My Version of It just wrapped up recording their next album at Gradwell House Recording in Haddon Heights, NJ. The, yet to be named, album is set to enter the final two phases of the recording process: The Mastering and the pressing.
Jared Says:
We are really pleased with the results and Steve at Gradwell did a great job considering the rush'd nature of the project. We've been waiting since 2007 to get back into the studio and with the return of Dr Best and the departure of Grave Mistake, we decided we needed to get in as fast as possible, not leaving a hell of a lot of time for planning and practicing. A few songs, we literally only played 3 or 4 times before we recorded them. Dave (Grind) did a fabulous job with that, as did Matt and Best. It was awesome to get back into the studio with Dr. Best as this was his first studio appearance with MVOI since 2001's Joel Grind Sessions (that resulted in the Say-Ten 7" and the digital release "Total Recall") Matt aka Holy Shit aka Taco Cart totally killed in the studio, not only did he got most of his guitar parts in one take, he also stepped up providing bass to a number of songs that we didn't have a chance to really nail down with Best. Dr Best only rejoined a month and a half prior to the studio. Matt also did some excellent vocal parts and was integral when it came to song selection. In my eyes, this is really Matt's record, without him, the project would have been all over the place and I never would have been able to be focused on this great group of songs. Dave aka Noisy V did his usual stellar job on drums and also made his first appearance rapping since 2001's Joel Grind Sessions. V's rap on Delaware-ification was really the stand-out performance of the entire session. For me, I'm happy to have just been able to spend time with my friends in the studio! I can't thank Dave, Best and Matt enough for all their hard work and putting up with my "what about this song? or should I play it like this?" crap I put them through everyweek. Steve did a great job with my curveballs, like banjo, talk box and auto-tune, and at times, it even seemed like he had some fun. For a world-class musician/engineer such as he, I was glad to see we were able to throw him some curveballs, I think we were the first band he ever recorded that used Talk Box.
The manic nature of the recordings are reflected most in the track list, a set that included a lot of older material Best was familiar with, a handful of brand-new tunes and a few with that classic WV vs. POP sound. For me, this was more like recording a Best-Of album than a new collection, as, even though all of the tunes are previously unrecorded (with the exception of Pyrite) as Dr. Best put it, mostly all of the songs sound like singles. We reached far into the back catalog even pulling out a few songs that existed even prior to Year of the Comet (Me and Dave's pre-MVOI band)
The stand-out cuts, at this point, seem to be "Nunc Dimittis" a song I wrote in 1997 and we beefed up for this recording, that Matt was really in favor of. "Course Correction" A Dark Lost-Inspired tune featuring banjo, acoustic guitars, talk box, gang vocals and awesome drumming, "Shades of Ten" and epic, dark disater-peice. The longest and darkest MVOI song in a long time that features a killer bass line from Matt, my favorite "One Minute Brain Drain" a song that harkens back to the wild Hawaiian C-Tuning days of the WV era of MVOI complete with auto-tune, and Lesson #122, the rap-rock Delaware anthem. Although, I gotta say, even tunes like the Year of the Comet penned "Eleven Eleven", the first ever official MVOI song "Lesson #02", the indie-popped out "Lesson #98" and the brand new "Star Falls To Earth" are all in contention to be on future best ofs. We even culled a few songs from the recent Jon Grunes Southern Rock era, the oft-controversial "Come All Night" and the bad ass "Born To Die" sit soundly amongst the 1999 "Which Stitch Is Golden" re-write "Guitar Gods" and the ever present "Pyrite" (a song first debuting as a Year of the Comet song in 1998, and first released on the Jared Solo 7" "A Practical Guide To Beekeeping/Pyrite")
We're still trying to name the record and I've begun working on a new set of songs. I can't wait until this era's next album is created. We're even talking about bringing back classics like "Avalanche" and doing a few more acoustic-minded tunes along with the recently re-discovered Dark Dimittis (the prequel to Nunc Dimittis) and newer tunes like "24 hours" and "Another Tiny Ghost" - I'm also documenting the recording process on video and for a radio feature and accompanying book/web blog. We'll see what the future holds for My Version of It - still around after all these years. Jared (SFX) Morris

hey guys, by the time you read this I will have updated the sounds section of the myspace to include some rough mixes from My Version of It's June 2009 session in New Jersey. We are in the process of recording a new CD.. we got 13 songs almost finished and will mix them and do some backing vocals on July 5th, (on my birthday), wish me a happy birthday, damnit. I'm really pleased with the recordings/album thusfar. Matt (our guitarist) totally kicked ass at these sessions - even playing bass on a handful of songs - this will be the first MVOI record to include Matt and the return of original MVOI bassist Dr. Best. It's so great to have Matt and Best in the band, and they've contributed greatly to the mood and songs, it's unbelievable. The new record should be mixed, mastered and pressed by the end of summer. I'm sort of thinking of throwing together some acoustic songs for some sessions in the fall, but one step at a time. Also, Jared's (mine) radio show is moving to a new time slot. for the last few years i've done the 9am - noon timeslot on 92.7 FM in rehoboth beach, but will now be moving my show to 7pm - 10pm - Radio's Don Geronimo from the Don and Mike show will be taking on the nine to noon slot. I had the pleasure of having Don on the radio with me today. If you want to check out Don's first WGMD appearance on my show you can listen here: http://www.wgmd.com/images/stories/audio/jmpicks/061609-geronimo.mp3That's all for now guys. Talk to you all soon. Jon has accepted a job opportunity in San Diego, California and is leaving Delawarification for the Californication of the Left Coast. We loved working with Jon and are sad to see him go. As a result, MVOI and Grave Mistake will be engaged in a final recording session this week to record the remainder of the Grave Mistake material for a full legnth Grave Mistake record and a few songs for a brand new EP collection of My Version of It tunes called "Let's Rock and Say He Did: The Jon Grunes Years" which will be the first-ever MVOI release to feature all songs sung by Jon. Possible Track Listing (2009) Let's Rock and Say We Did The Devil Plays Two Tricks (Ain't You Ever Had) Sess Spree Come All Night What We Want 2009 How He Rolled Although MVOI is looking forward to the surpise EP (which will be released on iTunes as well as a physical release) MVOI is sad to be parting ways with the former AK47 who helped shape MVOI into new creative directions. The recording of the "They Can Do That, Really?" CD will be ceased for now as MVOI regroups. MVOI is currently in negotiation with former MVOE comic Brian "Entertainment" Clymer in a managerial capacity and the formerly late Dr. Best to resume roll as MVOI bassist. Josh "Dr. Best" Reiss played bass for MVOI during it's creation from 2000-2001 and can be heard on the Unknown Members 7" and iTunes "Total Recall" release.
