Craig Morgan, together with wounded warriors Sergeant First Class Joseph Bowser (U.S. Army, retired) and Staff Sergeant Scott Lilley (USAF), as they toured and visited with servicemen and women at bases and hospitals in Kuwait, Iraq, and Germany.  The special premieres December 10, at 9:30 PM ET, on GAC.

Young is also maintaining a busy tour schedule in December, including a Grand Ole Opry performance on December 15, followed by an autograph signing at the Opry Originals location in downtown Nashville, and he’ll be celebrating 2010 headlining a New Year’s Eve concert at Cowboys in Dallas, TX.

Some of you have asked how Chris's first #1 hit, GETTIN' YOU HOME, came together for songwriters Kent Blazy, Cory Batten, and Chris Young.  Alanna Conaway spoke with each of them and has the answer in the November 16 issue of COUNTRY WEEKLY.  Chris even makes an appearance at the top of the magazine cover.  Go out and get a copy because this issue is a keeper!

Kenny Chesney Helps Deliver the News!

Nashville, TN – RCA Nashville hitmaker Chris Young earns the first #1 smash of his career as “Gettin’ You Home (The Black Dress Song)” powers its way to the top of Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, as well as Country Aircheck’s Mediabase chart.

From his recently released sophomore album, The Man I Want to Be, “Gettin’ You Home” is also a song that Chris co-wrote, which makes the success even more special.  “This is just so cool for me – this feeling will last the rest of my life,” he says.

Young recalls one of the fun aspects of hearing about his first #1 was the way it was delivered, when he stepped off a plane and called his record label head of promotion.  Chris says that as he was getting the news, he heard, “Hang on…there’s someone I want you to talk to,” at which point the phone changed hands and a man’s voice came on the line and began talking about his first #1 single before congratulating Chris on “Gettin’ You Home.”  That voice, Chris says, “was Kenny Chesney.  So, that was pretty cool!”

While celebration is definitely in order, Chris will be back on the road this week, and among his upcoming dates, Young will join American Idol finalists Michael Johns and Brooke White as well as other artists backed by American Idol music director Rickey Minor and his band, this Friday for the Idle Time Concert at the Lexington Opera House in Lexington, KY.  Presented by Shirecrest Equine Education Center, and working with the University of Kentucky Children’s Hospital, the event benefits Lash’s Lessons, an educational program designed to teach healthy living concepts to children.  More information on the program, as well as a link to buy event tickets, can be found at lashslessons.net.
