Our arrangements for bands are fairly straightforward , and should
benefit both us and the artists at the end of the night:
-Scheduling:
All show's should be scheduled at least 2 months in advance, this gives
print, web, and radio advertisement time to build up the show. It also
gives word of mouth a chance to hype the bands as well. Of course this
won't always happen, indeed some shows thrown together at the last
minute have worked out amazingly, but lets try to plan ahead none the
less.
-Requirements: Before a show will
be considered booked Jose's must have: A date and time, band's contact
info (all bands scheduled), a cover price or door arrangement, a
coordinator of the event (someone who can do light paperwork is a plus)
-Load in: This
is the one area where things can get very bad, very quickly. Preferably
the coordinator of the show will arrive first to get a feeling for the
space and to give the staff updates. This will hardly ever happen, so
all bands, whether you are booking the show or playing with please try
to arrive at or before 7:00 pm. This is especially important
for opening acts, or bands that have large amounts of equipment and/or
complex sound checks (both seem to go together). Drummers should arrive
with kit first. We have two load in points, one is from the stairs
adjacent to Wave St. (the parking lot next to our building will
charge you to park there). The best idea is to pull up right in front
of the building and put you're hazard lights on. For heavy and delicate
equipment we have a handicap access ramp at the rear of the building.
This can be reached from the bike path behind us, simply roll or walk
the equipment through the parking lot and onto the path. The earlier we
get you loaded in the better the quality of you're sound check. If you
are running late or are lost please contact the staff here, the show
coordinator might not know how to get back to hwy. 156 west after
missing an exit off of the 101 south, but we do. And in the end don't
worry too much, we try to work with whatever happens, as long as you do
as well.
-Equipment Issues: If you know
that you will need specialty equipment bring it! Jose's has enough
stuff to get by, and we do alright by it I swear. If you need high
quality vocal microphone or wireless headsets, we just won't have them.
Contact us and find out what we do have, and what you need to make your
sound work best. While we do have two storage areas for bands, the less
equipment the better. If bands are comfortable with it, we always
suggest sharing a drum kit, this will make transitioning from one band
to the next far more seamless. Equipment can be left overnight and
retrieved the next day after 11am, we have no problem with this,
especially if the alternative is waiting till 4 in the morning to get
out of here.
-Accommodation: If you are
planning on playing at Jose's and are on tour or from out of town, let
us know in advance. There is a good chance we can find you a place to
stay, maybe just a couch or some carpet, but something. We know that
hotel costs can eat away at a tour budget, so give us a heads up if you
don't mind couch surfing. Jose's Lounge Underground is directly beneath
a Mexican restaurant (a very good one I might add) and we try to get
the bands playing fed at least before a show. While we cannot always do
this, let us know if you are hungry.
-Merch / Lighting / Etc.:
We can provide a couple tables for merchandise, usually right next to
the stage. Our security and staff are not obliged to protect your
merchandise so have a dedicated person at the table. Wall space can be
used for T-shirts, LP's, posters and such, just ask if you need tape or
tacs. While we have a few spotlights, anything special must be provided
by the bands. We encourage people to bring along lighting equipment,
smoke machines, lasers, anything to make the place a bit more
spectacular. We do have a few things here, so once again, contact us
with any questions. Now some basic facts: Don't use drugs here, don't
bring outside alcohol here, don't start fights, don't be rude to our
staff, don't disrespect other bands you are playing with, and don't
tell your friends that "I'm not playing till 11 so don't show up till
then" We are a very friendly place (no joke) and want to keep it that
way.
