Hello Everyone,

We are back from our 5 day tour and we are road tested and mother approved. I was so motivated that I even made a Facebook fan page:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Story-of-the-Sea/95922390613?ref=nf

I have no idea what that is so big, or why this is now writing in bold, but we will go with it.  If you have always been a fan of our band, but wanted to express it on the interwebs, this is your big chance. Take the leap!

I will write some stories about our tour, and trust me there are stories, in a bit on our website so stay tuned yo.

Hello People,

We just wanted to drop you a line to let you all know what is going on in our world. It has been a busy month for us. We had some great shows at the Empty Bottle in Chicago, the Triple Rock in Minneapolis, and the Replay Lounge in Lawrence Kansas. We had a great time and it we were very lucky to hang out with some old friends and make some new ones too.

Unfortunately these were our last shows with our guitar player Damon Kalar. As many of you know, Damon recently had a daughter, Rowan, with his wife Tara. While the life of a rockstar may sound like a rip roaring good time, it does come with travel and a commitment of time that Damon could no longer give with his new family life. In many cases you can be a good, non paid, traveling musician or a good parent but rarely both. It is unfortunate for us, but Damon made the right choice. He is a fantastic musician and we wish him well in all his future endeavors.

So that is the bad news. The good news is that Andrew Elstner has agreed to do the last five dates of our already booked tour which includes St. Louis, Monroe LA, Oklahoma City, Wichita, and Kansas City(sorry for canceling East Coast, we’ll try to get out to you soon). You may know Andrew as the guitar and voice behind the St. Louis band Riddle of Steel. You may also know him from his role as B.A Baracus in the hit TV show “The A-Team” [citation needed]. We are grateful to Andrew for learning our songs and agreeing to be in a smelly van with us for 5 days. If you are in one of these cities, come on out and see us. I believe Andrew would….how does he say.. “Pity the fool” who doesn’t come out and see us with him on guitar.

As far as the future goes, we are looking to record soon and are working hard as a three piece to bring you the rock you crave at a price that doesn’t hurt your wallet. If you play guitar and/or keyboards don’t be afraid to talk to one of us. Since we all have grey hair, an older silverfox is preferred [citation needed].. We hope to see you at one of the shows and we’ll keep you posted on happenings in the future.

Hey gang!

We just  got back from a pretty awesome time on the road.
First Baba Louie's in De Pere (Green Bay) and then the Union Rock Yards in Chicago!

In Green Bay, our muffler fell off the van.  Ian had to buy a reciprocating saw to finish getting it off before we could hit the road again!

How hardcore is that!

Not as much as this:

Holy cow! Monday night we played in MPLS at 7th street, which, we all agree, was bad ass.  Thanks to everyone who got a chance to come out and see the shows.

Chicago fans and friends, we'll be back there in November!  Come out and check us out on the 13th at Ronnys, then get in your car and see us in Joliet on the 14th.

We also just placed the order for our new album, Lunar Co., and we'll be putting it our January of 2009!

Viva la Doubleshot!

We've posted a new tune called "The Beast". It's available on iTunes and can be purchased at the Cultural Society website. http://www.culturalsociety.org/ The Cultural Society released the song on a one-sided, clear vinyl, split 12" along with incredible songs by the incredible bands Self Evident, The Million and Hail Architect. "The Beast" is also the 5th track on our new record "Lunar Co.", which comes out so soon! More on that later. Here's a PSA the city of Edina MN made on water conservation. It has the song in it and is informative and funny to boot.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjaVB7F9AgM Enjoy.

We've posted the song that we contributed to the "For Callum" CD. The song's called West Bank and it's one we recorded for Enjoying Fire. It ultimately didn't make it on to that record because we knew we would want some tracks to go towards things specifically like this comp. We recommend picking one up if you haven't already not only because it's an awesome collection of songs for a great cause but because there aren't all that many left. Here's a link.

Hello All,

It has been quite a while since we last wrote.  There is a ton going on in our world. As many of you know, we added a new guitar player and have played 4 shows with him as of last Friday. We wanted to make a big hullabaloo out of this announcement complete with a parade and a special red carpet unveiling, but before we knew it we were playing shows and that ship had sailed. We also had a hard time finding room in our budget for both a red carpet and a parade, and since we couldn't have both, we decided to do nothing at all…..until now!

His name is Damon Kalar and he is super awesome. He has played in many bands before ours, most recently Harp & Finial. Not only is Damon a wiz behind the fretboard, he also plays keyboards, bass(in his other band Kill Me Kare Bear),a mean Halo 3, and loves Uncle Ray's BBQ chips. He has also been helping us record our new album and we couldn't be happier with what has been accomplished by Damon both musically and technically in the short time since he joined.

The addition of Damon came after we had jammed with about 15 people over the course of the last year. We had always written songs for a four piece band and loved the idea of filling out our songs with a fourth person. There are songs that we have in our catalogue that simply cannot be played the way we hear them without four people.  After playing these songs and others with Damon we knew right away that it just "clicked" and we had found our fourth player.

We would like to take this opportunity to give a heartfelt thanks to all the other musicians that we had played with over the months before Damon. Not only did these people learn our songs with little notice, they were patient with us, and most of all they let us hear our songs with that extra something that we knew we were missing as a three piece. We are extremely grateful to these people, you know who you are!

In other Story of the Sea news, we are done recording our new album. The tapes will be sent to J. Robbins at the end of this week and the mixing will begin. We couldn't be more excited about working with J. If you don't know his name, I am sure you know the bands he has been in and worked with...(for a list go here: http://www.jrobbins.net/work/index.htm. We expect the record to come out early 2008, so look for more details as the date gets closer.

We are playing some shows in October that we are excited about…..check it out yo…

October 12th…the Uptown Bar in Minneapolis…. with Mystery Palace, These Modern Socks, Ice Palace, and Toma the 3rd.

October 19th….Reggies in Chicago….with Sequoia and Big Whiskey

October 20th….The Record Bar in Kansas City….with The Belated and Oh Blessed Thought

October 23rd….The 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis….with Appleseed Cast

Thanks so much for all the support and we hope to see you all at these shows!!

cheers,
