I am traveling in Asia. After 24 hours of travel we enjoyed Japanese beer and whiskey. Only a little bit was perfect. Sometimes in another country I can just let things that feel stuck in my heart and mind escape. They move out of me through my mouth and are free. I have more to share soon! Off to Vietnam

Patrice Pike Band Newsletter 2/2009

Hello Lovers of Music, Poetry and all things happenin',

It's feeling like spring down here in Austin Texas and that means sun, rain, less clothes, swimming and of course, South by south West is on it's way. Good Times. Even Bill Clinton is coming to town this weekend. Nevertheless, I'm leaving town for a few days and heading up to Oklahoma City for a sweet show in the Duo formwith my trusty guitarist Matthew Johnson. We are also playing a semi-private reservations only show West of Dallas Fort Worth for Valentine's Night $20 Dinner and Music abounds...

The following week we are playing on Wednesday and Thursday we are in Arkansas two places I love to be. Fayetteville and Little Rock are stomping grounds that are always a good time and I love my good friends out there. Ya'll come on out for the shows. Next stop for Friday and Saturday, the 20th and 21st are in Memphis for Folk Alliance conference. Songwriters from all over the world come to Memphis to play in a big melting potfor each other and fans.

I can't forget to tell you that, backing up a bit, Thursday the 12th I'll be at the Saxon Pub with my fantastic sister Joy Davis and then again on the last Thursday of the month on the 26th. Then the 27th I am at Poor David's Pub with Ginger Leigh. Matthew will be with me there too, followed by two full band shows at the Mucky Duck in Houston Texa s. Don't miss the full band. There is an dearly show and a later show, so get your reservations now for your preference!!!

March 1st, please check the Momo's website for details on a fundraiser for none other than the lovely Kate Tomich.
Kate is one of the owners of Momo's and she had reconstructive surgery on her knee recently. This show is a huge bill of great artists coming together to support Kate's recovery. We will play a short set at 7:30

March 4th I will be playing a Duo show in Kerrville Texas. I am being featured for Women's History Month at  Shriner's. More details coming up! This is a fundraiser and our furst appearance other than the folk festival in Kerrville.

We start our Wednesday's at the Mucky Duck on the 11th and then full band show at Momo's on the 13th. Friday the 13th has always been a lucky day for me, actually. The 14th we have the full band at Poor David's Pub.
The next week is SXSW and our official showcase is Saturday night at midnight at Momo's along with Dan Dyer and Suzanna Choffel among other great Austin artists.

We will wrap up the month with Saturday the 28th at Momo's we will debut some new songs at this show.

We are getting a lot of reqests to come out to the midwest  and west coast as well as the east coast, which is a long time coming for us. We are planning dates starting in summer for more touring outside of Texas. However, please support our Texas and nearby Texas shows as much as you can, as we are staying close by to develop the new material for the new record. If you know folks who live in places where we are playing, please spread the word and get them out to see us.

YOUR SUPPORT MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE. THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING LIVE ORIGINAL MUSIC AND BE SURE TO CHECK OUT:

Thanks a million!!!

ALL OF OUR DREAMS
AND THE PARADISE SCENES
AND THE CROOKED SCHEMES AND ALL THE THINGS ON THE TV SCREENS
AND THE GRASSES BLADES
WAVE AT THE MOTORCADES
DID JACKIE KNOW SHE WOULD LOSE EVERYTHING
THAT MEANT ANYTHING
THROUGH THE CAMERA EYE
WE HAVE WATCHED THE HOPE DIE
A THOUSAND TIMES
STRAIGHT UP THE MIDDLE
WE LET THE WHOLE GAME GO
AND WE STILL HAVENT CAUGHT THE BAD GUYS
WASH YOUR FEET AND YOU HOLD THIS SPACE AND YOU TRUST YOUR HEART
AND THE FEAR ERASES
LISTEN TO THE WARMTH OF THE BASS BABE
AND LET YOUR GARDEN GROW

IN THIS NIGHT WHAT IS BETTER
WE LOVE THE LIGHT
BUT WE KEEP CHOOSING THE LATTER
I CAN FELL WHAT I NEED TO DO
BUT I'M SO AFRAID TO COUNT ON YOU
CAN I COUNT ON YOU

WICKED AND WISE THE MONSTER LIES
THE TRUTH ERODES AS THE BUTTERCUPS DIE
FRAGILE AND BRITTLE
WE LET THE HEARTBREAK COME AND STILL WE HAVE THE NERVE TO ASK WHY
WASH YOUR FEET AND YOU HOLD THIS SPACE AND YOU TRUST YOUR HEART
AND THE FEAR ERASES
LISTEN TO THE WARMTH OF THE BASS BABE
AND LET YOUR GARDENS GROW

IN THIS NIGHT WHAT IS BETTER
WE LOVE THE LIGHT
BUT WE KEEP TAKING THE LATTER
I CAN FEEL WHAT I NEED TO DO
AND WHAT I NEED TO DO
I NEED TO KNOW THAT I CAN COUNT ON YOU

CAN I COUNT ON YOU, YEAH.....

Hello Everyone,

I've been doing some recording and getting ready to
start a new year, of course. 2009

this year has been a trip, no?

we have seen so much and it will be interesting to see what the coming cycles will bring.
I wrote CAN I COUNT ON YOU earlier this year watching so many things that reminded me
of things that happened before I was born that effected me and so many of our lives
here on Earth. Important ones that come to mind are the vietnam war, jackie O's sad face on the day of her great loss that shocked the world, martin luther king jr. and all the folks risking thier lives for civil rights, and the revolution and a culture shift of radical progressives around 1970 to name a few . I used to think I was born late, in a time that has been filled with a lack of action and people falling asleep in the western world, forgetting how amazing the natural world is and what our potential is as a species and as intelligent beings. This year, however, we got to see a massive cultural and political movement change the face of how things have worked for a long time. At least for now it has. I hope and pray in my own unique way it is only a beginning.

the words of the president-elect Obama at the beginning of his speech said this,

""If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.

"It's the answer told by lines that stretched around schools and churches in numbers this nation has never seen; by people who waited three hours and four hours, many for the very first time in their lives, because they believed that this time must be different; that their voice could be that difference.

"It's the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled - Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always will be, the United States of America.

I consider myself more of a citizen of the world than simply an American, but I cried tears of Joy and Release that night with a lot of my friends for a lot of reasons. I even was sad for my friends who disagree with Obama's election because they are afraid like many of us have been for a long time. I really just want us to truly come together to do the right thing for the least harm and most good.

I just wanted to share that with you because I feel it and I haven't shared in a Blog on the Myspace in a while, partly because I have been working hard like so many of you and hoping for a better tomorrow by being the best person I can be now. I haven't been this intimate and intense in a blog on this sight either and some might think I'm being too heavy. Really
I'm just speaking my mind tonight from my room in my sweet little house in Austin. Do you hear me?

On a fun note, there are some folks building an animated version of me as AVATAR Patrice Pike. It's coming out after the new year. More on that soon. SO FUN!!!

I will be reaching out to you all more in the coming weeks and months with ideas of
how to share with all of you on a deeper level, some serious and some chill and funny. I know we don't all agree about all this stuff, but I want to give those of you who care to know a little more insight on my thoughts and feelings on life along with the new music and videos I'll be sharing with you in the coming year.

Most of all I'll be straight up. I need your support and I am looking at ways to give you
real, honest, organic, thoughtful, passionate offerings in exchange for your continued support. KEEP EYES AND EARS OPEN FOR THE NEW STUFF, and
T H A N K Y O U!!!!!!

Love and Light,

Patrice

Jacob Favela
2008 Grace Foundation Scholarship recipient.

This is the new music video of Jacob Favela's "Forgiven," with Jacob performing his song.
The choreography is by Meosha Adams.
In it Jacob tells the story of his mom's sordid life and the results it had on her family.
In the end he forgives her.

UPDATE: Since the production of this video, it has made the rounds of social service agencies and folks invested in the future of abused children.
Because of this Jacob was invited to a leadership conference in Wasington D.C. where he saw George Bush speak and met with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama;
he has spoken to another national leadership conference in Denver; met Elton John, Lance Armstrong and Andy Roddick
at a function where he was honored as the CPS Youth of the Year for Texas..

Hello Everyone, Patrice here.

Sending you love and reminders, and hoping to see you all when the band and I are close by. This month is going to be interesting with the launch of the Russian spacecraft that Richard Garriot is traveling in to the International Space Center carrying my digitized DNA, along with many other eople who have been chosen to participate in Project Immortality. The launch is October 12th.

Safe travels, Richard, and thank you. Google Patrice Pike DNA for more on that!!!

Saturday night we are playing in Austin and it is so go to come home. It's an ACL after-party downtown at Momo's and the club is looking and sounding better than ever. The band and I have new songs to play for you and we have been having a blast getting inside these tunes and playing them all over the mid west and west coast this summer. If you aren't going to ACL, come and check out the early bands and enjoy the sweet cooling weather of the season change on the deck!

Matthew and I are doing our shows every Wednesday in Houston at the Mucky Duck. We will be bringing the band one week to record both the duo and the full band in a semi acoustic so keep your eye on the updates. We are thinking of putting the recording out as a fundraiser for Hurricane Ike relief. Let us know your feedback on that idea.

Thanks to everyone who have been enjoying our pay what you can early shows at the Duck!

October 11th we are back in Denton at Dan's Silverleaf which is always a great sounding show. October 17th we are in San Angelo at the Steel Penny Pub.

October 18th we are returning to the Boerne Festival of Art and Music. SO MUCH FUN and a great place to take a road trip to.

October 24th we are at Poor David's Pub. I really hope our friends in the Dallas area will come out and support us. Tons of parking by the new location and we need your support in Dallas. Carlos always makes it sound fantastic and the last show there with Ginger was amazing. Come on back to the new location of the first establishment I ever played in.

Finally we are throwing a Halloween party at Momo's on October 31st. Come let your freak flag fly and enjoy the people watching. Also we are going to Galveston for the Biker Rally on November 1st to entertain and support the area post Hurricane Ike. Captain Jack's beach bar lives again. Come Ride.

Fierce Love and Bright Light,

Patrice
