Things get dirty when Larry Tee is involved. Add transgender icon Amanda Lepore to the mix and well, let's just say that I had an eye-opening experience trying to find pictures of her. Never being one to hide her voluptuous figure and never being one to hide his skills at bubbling electro, this track has plenty to soundtrack a debaucher's night out. Their stories are so rich, I'd love a chance to interview them sometime. Remember when "electroclash" was the newest, tackiest rage and the scandal that ensued when Larry Tee branded the name as his own? Now that it's blown over, I bet he's got some stuff to say. And this girl--not even the wikipedia entry has her date of birth.

Tami Hart!!! Having released albums under her own name on Mr. Lady Records in 2000 and 2002, then starting a new band The Winning Looks in 2005, and now with her solo/side project Making Friendz, you'd think there would be an abundance of information on ye ol' Google. But there isn't. The allmusic.com listing only has her Mr. Lady Records posted with no reviews, she is only mentioned on Wikipedia, and her band pages have little in the way of pics. In fact, googling her gets you hits for the Mr. Lady URL's, and if you click on them you get the empty domain ads for available addresses (sniffle). The worst part about this whole thing is that if you go and listen to these records and these myspace demos, there is a consistent pop sensibility that runs through her many faces. Beating Scout Niblett to the punch at channeling Kurt Cobain with her first records, showing folk how to be punk with the Winning Looks and dark and soulful hiss with Making Friendz, it's obvious that Tami Hart NEEDS to write music. The Winning Looks are set to release a debut EP, although there is little information. Their page says it was recorded by Kathleen Hanna. While we wait, Tami has made her Making Friendz songs available for download. Here are two of them so you don't have to waste time clicking elsewhere. But when you fall in love with the songs, go to Tami's page and tell her how much you love her!!

It's always a nice surprise when the indie rock follows through on its promise to keep us interested. Like swimming among all the Vampire Weekends and Battles, scouring for some hope that douche-baggery hasn't leaked into all of world's crevices, you find Jennifer Moore. Freshly leaving the band Voxtrot, she puts on her own outfit with Yellow Fever, a trio whose jangle and hooks leave a bouncy taste in your mouth. Good for her, good for us. Looking forward to more. Here are some mp3's for your delight:

August 26, 2007 - Sunday
this is a blog after all.

remember when blogging was new and everyone was having conversations like,

you: "I didn't know you had so much anxiety about your women's studies final."

someone else: "didn't you read my blog?"

people just assumed that because they were keeping a public diary, others would be immediately drawn to it for the implied juiciness. anyway, in spirit with those days, i'm going to write some deep shit.

Queerfest Midwest was just amazing. It makes it so worth it that with little personal experience, Think Pink Radio, Chill Magazine and R&P were able to pull off a music and art festival free of any major drama. it was completely absent of schedule, technical, and emotional malfunctions. what made it sweeter was that the night before I had received yet another letter from a bigoted family member asking me to stay away from her children because I am gay. for sure, the proud queers at QFM were the perfect antidote for hate.

Almost everyone involved became so on a hand shake and not to sound all mushy but a new family was born. a new Chicago family. I think there were people who came together for the first time and are now friends. there were old friends that met up, had a good experience, and I get fuh-klempt whenever I think about it. there are so many people to thank and instead of making a list, we'll just call or write if we have your contact information.

the biggest lesson learned was simply about team work. QFM was so much effort and time, and it took a village people to raise this gay ass baby. aside from the main organizers, there were volunteers, local businesses, and friends with all kinds of helpful hands.

most importantly, there was monumental talent at the pulaski park field house. I saw some amazing performances, compelling photographs, bizarre images and let me just say there was no shortage of response from fest attendees. i saw romance, tears, enthusiastic youth, flirtation, giggles and dancing. oh, i have to mention the couples dance that happened during Actor Slash Model's "Soapbox Waltz." that was fucking rad. also Gina Young's tender solo set. AND the Ex-Members taking everything off of the stage and playing on the floor. their song "Wishes" is stuck in my head.

we're already talking about next year. we're cuckoo.
