W a rash of fucking nightmares as well, in true Atheist fashion, we always seem to have these strange things happen to us whilst touring. The night before I was leaving for The Brutal Assault festival in Cz Republic, I started fucking shaking and sweating and my throat was killing me, like really bad, so I just sort of flew over and hoped for the best, but upon arriving at the fest, I really was fatigued, and feeling shitty, so much so that flynn went looking for a doctor so we could get me some antibiotics. He found one across from the hotel, and with the assistance of an interpreter, we managed to find out according to them I had a severe throat infection, but they referred to it as "Angina" which has heart implications etc, so we are freaking out because they are telling me you have to rest constantly, no singing, no drinking, nothing...so CLEARLY, that was not going to be possible with a run of dates just getting started, not to mention a trip to amsterdam, you are telling me i cant smoke out in holland...i say fuck that, but i did not drink for the whole tour till the very end of my antibiotics which was in Finland, so it turns out in europe, angina is basically Strep throat, and there were no reasons to worry about heart issues....yikes close call! So while I was in a ton of pain, we got through the first 2 shows, and truthfully it went better than if i has been drinking, i feel like my screams were stronger etc. Drinking just always happens with me at shows so to not drink was a great experiment for me, and it turned out to be a great wake up call for me. Many thanks to all the people who came from around the world to the brutal assault festival, it was a really well done event, except there was a mix up about how long we were to play so instead of us playing an extra 20 min, we were accidently cut 20 min, so we apologize to the fans who expected a longer set...we expected to play longer as well, and we will be back next year to make it up to you. Many thanks to our good friend and promoter Thomas for the great hospitality. Many great things happened on this night and we saw many friends old and new including the Faceless and the Suffocation guys. But probably the most important meeting of the trip was between myself and one Patrick Mameli from Pestilence. As many of you know we have not exactly been the best of friends since 1991. Many daggers have been thrown by the both of us, and at the end of the day we were both right to be angry with one another. We had a very neede discussion about all of that shit backstage at the Brutal Assault fest, and steve flynn also had a 45 min talk w him as well. We parted as friends, and that is a lot more positive then harboring anger for so many years, we are cool with pestlilence, and we all actually had a great time discussing the old days and the future of our bands playing together, they're Gtr layer patrick also came to our show in Zandaam which was very cool. so... The Technical X-tacy tour may soon enough happen! Also saw Opeth for the first time and I must eat my words on this band...i had not really understood why they were being handed the torch of greatness all of the time...but I now know why, it was masterful, and I cant say enough about the drummer FUCK he was amazing on this night. It was pure fucking torture to not be able to drink my bottle of jager in the dressing room LOL it was just sitting there next to the Red Bull saying...Bro! Cmon letys get together and fucking light it up, but no could do, i needed to get healthy...and quick cause this was going to be a journey i needed to get healthy for. The venue by the way was this incredible old russian military base i think , and it was very moody, great location! SO first show in the bag and off to Holland we go! I will try to have it up tomorrow, so many details so little time! cheers Kelly

Sad to say today marks the 17th anniversary of one of the most amazing metal musicians to ever live, not cause i say so..but because it is the "truth" The late great Roger Patterson will always be a pioneer ! His work on Piece of Time and Unquestionable Presence is in my opinion is still unrivaled in todays metal scene. He was my band member, songwriting partner and roommate before his death, and I will always remember the great times we had, and will always cherish playing on those records and writing that music with him. This year we have plans for a double disc DVD which will include tons of great footage including Atheist home movies while recording Piece of Time @ Morrisound Studios in the late 80's. We also have the very last show show Roger played 2 days before his death, which marked the very last time he played the music of Atheist, and it's fucking sick!! He played his ass off that night as it was the last night of our tour, and we were firing it off.... even though there were only about 200 people there. So watch for that along with other footage never before seen of the band over the years. And a yet unfilmed full length concert DVD from one of the upcoming shows in 2009/2010 Horns up forever. Roger Patterson! You are terribly missed!

2/6/09 Greets everyone! As I write this I am sitting in Casa de Flynn (ie Steve Flynn's pad) in Atlanta, Ga, freezing my ass off and suffering from a SkyeLilly induced Head cold.(Thank you my little blue eyed We were in The "infamous", Led Belly Studios yesterday finishing the mixing of Atheist Live @ Wacken. It's a very stripped down, no overdubs live recording from our appearance @ Wacken Open Air in 2006 as part of the reunion dates we did. This was only the 4th show on what would become many. So why record the 4th show??...well we did not actually ever intended on it, but we found out that Wacken had raw tracks that could be re-mixed, whereas most recordings we get are from soundboards, and you cannot turn up gtrs, vox etc on those type of recordings..SO.... We obtained the raw tracks and have now mixed 8 tunes with Matt (Mastodon, Gnostic) at Ledbelly Studios here in the ATL. The results? A very VERY live(Mistakes and all) and raw set of tracks from the "Piece of Time", and "Unquestionable Presence" era of Atheist, it sounds suprisingly warm, and for those who were there in Germany that afternoon to see Atheist on what was probably one of the more "magical" performances we have ever had as a band, it was really the first time we had played for people who had been around back in the early days of the band, and were now writers, or owned record companies, plus all of the new fans of this strange Technical Metal genre of music.... this will encapsulate that experience for us, you and as well as those who were not there that day..... It was a great day! Tonight 2/6/09 we are heading to Avatar rehearsal studios to write for the new Atheist record, Sonny, Chris, Flynn and myself..along with new Gnostic bass player JT helping us till Tony Choy arrives, will be continue sculpting, and creating this new piece of "art" that is materializing as the first new Atheist music in almost 16 years. Tony Choy will be joining us soon, and we can hardly wait to hear how it will all sound ourselves. Ok cheers to you all, and love to my SkyeLilly Cheers Kelly

Current mood: blissful
I cannot tell you how excited I am to be rid of 2008, it was one of my personal shittiest years in terms of of life in general. I am so stoked about this new year, and I think essentially, it is always good to have a fresh new start now isn't it? I might be leaving for Boston in about 10 days to do do a certain little documentary show, for a certain little network with the initials M.T.V Can't say won't say, but if it goes down, I can promise you it will be good television for certain. I have a lot of new pics and video stuff I wanted to wait for the new year to post, and so I will try to get that done in between this Boston trip, and my trip back up to Atlanta to continue writing for the new Atheist record. We also have some other Atheist news to bust out here in a few days. New Years was totally insane here in Sarasota, much Jager was consumed and even more fun was had, with SkyeLilly safely tucked away at G-ma's for the night, I got to spread my wings a bit and bring in the new year the right way. We spent the better part of the night drinking at my friend Jurgen's bar OMalleys on Main St. in downtown Sarasota, with a lot of great friends, to say it was eventful is to cheapen it LOL. My friend Josh's car got stolen,my other friend had an altercation with a dumbass who started shit with him in the parking lot and that he of course finished by knocking his punk ass out cold at like 4:30 a.m and was then put in jail for it...sucks!
As I write this Skyelilly just blew my mind as she does everyday, but she just turned 3 and I have been working really hard with her on reading, counting etc. She counts to 100, and to 10 in spanish hahah, and she just read this Backyardigan's book almost flawlessly, WOW Skyelilly! You folks who think having a child is a pain in the ass are really missing out on an unequal quality of life. Kids are just the best things ever....especially Skyelilly! Been playing tons of guitar as of late getting my DM chops back up to the Atheist caliber, doing tons of writing. This week I came up for what I think the next Atheist album will be called....cannot share just yet, but if I can get away with it, it will be brilliant. So 2009 promises to be quite a year and I can hardly wait to explore it! I hope you all had a safe, and happy New year!!!! Cheers Kelly

Current mood: breezy
It's late Saturday night and i am reflecting on a very productive week for Atheist and me personally. It has been many years since me and my lifelong friend Steve Flynn have made music together. All I have to say is it was well worth the wait, the stuff that we wrote this week confirms in my head that this Atheist album is going to be a contemporary continuation of where we left off with Unquestionable Presence. My carpal tunnel is killing my hand, but we wrote a ton of great riffs this week.We wrote 2 complete skeletons of new Atheist songs this week, and they are full of interesting broadminded metal lashings. Talk is cheap so i will not go on and on about it, but I know in my heart that I fucking dare someone to doubt this record, I know there will be many that will have some shit to say, but, those who truly know and understand this band will be as excited as we are to hear these crazy, insane time sigs and brutality combined. Me and steve have been friends for 25 plus years, and when you are that close to someone for that long, you can hardly go wrong when creating art together. It's still a daunting mountain that we are in the early stages of climbing...but already it's clear as a bell that this will be very authentic, and honest. With that said i miss Skyelilly so much, this is the longest i have not seen her since she was a baby baby when we toured in europe in 06/07. I love you Skyelilly, and daddy will be home tomorrow. It's fucking cold here in atlanta, i love the thought of being on the beach tomorrow back home in Sarasota.....it's good to live in paradise, no matter how crazy life gets. I wish to thank my dear friend Coley for watching my little stuey dog this week as well, I know he had a good time. To my friends in Sarasota...see you soon! Cheers K

My net connection as of late is really slow, so my apologies if it takes me a minute to answer your letters. The end of an era of sorts went down here in my hometown, after 11 rs I closed Kelly's Rock and Roll Smokeshop i Sarasota, Florida. With a new Atheist album that needs to be written and recorded, a 2.86 yr old that needs her Daddy;s undivided attention, and an economy that is easily the worst it's ever been in my lifetime, I closed the doors....but we do have a ton of work to do, and I really want to work hard on making the next chapter of the legacy of Atheist and we will not sleep till it rules!
So I will be heading to the ATL just after Skyelilly's Birthday 11/11 zipping back home for turkey day,and then back to the lab for more technical metal brewing. We hope to have it ready by spring 09 and then it's off for some/lots touring, and hope to hit some countries we have not been to, as well as ones we have not been to since 93. Australia, Scotland,Ireland, Holland, as well as of course Germany, Italy, Scandinavia etc. Just did a painting for an auction that Brenda Johnson asked me to paint, it is of brian in a colorful early eighties era pose, but dark as well. I will post the pic on here in a moment. I am also posting the track "Ivory Vines" from the Pyroclastic demo, it was a song we wrote in the same sitting as "Green Revolution" very sludgy, enoy, tell friends. We have some great ideas for aPyroclastic album in the near future, but for now you can download the demo free at ww.myspace.com/pyroclasticmetal We will be buckling down on Atheist for a quite a while, can't wait till 09!
