Brave New World's New Documentary Project: The DC Sniper Story Untold
October 26, 2009 -
Seattle, Wash. - This past Thursday BNW President/CEO, Shyan Selah,
and Isa Nichols, author, domestic abuse survivor and the
first targeted victim of DC Sniper John Muhammad, sat down
for a press conference with local Washington state media to discuss a key
aspect of the DC Sniper case and to formerly recognize October as Domestic
Violence Awareness Month.
During the conference Ms. Nichols introduced her
memoir, Genesis: The Bullet Was Meant for Me, the DC Sniper Story Untold,
and made the Seattle media aware of major facts to the DC Sniper story that
were previously unknown - primarily because, until recently, she wasn't
ready to tell of those facts. Ms. Nichols was the first targeted victim of John
Muhammad as retaliation for her support and assistance in helping Muhammad's
wife, Mildred, regain custody of her children and escape Muhammad's abuse.
However, it was Nichols' niece, Keenya Cook, who was the first
person to die at the hands of Lee Malvo. Malvo was ordered by
Muhammad to go to Nichols' Tacoma home and shoot her as part of an
"initiation killing." It is thought that Malvo, who had never before
met Nichols, assumed he had shot the right person when Nichols' 21-year-old
niece, and mother of a six month old baby girl, opened the door. It would be
months before anyone made the connection between this horrific and seemingly
random killing and the "terrorist attack" that shook Washington D.C.
residents in 2002.
"John had sent him up to my door to shoot me, but
because he did not know me he shot Keenya," said Ms. Nichols during the
press conference. "Shot her point-blank in the face with a .45 caliber
handgun." Nichols and her 14 year old daughter discovered Cook's body when
she returned home from the store that evening.
And even now most
are not aware of the role domestic abuse and domestic violence played an
early part in this story. Mildred Muhammad suffered abuse at the hands of
John Muhammad, Keenya Cook was staying with her aunt Isa in order to leave a
domestically violent situation, and through her recovery of these horrific and
tragic events, Ms. Nichols was also forced to come to grips with her own
suffering of emotional and mental abuse within her marriage.
Now, Shyan Selah and Brave New World will be bringing this
dynamic story to the screen as a documentary based on Ms.
Nichols' recount in Genesis.....
Selah, who is in the process of recording his
new album to be released through Bungalo/Universal in Spring
2010, looks forward to this documentary as his directorial and
producer debut.
"I'm compelled to work on behalf of bettering
humanity," said Selah. "This is a story of human interest. To be a
part of it in any fashion is humbling, yet necessary. I'm excited to go to work
on this."

Genesis:
The D.C. Sniper – Story Untold
Media
Day Announcement
....................
Isa Nichols,
the first targeted victim of John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo,
will be on hand to discuss the downward spiral of domestic abuse, overcoming
tragedy and the upcoming execution of John Muhammad from the perspective of the
D.C. Snipers’ victims this Thursday October 22nd,
2009, 12 noon at Imigri
Studios in Seattle.
Nichols will be meeting with close
friend and community activist/international artist, Shyan Selah, to talk
about the process that she and other victims have had to go through to rebuild
their lives the last seven years, as well as what it means that John Muhammad
will now be put to death for the crimes that have altered their lives in such
drastic and heartbreaking fashion. (Muhammad is scheduled to be executed
November 10, 2009.)
Members of the media are welcome to
attend and ask questions during this 1 ½ hour long discussion which will be
taped for an upcoming documentary. (Due to expected
attendance, it is encouraged that questions be submitted beforehand via email
at the address below to ensure that they be answered during event.) The
documentary will be produced by Shyan Selah and will feature a detailed account
of Nichols’ story.
Nichols was the first targeted victim of
John Muhammad as retaliation for her support and assistance in helping
Muhammad’s wife, Mildred, regain custody of her children and escape Muhammad’s
abuse. However, it was Nichols’ niece, Keenya Cook, who was the first
person to die at the hands of Lee Malvo. Malvo was ordered by Muhammad to go to
Nichols’ Tacoma home and shoot her as part of an “initiation killing.” It is
thought that Malvo, who had never before met Nichols, assumed he had shot the
right person when Nichols’ 21-year-old niece, and mother of a six month old
baby girl, opened the door. It would be months before anyone made the
connection between this horrific and seemingly random killing and the
“terrorist attack” that shook Washington D.C. residents in 2002.
Isa Nichols has been the unknown
catalyst for much of the D.C. Sniper story. We invite you to come, listen and
learn as she makes her story known
and shines the light on how domestic abuse led to domestic terrorism.

....................
This past Monday night was all about soul, health, music and
education for The Seattle Area Youth
Green Dinner at the Mount Baker Community Club in Seattle. The dinner was
part of Keith Tucker’s “Pursuit of a Green Planet” film
documentary project. Shyan Selah and
Brave New World, Inc (BNW) have partnered with Tucker on this historic movement
which merges hip hop ideals with the Going Green movement. ....
.. ..
The audience was largely comprised of youth groups from East
Madison YMCA, El Centro de la Raza and Powerful Schools. Once the kids had a
chance to try a healthy first time vegetarian dinner from “the Upper Crust”
caterers, they were educated about food and health trends by speakers such as
Amanda Strombom, President of Vegetarians of Washington; Ngosi Oleru, Chief of
Environmental Health Services for King County Public Health; and Dr. Che
Joplin, author of I am Hip Hop, I am
Health.
.. ..
The goal of the “Pursuit of a Green Planet” documentary is
to take an inside look at how the food we eat affects our health and tie
healthy living back to the origins of hip hop. As hip hop was a pioneering art
form for the urban community looking for a better life in the late 70s,
“Pursuit of a Green Planet” brings those ideals full circle by incorporating
hip hop into the Green Movement.
.. ..
During the Green Dinner, the audience was treated to a dance
performance by T3AM AV3NG3R$, a “jerk” dance group and recording artist and Seattle native Shyan Selah (who happens to be a vegetarian) hosted the event and
performed the “Green Label” remix
versions of his hit single, “Hollywood Blvd,” and “My Musik,” from his Brave New World album out last year.
Both songs received standing ovations from the audience. Shyan and his company, Brave New World, Inc will assist the “Pursuit of
a Green Planet” crew with Green Dinners in Los Angeles, as well as the
soundtrack for the documentary.....
.. ..
More about the film:....
The film, “Pursuit
of a Green Planet (POAGP)” takes a critical look at the connections between
food, culture, economics and the epidemic of lifestyle related disease plaguing
America’s youth. Keith Tucker is a regular guy who will become a living
experiment as he makes the radical transition from your average American diet
and lifestyle to a truly green, organic vegan lifestyle. He will be our guide
on a journey of discovery as we learn how our food today actually makes us
sick, the role corporation’s play in determining what we consume, the history
of chemicals in our food chain, how our everyday eating habits can become
deadly and what we can do to combat these realities. ....
.. ..
Keith and company
will travel the country on the Greenhound, a bus converted to run off of pure
and recycled vegetable oil. On the journey with Keith will be two youth who
have severe and immediate health issues related to their diet and lifestyle.
These youth are at a crucial crossroads where they have to change their
lifestyle or risk a dramatic decrease in their health and quality of life. Our
travelers will have to meet some of the biggest personalities in Hip Hop, all of
whom are long time vegetarians and vegans. Saul Williams, Justin Bua, Persia
White, Stic Man, KRS One and others will meet our travelers and make
appearances in the film.....

"Michael Jackson was an inspiration to the entire world. He was one of the few major stars for a long time that actually embraced Hip Hop and included Rap/Rock music in his projects. He was a pioneer for the arts in many regards, a ferocious entrepreneur, an amazing dancer and let's not forget the thousands of children in need he supported over the years. I send my love to his family and fans".
