This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Every Friday the Song of the Day podcast spotlights Northwest musicians. Today's featured selection, chosen by Morning Show host John Richards is "Cold Boys" by The Turn-Ons from their upcoming release Curse on Childstar.

Since Spring in Seattle has never seemed to arrive, The Turn-Ons are a perfect accompaniment to the brooding and lamenting over the lack of sun our fair city has gotten in the past few months. Filled with references to internal and external struggles, this Seattle band's fifth overall release showcases the maturity and musicianship (most members play more than one instrument) of a band that's been together since 1997. "Cold Boys" is a quiet and moody song reminiscent of The Smiths and is filled with literary references.

Their third full-length album, Curse is a labor of love having taken the band nearly two years to complete. It was engineered and produced by The Turn-On's own Erik Blood. Following the current trend, the entire album is available to download for free (along with alternate versions and outtakes) on the band's website. Prolific songwriter & frontman Travis DeVries is also working on a solo album to be released later this year. He's playing a solo show at The Comet on June 15th.
