This Brooklyn, NY native has been writing since the age of 5. Early on, she took notice of how music affected people, realizing how it makes people reminisce and eases pain; how it uplifts, calms, and heals. Music naturally flows through Yolanda’s veins. Yolanda’s father, Samuel Jonathan Johnson, was a Columbia Recording Artist. Yolanda is also cousin to Charlie, Ronnie, and Robert of the Gap Band. She says, "All I remember as a child growing up was going to bed listening to my father's band and waking up hearing my father's band. DJ Soulswede goes in depth with Yolanda Johnson. Enjoy!

Los Angeles based producer Astral22 delivers a solid first ever compilation release titled “Astral22 Presents…IMPERIAL”. This spirited soulful "smooth", “feel good” production showcases Astral22’s various artist collaborations & re-works. This project features a quality line-up of hand picked emerging and established independent soul talent.

The focus here is on the music, lyrical content, and this producer’s signature blend of jazzy funky melodic grooves. Expect an assortment of lush mid- tempo tracks, sophisticated dance floor shakers, and the overall deep mellow “grown folks” vibe this producer is becoming steadily known for.

DJ Soulswede talks to Armand Tulumello aka Astral22 about Imperial and how it all started. Enjoy!

Steve Arrington has been away from the game for a while, but he knew that eventually he would come back and do something unique...the next step. Known for his innovative vocal style, which can be heard on such classics as "Watching You," "Just A Touch of Love," "Snap Shot," and "Wait for Me," all with Slave; "Weak at the Knees," (which was sampled by Jay-Z, Jermaine Dupri, NWA, and more) and "Nobody Can Be You, But You," the powerful message track, from his S.A. Hall of Fame days; plus, "Way Out," the vocal extravaganza..."where you never been before", "Feel So Real," and "Dancin In The Key Of Life," heavy dance music and finally, "Stone Love," the smooth ballad, all from his solo work; show the wide versatility in his game.

Like all true artists, Steve never does the same thing over and over. He must keep changing and growing. Check out Steve Arrington's new album "Pure Thang" and listen to our new interview with Mr Arrington made by DJ Funk-O-Nots. Yo Yo Get Funky...

“Queen” of “new-soul hip, hop”. Some people want the fame, fortune and the riches often accompanied with being a celebrity. But, Marilyn Ashford-Brown isn’t at all motivated or caught up in the glamour of the business. She just wants to sing, and to be able to make a decent living doing what she loves doing more than anything else in the world. Whenever, faced with disappointments, she minds herself of a quote once read from actor, Harrison Ford. It stated that “it’s the people who get on the bus, and stay on it, which are successful, not the ones who get off”.

Marilyn has remained on this bus for countless years. Unfortunately, the passengers who started the journey with her got off along the way. But, she stayed on, and she’s not getting off until she reaches her destination. Perseverance and determination is clearly evidence of her artistic and professional prowess to succeed in the recording industry. She depends totally on God, prayer and being musically creative to sooth and sustain her soul. Check out the new interview by DJ Funk-O-Nots. Enjoy!
