rarely am i still for long enough to blog these recent months... so much has transpired since my last update, but i'd love to squeeze in a few bullet points for anyone interested...
*I won Nine West's Vintage Voices National Songwriting Competition in September! The prize for winning was to record the song w/ Sony/ATV in NYC, have an ad in the December 2009 issue of Lucky Magazine, receive a bunch of free clothes/shoes from Nine West, participate in a "making of" the song video, have the song released on Hickory Records (Sony/ATV's in house label), distributed via RED Distribution, and featured on iTunes in January 2010 ! Quite a sweet little deal for sitting in front of my computer for 60 seconds and singing an original song!
I had so much fun in NY a few weeks ago, and made amazing connections. Recording w/ Mike Mangini (2 time Grammy winning producer) and Danny Strick (president of Sony/ATV) was RAAAD! I was tempted to move back east, but remembered why I left when it got down into the 30's one night while I was there. Can't wait to share the new song, "Meant To Be", in January when it's featured on iTunes!
*TODAY I got my first 10 copies of a compilation CD of which I'm a part, called, "Song for Food". This CD features 12 emerging artists (my contribution is a new song I wrote called, "Nobody"). 50% of the proceeds go directly to food banks across America. The CD makes a great stocking stuffer. So cool! check it out at: http://www.songforfood.com
More to come.... as always, thank you for your continued encouragement and support! ~Jasmne

A "Somewhere in Between"
Jasmine Commerce
Self-released
A gorgeous voice and a nice turn at writing her own songs give San Diego's Jasmine Commerce a leg up on most others setting out to make a living in music, but those aren't even the most notable elements of her debut EP, "Somewhere in Between." What grabs your attention first and foremost is the larger-than-life personality that just pours from all five songs on the release.
Commerce has a charisma that infuses every note she sings, whether it's the bubblegum pop of "Fool to Fall," the contemporary French street music of "Ne Jouez Pas Avec Mon Coeur," the edgy folk of "The Book" or the pure pop of the title track. It's a bit like listening to a Cher or a Dean Martin (or the Jonas Brothers for the younger set): you're buying into the singer as much as the song. In her singing, there is a warm, welcoming presence that makes you want to hang out with Commerce, to listen to the next song and the next after that.
That rich, lower-register voice doesn't hurt any, though, either. And the production by Escondido's Jeff McCullough is crushed velvet for the ears ---- every instrument stands out in pristine purity.
With five strong songs and the surest touch at singing heard in this county in some time, this debut EP promises further efforts from Commerce.
Jasmine Commerce performs at ArtWalk at 12:30 p.m. Sunday in San Diego's Little Italy neighborhood.

Hi friends, If you've been driving down the road on a Sunday afternoon with the radio on, you may have heard "Acoustic Cafe" playing. Acoustic Cafe is an amazing radio program syndicated to over 75 FM and internet radio stations in the USA and worldwide. I was just chosen as their April 2009 "One to Watch" Artist of the month, and my song, "Somewhere In Between" will be played on the show all over the world! :) So exciting. To find out where you can hear it. log onto www.acafe.com and click "Stations". Or, just play the show (April 13-19, segment #3) on the box with the music player. :)
Here is a bit about the show: Acoustic Café is a two hour weekly radio show, and an independent media production of RDR Radio, LLC. The program is produced and hosted by Rob Reinhart, who started the show in 1995. Find out a bit more history here.
Each week, listeners around the globe tune in to Acoustic Café to hear the latest from today’s great songwriting talents. It’s hard to put a definitive label on Acoustic Café’s music selections. After all, a good song is a good song… any individual set of music could contain a bit of country, rock, blues, folk, pop… and more!
In addition to classic songwriters like Dylan, Mitchell, Young, Cash, Browne, Prine etc., Acoustic Café wants to bring as many newer talents to the table as possible. That’s the best description we can conjure… now, use the player to hear this week’s program. Enjoy.

Current mood: chipper
this time of year i start itching...literally and figuratively...the relatively arid southern california climate becomes bone dry in the fall (yeah, yeah, i know it drizzled last week...but that's all it was), and i wake up nightly to slather eucerin on my ashy legs. but mainly, i start itching to get home. home for me is virginia, and each autumn i ache knowing i'm again missing the beauty of my favorite season turning. the sky is moody and mercurial in virginia this time of year...a distant golden sun can be snuffed out in a moment by ominous storm clouds, which roll in and create a wonderful sense of tension and release (either the sun poking its glowing head back out, or a dismal rain, which all the children hope will crystalize and stick)...i remember as a child (before the age of the internet) calling over and over again, 936-1212 to listen to the latest weather forecast in washington wondering, 'has it fallen below 32 degrees yet?', 'i wonder if they'll cancel school just for ice?'...
here in california i wake to the same cloudless blue sky winking through a slit in my curtains every morning, i take the dog out, perhaps throwing as much as a flannel shirt over my pjs if it's particularly "chilly", i drink my yerba matte, and nothing changes, save the hour the sun goes down. i always wanted this, or so i thought, and i realize even as i write that i'm a fool to paint this picture as anything but what most would consider perfect, but having spent over 25 years with autumn, i find myself missing her terribly this time of year. i just finished a song called, "october" in her honor. :) anyhow, i just booked my ticket (always too late to get the good deals!) and i've started daydreaming about evening strolls through the snowy woods near my mom's house, the tall leather boots i'll wear in downtown d.c. (which look so much more appropriate than when i don them on a 70 degree day in san diego), Christmas decorations and the way they just look RIGHT in the snow...and above all, time with the ones i love the most. i think i'll head to new york to see a handful of friends and maybe play a show, and by early January I'll have had my fill of the cold, remember why i moved west again, and be ready to head back. i have decided not to book any more public shows until the new year...i need to rejuvenate. but i have some pretty intense new years resolutions which i hope to share with you as they come to fruition...:) things are lookin up! enjoy the holidays and realize you've got everything you need, you just don't know it! :) blessings.....

TODAY i love being an indie. and as napoleon dynamyite's older brother Kip once put it, I LOVE TECHNOLOGY. :)
seriously, podcasts and live streaming radio is where it's at folks. for those of you who are sick of listening to the same 8 songs over and over again on many radio stations (unfortunately sirius and xm sometimes can get that way as well), welcome to the 21st century of entertainment...podcasts!
the dj's are WAAAAAY cool and truly about the music and the artists creating it. i was amazed that i uploaded my songs to the podsafe music network, and in 24 hours have gotten love from two different shows.
here is a link to one of the shows called "Accidental Hash" in Boston, MA. Host C.C. Chapman is the bomb!!! check it out at: http://m.podshow.com/media/212/episodes/123938/accidenthash-123938-08-27-2008.mp3.
i'll try to get the direct link to the other podcast, but its called "The Homeshow" and it's based in nor cal. their main website is: www.homeshow.com, and it's show 128. they played "fool to fall" as the first song...then they said i was 21 years old, which made me love them even more! ;) lol.
also, i had a wonderful live phone interview with Lon Radio 107.3 in the Netherlands, which i will get a link for in the next week if you missed it.
INDIE'S unite!!!
blessings and thanks for your support! ~JASMINE
