Current mood:  accomplished
Hi!
So while cleaning up the practice space I (Conan Neutron), found this little gem... this is the setlist for the very last Replicator show at the Hemlock in SF. I always like seeing this kind of stuff.

First set was Replicator "classic", Conan Neutron on guitar and vocals, Ben Adrian on bass and vocals, and Chris Bolig on Drums.

the second set was Replicator as the live entity for the Machines tour and  and time period... same lineup but with Todd Grant on extra guitar.

the best thing about this was that we didn't even tell anybody that he was going to be playing the last show , heck the best thing was we didn't know ourselves until the night before the show. We kept the lights off until the big part on Frank Lloyd Wrong where we all play.

Still one of the coolest feelings i've ever had in my life as a musician.

Anyway, this is what we played, 2 sets. It was glorious

no real surprises, all of the post-winterval "hits" and 2/3 of Whangbar Province.
The cover of Moby Dick and song suite of the parts we actually liked from the first album never worked out.

Anyway, we're still broken up, Ben has got his Guitar vs. Gravity:
http://www.myspace.com/gvsg
http://www.feedbackloop.net/gvsg/

They have an ep called Department of Systems and Processes, and are currently recording for another ep called City of the Future.

He can generally be found out and about in the bay area showing off his skillz of an artist (er... musician)

Conan Neutron and Chris Bolig (aka: Richard "wreckless" Necklace) can be found in :
http://www.mountvicious.com
http://www.myspace.com/mountvicious

Who recorded a 5 song ep with Ben called Leather Beer Caddy that is available to download. They just finished recording a full length with John Congleton of the pAperchAse that is coming out in June with a national tour to follow.

That's it! now go pay attention to some bands that are actually alive now.

Greetings from the dead!
Don't be alarmed, Replicator is still broken up... you can still find them at http://www.myspace.com/mountvicious (Chris and Conan) and http://www.myspace.com/gvsg (Ben) however... for the next two weeks, this account will be active as a:
DEAD BAND MERCHING!

Why is this?
Well chiefly because we have some stuff left over and we'd rather it be in the hands of friends and fans then collecting dust at the practice space.

So here's the deal... for 2 weeks everything we have left over is going to be ON SALE!
$5!!! (er, plus postage).

so say you want 4 shirts, it'd be $20 and postage.
We'll ship them anywhere... anyhow.

And what are we selling?
Firstly the final series of black Replicator shirts that have the silver square logo.
They look a little something like this:

we have the following sizes and numbers:
5 2 - Small
1 - Medium
2 - Large
5 - Extra Large

We also have a bunch of of the old "warning sign" design in the small size (and one in the youth medium size)

3-grey (various shades)
1-white
3-pastel green
2 1-tan
2-light blue
1-purple
1-light tan
1-medium blue
2-yellowish tan
1-white

and a youth medium in a sort of tan...

Sorry, the only size we have of these is small, there's a funny story behind that, it involves selling out of the smalls almost immediately, and then a reorder with miscalculated numbers.
heh.

In any case, if you are size small and interested... you are styling.

We also have a few weird one offs..
for instance a medium darkish blue non-hooded sweatshirt with the Square R printing.

size extra large...
yes this is $5 too!

There is also a grey shirt that has silver printing... looks like this:

only one of those, size large on that one too.
Yes, we will be selling cds...
although we prefer you buy them through cdbaby or radio is down.
http://www.replicator5000.com/?page_id=28

"", DDBBLLVVZZNN and Whangbar are not available.

What we don't have any left of... Circle R stickers, you are under surveillance stickers... or any button not pictured.

These are NOT $5, These will be given with each and every order... in fact, if you want a goodly amount of any of those stickers it is readily available... that is the one thing we have a LOT of.

If, for some reason you wanted a bunch of them, i'm sure we can arrange something.

Paypal is preferred for all of these.

From Conan:

I am in a band.

That is to say, I have my own band again.

I am very proud to introduce you to, and this is long awaited by me:

That is the band, this is the logo:

I've been working long and hard with Chris and company IN NEAR ABSOLUTE SECRECY, to put this together and have assembled a pretty damn fantastic group of people together. We. are. stoked!

We laid down a quick 4 song demo recording/ep called AXIS OF AWESOME earlier this month, which we just finished mixing

As you can see, that is hungry work.

Here is our little about me section for more:

It all began with Conan Neutron, Richard Necklace, and a musical theory: musicians don't need to wallow in willful obscurity to write and perform interesting songs; catchiness does not preclude novelty and innovation does not preclude blandness.

With these thoughts in mind, Messrs. Neutron and Necklace decided to start a band that preserved the intensity and truth of their previous trio while evoking appreciation among music lovers as well as musicians and theoreticians.

In order to achieve this, a team had to be assembled -- a dream team, if you will: a team that could withstand and match the intense performance, personality, and perspiration of Mr. Neutron; a team unafraid to play at volumes audible above the violently rhythmic acrobatics of Mr. Necklace; a team in which attitude, personality, and sense of purpose were held in equal regard to technical prowess.

One man soon came to mind to add to the core: "Daddy" Dré Burgerwolf. His like-mindedness, arrangement skills, and flair for guitar bombast portended great promise for his value as a partner in crime… or perhaps it was just his nut-sack showing through his Lucite guitar that rendered him so desirable. Whatever the case, "Daddy" was quickly seduced to the fold.

Shortly thereafter, a chance meeting followed by some directed ranting made it clear, with nary a note being played, that the inimitable Brian James, bass superstar, would be charged with manhandling the bottom end. Instinct, in this matter, was ultimately vindicated: the only thing cooler than Mr. James' bass playing was his hair.

The final formative chord of universal benevolence was struck when providence saw fit to offer forth Alli Mayhem -- shining star of preposterous guitar talent, maven of subterranean six string cosmology, and inspiration to a black-clad legion of unknowable proportion -- to this nascent band of merry music makers.

The lineup thus solidified, our intrepid heroes endured the crucible of a nameless summer before ultimately and definitively divining the name of the rock beast they had become…

.

And lo, there shall be a reckoning.

--

In a nutshell, it's Chris and I from Replicator, Andre from Stay Gold Pony Boy (and Boyjazz, and Long Thaw, and Generalissimo), Brian from We're Gonna Fight the Eskimos Next, and Alli from the Holy Kiss (and the Cold War). I sing more then I play guitar, and when I do play guitar it's a little different than Replicator. When I sing it's more singing, and less hollerin' and shoutin'.

Also, I don't wear glasses anymore.

Mount Vicious is not Replicator part II, it's designed to be a little different, but hopefully maintain that same intensity.

There are interlocking harmonies and such, there is call and response, there is all kinds of awesome.

Did I mention I "sing" more?

Our first show, right now... looks to be October 25th at thee parkside, with our pals the Ex Boyfriends, who were just voted Best Indie Band by the San Francisco Bay Guardian (awesome?!?) with tours in the Pacific Northwest and in SoCal already in the planning stages.

(hint: If you'd like to help that happen, drop me a line!)

We will have cds then, until then please feel free to download our stuff away and pass it along to anybody that you might thing is interested.

To say that we are hitting the ground running is an understatement.

We are actually standing right behind you.

Hi.

It's Vicious... Mount Vicious.

Hi everybody, for those that have been asking here is the first of two posts that concern what former Replicator guys are doing now.

Ben has had his band Guitar Vs. Gravity for many years, it has gone through many incarnations.

the current (and solid!) lineup is as follows:
Ben Adrian - guitar, keyboards, vocals, etc
Stephen Pride - bass, whatever
David Shollenbarger - the drums

http://www.myspace.com/gvsg
http://www.feedbackloop.net/gvsg/

Upcoming shows include:
Sep 6 2008      9:00P    The Stork Club     Oakland, California
Oct 25 2008     9:00P   House of Shields     San Francisco, California

If you haven't already you should extend your hand of internet friendship to Ben and his Guitar vs. Gravity.

Guitar Vs. Gravity, now more band than ever!

Another long running Ben project is Cartographer, his usual one man high concept band. Although Cartographer isn't up and running as fullbore as Guitar vs. Gravity, "they" are probably still up for shows.
http://www.feedbackloop.net/cartographer/
http://www.myspace.com/cartographermusic

ALSO, ever the man of many hats, Ben has been playing drums in the live version of friends and former Replicator labelmates Truxton:
http://www.myspace.com/truxton

That is it for now, watch this space Monday, August 18th for further announcements.

Hello there,
I'm writing this message today to ask a favor of you.
We need your opinion, or rather, the great unwashed masses do.

See, here's the thing: In this wonderful internet age of ours, the avenues for distribution and exposure are so much more then they used to be.
The big problem is overcoming the signal to noise ratio. (a Replicator theme, coincidentally!)

So, here's what we'd like you to do... is write a review!
(or two, or 20... whatever!)

There is no doubt that Replicator fans are both smart and sexy, most are creative class and have strong and strident opinions, some are fantastic writers by trade, some just as a hobby, some are just damn smart.

You'll have to register for a login at each of these places, but even a few words, like: "Recommended if you like robots and breaking things!" is much, much, much appreciated and can help swing an undecided buyer.

So your mission if you choose to accept it, write reviews at these places:
Whangbar Province:
Amazon.com: Whangbar Amazon
cdbaby: Whangbar cdbaby
itunes: Whangbar itunes

Machines Will Always Let You Down:
Amazon.com: Machines Amazon
cdbaby: Machines cdbaby
itunes: Machines itunes

You Are Under Surveillance:

cdbaby: Surveillance cdbaby
itunes: Surveillance itunes

"" ep (out of print, digital only)
itunes: "" ep itunes

Winterval:
Amazon.com: Winterval Amazon
cdbaby: Winterval cdbaby
itunes: Winterval on itunes

thank you very much!
And expect a few more messages from our still dead band in the next week or so that should answer some questions out there as far as available merch and current and upcoming bands and projects.

Hi everybody, yes it's a message from a dead band.
We just wanted to let you know that, even though Replicator is gone, you can still have a taste of the final days.

Namely, your own copy of our very final release the Whangbar Province EP, put out by our lovely label Radio is Down.

It includes:
1) Baby, I Want to Terraform Your Planet (a tour favorite!)
2) Arthur Jermyn (A BABYLAND cover)
3) Barely Regal

There are a little less then 40 copies left, it's a hand assembled, hand stamped package (meaning each and everyone was hand assembled by at least 2 members of Replicator) and they include a full color poster that is a historical retrospective of our band through the lenses of some of the amazing photographers we've been lucky enough to have shoot us.

when they are gone, they are GONE!
No more will be made, limited edition... it will not exist in physical space anymore.
So if you are interested, buy yours today for the CHEAP, CHEAP price of $5.
http://radioisdown.com/catalog.htm
http://radioisdown.com/store.htm

You will receive one more message from Replicator before communication ends for good...We will probably be "garage sale-ing" the remainder of the merch we have left, so more on that soon, but for now... get Whangbar while you can as it will NOT last.

If you haven't seen them, there are some fantastic pictures of our final show here:

and here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pinball_mafia/2394426167/in/set-72157600099195865/

(if you have pictures, please send them to us!)

Also if you want to get a hold of a member of the band, it's probably best to contact them through their individual e-mails or myspace accounts, as this is (obviously!) not getting checked very often anymore

(from the liner notes of the Whangbar Province EP)

There’s something to be said for a terminus, closure, for having the guts to push the button and set the self destruct active. End it on top, before the inevitable slide into self parody and hackery. Oh, how I wish I had the power to make other bands do the same.

In a sense this band could not have existed at any other time, the end of the world always seemed right around the corner, yet things just kept grinding on in increasingly goofy and scary manner. Replicator arose during the era of the iPod, the internet, and when cell phones went from a novelty to a near necessity. Mediocrity and fear held sway, usually at the same time, and when we were written about we were called paranoid, and/or chaotic.

The fact of the matter is this band was always reflective of the world around us, albeit through our warped and runaway allegorical perspective. It wasn’t so much paranoia, as a cracked mirror and if we brought the chaos, it’s because the world itself did a pretty good job of bringing it too.

We were never the kind of band to follow a trend, or do what was popular, in fact our timing seemed to always be a bit off, and we never really offered what people wanted. Every once in awhile it was what they needed though, which is different.

Stubborn as a mule and making music just about as ugly, we always did our thing with 100% enthusiasm and intensity. If you were into it, great! But it existed without outside approval or desire, a shambling, spasmodic beast that dragged itself along without outside provocation. Flawed? Perhaps, but never insincere.

I never told people I "played in a band", I played in Replicator.

Not everybody got that, but it was an important distinction, as this band was a family and tried our hardest to be an uncompromising force of nature.  I feel absolutely overjoyed to have spent every second with these fine gentlemen, my brothers of different mothers, putting together something greater than the sum of its parts.

Look: We never fit anywhere easily, and in fact, the only places we did fit in are the places that we forged ourselves with the other ones that were the last ones picked. The freaks, nerds and weirdoes that didn’t fit in with the cool kids, but didn’t much give a damn either.  See, it turns out the cool kids were all insecure and really weren’t that cool anyway. Besides we outlasted most of them, and outclassed even more, so we won by default.

We had a good run; we far exceeded all our wildest expectations, and then some. We saw places we never would have seen otherwise, met people we never would have met otherwise, and had experiences that will last a lifetime, and make for some very funny anecdotes later in life. (Tragedy+Time=Comedy). We did our best to give back the ass kicking that music had given to us, and hopefully touched a few lives in the process.

Vans were broken, so were glasses. Relationships and credit wrecked, Hearing was damaged.

Good times were had.

that was alot of work, but they’re done:

My hands are very inky again.

Here’s a picture of Ben:

And here’s me with the "insert" poster front, the liner notes are in the back.
There are quotes about it, because we decided not to fold them into the tiny little cardboard box.
Very happy with them though.

6 hours to go!
