So the past few days have been so up and down....i'm talking for myself. Rehersal last night was good....i got a major headache out of nowhere but finished the whole set. Well i dont know why im writing now but i just felt like i needed to.....I'm currently at work....oh yeah ....about taking things for granted that is why i got the sudden urge to write. I know i take alot of things for granted and i just want to keep myself in check:) Know what i mean....right on! For example i wake up everyday......and i dont' wake up alone..i have a peacful home in brooklyn...(a blessing in itself to have a roof over my head...our heads).... the beautiful sunlight coming through our windows....the tonal sounds of the radio drowning out the chilly silent draft.....the smile and sleepy eyes of BJ....a bathroom to use when in need....a kitchen to cook and create....a job to go to ....a home to go to.....the list can go on and on....i just stepped away from the computer to restock some water.....so i lost track and now i am totally a.d.d.-ing.......and on top of that my friend was talking to me at the same time so i was trying to pay attention to her.....didnt catch but a few words about her music production.....( you can check her out at myspace.com/stinemusic......) i really need to work on that to...the whole listening...hahah!! lalalalalalallaallalalallaaaaaaaa.....we have a show tomorrow and im excited! I love you all! I also am so grateful for my girls in the band.....that to i do take for granted at times.....i really need to work on the whole patience thing and really looking at what is going on in the inside and also trying not to obsess over thoughts allowing my mind to mess with me.....focus, focus ,.....white......light.....white light.....:) have a beautiful and blessed day!

with love,

hello there....my name is Sora and i am writing my very first blog ever!!! So the weather is crazy as hell.....ive been sober for 3 years and 3 months...tommorow:) Life is pretty freaking good.....i got a roof over my head clothes on my back and food in my stomach. I am so blessed in so many ways and i am forever grateful to those who all have loved me for who i am , what i was, and who i became. I love all the girls in the band and it's so amazing how well we work together when we were just thrown together by two brilliant minds......by the way my writing is horrible, my grammar is not as good as it should be....but i got my heart and that is enough to right a plethora of run-ons, fragments and misuse words bc i know you will understand and capture the emotions of my writings.......it's all about the love.....LOVE>>>>>>LOVE......have a blessed day:)-----sora-an..

ps

if no one told you that they loved you today... I LOVE YOU!

The Girls Were Hot Hot HOT!!!

December 19th, 2006

Jesus, they were so good tonight!

I'm talking about Girls Don't Cry — see previous post (right below this one).

Ever since I sent the Casio Exilim through a washing and drying — not once, but twice! — I've been without a digital camera. Well, tonight I picked one up. For ten bucks! And, as you will see, I got what any intelligent person would have expected from a ten-buck camera. But me, I wasn't so intelligent. I thought just maybe ten dollars still had some real value.

Fat bloody chance!

Herewith are all the photos the camera captured:

Stage setup
Stage setup

Caitlin
Caitlin (can anyone besides me tell?)

Eww
I think this might be the Girls on stage… yeesh

On stage
I just don't know! That's part of the skating rink, though… I think.

Guitar
Well, I can see a guitar…

Guitar2
The Girls tuning up on stage. Can anyone but me tell?

Blur
The blur on the left is Caitlin, the one on the right is Hannah.

Blurs
Those blurs are some of the Girls on stage, tuning…

More blurs
Three of the Girls reduced to blurs…

Even blurrier
Two of the Girls tuning on stage, reduced to blurs…

WTF
I Just Have No Bloody Idea!

Blurssss
Really, that's four Girls on stage tuning. Caitlin all the way on the left. The others are headless blurs…

Hannah
I swear to God, that's supposed to be Hannah! She will kill me for this!

Blurriers
What is supposed to be Girls on stage is actually a space-time continuum!

Caitlin face
If you lift up your monitor, tilt it at the right angle and squint, you'll see that this is a picture of Caitlin!

Liz
Oh my God. I've decapitated Liz!!

Sora
Jesus! Someone nearly recognizable! Sora!

Hannah2
I cut off Hannah's head too!

This is so humiliating!!

So aside from covering the fantastic performance of Girls Don't Cry tonight (they really went into orbit when they did What Do You Think Of Me Now? and stayed there till the end!), all of you are also getting an object lesson in the revenge effect of Buying Cheeep: Do Not Do It!

Sorry, Girls!! You were really great tonight. You are all going to be Really Huge Stars.

But my alleged photos have turned all of you into Really Big Blurs.

Sorry, Girls! Sorry Caitlin, Hannah, Liz, Rachael, and Sora!

What a revoltin' development!

(FYI: This is very similar to the camera I have. Probably the same damned thing, with a restyled body. I wish I had read these comments before buying! At least now you know. Stay Away From It!)

Girls Don..t Cry @ The Bitter End 11/20/06
November 21st, 2006

Full Disclosure: I went to the legendary Bitter End last night expecting to pay to see the Girls. Instead, I was comped and got in free. That was one of the nicest things ever done for me! Thanks, Harold!

So the soon-to-be-Monster-Hit group Girls Don..t Cry appeared for a third time at The Bitter End.

And the place was packed.

I despaired of getting a seat, then a table opened up right in front of the stage and I got it. I sat alone for the entire set! (I guess my facial expression these days tends towards Welcome to the Anti-Social!)

The Girls were following some chi-chi songwriting/singing workshop of some sort that I didn..t want to hear (all I saw through the window were, yawn, acoustic guitars and people playing them while, yawn, being seated!). So the Girls had to set up their instruments from scratch.

Wow. I thought the back of a high-end PC was a mass of cables. It..s nothing compared to all the wires the Girls have to hook up! Microphones, synths, guitars, amps. And the drum set. And once plugged in, there..s all this adjusting to do to get them in the feel-good position. And the guitars have to be tuned. It was a lot of work! Imagine having to set up maybe ten PCs .. and then network them (Macintosh owners, with their unfair simplicity advantage, don..t get to play this game!). At one point, I saw a power strip plugged into another power strip!

Then it was discovered that Rachael..s main synth had died. They had to use another synth. Rachael..s synth is .. well, now was .. about 4-feet long. Its replacement was a six-foot aircraft carrier! That it didn..t tilt and fall or collapse the stand even during vigorous playing was a spectacle in itself!

There were the Girls:

Hannah (guitar) removing her long-sleeved top (she had a sleeveless one underneath!), because she always works up a sweat during a gig.

Sora (guitar) hanging off to the side, looking mysterious and cool (she can..t help it!).

Rachael (keyboards) treating everyone to a six-inch circular view of her right knee beneath her jeans (and it was cold last night!).

Liz (drums) with a bouquet of pretty flowers resting atop her bass drum (hmmm..!).

And Caitlin (bass guitar) hanging off at the other side, looking shy as usual (it..s a trick!).

Ah, this is what I..d been wanting to hear for several weeks. I..d missed two of their past shows.

They blasted that place!

In-between songs, Hannah mentioned their myspace page (with Liz pointing out she personally had three of them!), and Sora nearly got away with telling two of her trademark Bad Jokes (someone knew the punchline of the second one!).

Hannah donned sunglasses during Frankie Is A Chick .. and promptly forgot the song..s lyrics! (Or at least she claimed she did.) As usual, she tried to collapse the stage with her foot stomping. (Does she secretly want to do drums?)

Liz .. who actually does do the drums .. was a Force of Nature. She makes it look so easy too. Liz: make it look hard! It sounds like it..s hard. (All right you lot reading this, heads out of the gutter!)

Sora with opening lead guitar and vocals on If I Could Be You instantly switches from being cool to red hot.

Rachael and her keyboard have a rest during the opening verses of As We Go On.

Caitlin adding to the fantastic vocal harmony of Beautiful Thoughts .. wherein the Girls crush every single ..girl..s band.. that ever existed and ever will exist. It is something that must be experienced.

I was told three Great Things about the Girls:

1) They will not be doing any covers for their debut album. When I heard doing covers was a possibility, I got very cranky. The Girls have a Sound. It shouldn..t be tainted by doing songs other group are well-known for. (I will admit, however, to at one point suggesting that if a cover had to be done, the Girls would do a hell of job on The Smiths.. How Soon Is Now).

2) Two of the Girls are pianists.

3) Three of the Girls play sax!

Those last two open up some very intriguing possibilities. I keep thinking of what ABBA did with piano. What would a piano be like in the hands of the Girls? And sax, well, damn, they..ll blow out the windows when they play!

There is, however, one thing I..ve grown to just hate about seeing the Girls live in person: it..s over too soon!

With my dinky el-cheapo jWin MP3 player, I can have the Girls singing in my ears for hours (and I have! .. and yes, you should be jealous!). On stage, it..s 9 songs, about an hour, and it..s all over til the next time. I can..t say, ..Wait! I..d like to hear each of those songs five more times!..

Anyway, if I did tell the Girls that, I..d probably get killed by them.

But it..d be a great way to go!

For prior coverage and past mentions of the Girls, see the Categories sidebar .. they have their own Category!

Well, we've had a lot going on the past few months since we've posted a blog. We've since played about a million shows (including AdRock, an advertising convention party put together by Garfish Productions and Island Def Jam, where we played with Gavin Degraw, Under the Influence of Giants, Nine Days, Chris Barron, Damone, etc, etc!). We've recorded the rhythm section parts for our demo all over again with new gear and some help from another audio engineer (Thanks Jeremy!). We've fit our entire drumset into Rachael's Dodge Neon. Needless to say, the past few months have been pretty eventful.

There are some promising new things on the horizon for us; for one, we are recording a song that's going to be used for World Wrestling Entertainment (the former WWF!). We're also planning another photoshoot for the next few weeks or so, and our girlsdontcry.com is in the works: we own the domain, now its just a matter of getting all the information up there.

But probably the biggest thing is that we have a new partner on our team, Ross. He's going to be working with Richard and Harold on production and booking and all that good stuff, and we're all really excited to have lots of new ideas brought into the project.

So that's basically the news update, there's a lot more to say but I spent the entire afternoon finishing up the layout and everything, so I'm about done sitting on myspace!

"In a crowded world
It's hard to be a star..."

Ain't that the truth. But not hard to be, perhaps, a star-fish? Five women strong, our heroines venture courageously on, enduring many a victory and hardship alike including the first Manhattan appearance at The Bitter End, Bryant Park's illustrious "Fashion Week", Staten Island Mall's hit "Fashion Jam" music festival, and Tuesday night's performance at Arlene's Grocery. Oh, and not to mention mononucleosis; we can all agree that one slammed us a little!

Point is, our name and rep is spreading like wild fire and all the hard work is paying off!

We all had a lot of transitions coming into the new season. Rachael and Caitlin are back at school and had to move into new homes, Liz and I both moved as well, and meanwhile Sora acquired new roommates. Lots of shuffle on the homefront...sort of like Musical Homes! I mean, we are musicians...come on, that's at least KIND OF clever!...eehh, I tried.

MOVING on! We survived the shuffle, I (Hannah) started a new day job, and we continue to rehearse at least twice per week on top of 1 or 2 shows each week as well. It's a hard gig for an electronic rock band; there is a LOT of equipment to be schlepped back and forth. But every time we set foot on stage together and fire up the first song we all know straight down to our cores that it's totally worth it. We have such a great chemistry and such a great time with each other on stage!

We did another radio interview on the Joey Reynolds Show which was a HUGE success. Unfortunately, the night we were originally scheduled for the interview got canceled when I left my guitar in the trunk of the cab we all rode down there in. Alas! Frequent daily calls to all precincts brought no information on my beloved Memphis acoustic/electric guitar (signed by the Minister of Culture of Brazil!). If you see spot a Nigerian taxi driver playing it in the street, do examine the face of it for the "Hot Stuff" dragon sticker and Brazillian signature. Then calmly approach the man, remove the guitar from his hands, and brisquely bop him over the head with it before fleeing to Queens to deposit my baby into my arms! The painful part was truly the case; inside a zippered pocket held 6 years of my most coveted writing. But who am I kidding! I play in an amazing rock band in New York City! Life is pretty durn good.

Now tensions rise just like the gas prices; two of us gals have vehicles and most of our gig money goes toward fueling those equipment-schleppers. If anyone is looking to donate a van or other large vehicle...hehe, DO shoot us an email! Afterall, it'll be famous soon and you could say it was yours once.

Other news! Gavin DeGraw will playing with us along with several other headlining bands (Fallout Boy perhaps? Stay tuned to find out!!) the night of October 24th at Mercury Lounge. The event is the annual BOARD SUMMIT, a huge international advertising convention.

So much time and so little to do. Wait! Strike that! Reverse it!

So in the meantime...

"I've gotta keep my cool..
I work so hard!" -Stand Back

With love and music, more soon!

Via the the Nokia 770 (now downgraded to the *second*
biggest piece of shit known to man; new titleholder is
the Sony UX micro-PC):

I had the great pleasure of hearing a set of songs
performed live by a new all-girl band that I think are
going to be bigger than the Go-Gos and The Bangles
combined. For one, they are better musicians. For
two, they harmonize better. For three, *every* song
they played I loved (which I can't say for the Go-Gos
and The Bangles, separately *or* combined!).

The group is called Girls Don't Cry. I heard them
recently on the Joey Reynolds overnight radio show.
It also happened to be an hour they (WOR 710 AM in
NYC; the show's originator) deigned to podcast (eejits
don't do the entire show; it's 5 hours a night
12am-5am; like everyone will be up all night!), so now
I also have something that I think will be a
historical item.

I heard them at a free concert they gave in a park
tonight in Brooklyn. Hauled myself all the way from
Staten Island to hear them because I *loved* the two
songs Reynolds played and I really wanted to
experience their music outside of a studio.

You can hear these two songs too. Go to
http://www.myspace.com/officialgirlsdontcry

The two cuts are "Step On Out" (my favorite!) and
"Girls Don't Cry." (Beware: the MySpace Player isn't
reliable!)

I really like this group and I think if you like them
too, spread the word. Tell your kids too (they'll
think yer kewllll). No CD yet, dammit. I want one!!

My one regret is not having had a camera with me.
Having been put through -- by accident! -- the washer
and dryer *twice*, the Exilim is kaput. For tonight,
I would have loved an HD camcorder!
