BANG from empires on Vimeo.

Monday, October 19, 2009

hey ya-

I'll get straight to the point. We’re very excited to announce that EMPIRES is set to release new music before the end of this year! We have spent much of 2009 writing and recording a batch of songs we are all very proud and feel represent exciting times ahead. Release details will be announced very soon...

Thanks to all the old and new faces that came out for the Dear Hunter and Murder By Death shows last month. You mean the world to us. We’ll be heading out east this week for the CMJ Music Festival in what will be our FIRST time performing in NEW YORK.  We understand both shows are 21+ but please do not let the age requirement discourage you from catching up and meeting us in person.  We will be hanging outside the venues before and after each show. Drop us a line at empires.music@gmail.com if you plan on coming out and maybe if enough people show up I will help you convince Sean into performing a few acoustic songs outside.

And finally, thanks again for everyone who voted for EMPIRES in the 2009 Airwalk Unsigned Hero Contest. Alas, we came in 2nd place, but it was still a great experience all around. We want to leave you with something familiar yet new.  EMPIRES has just completed a music video for ‘SPIT THE DARK’ - a montage of footage collected over the last several months traveling & performing.

See you all very soon,

tc

It's been sometime since I've updated this last.  Our absences does not mean we haven't been busy, because we sure as hell have been.  Since we last spoke, empires have been holding each other at gun point as we wrapped up writing and recording for quite a few new songs over the last few months.  The process has always been along the same formula.  We first come together to flesh out songs to the fullest and the best we can as a group.  From there, we take the creation to our laboratory and after some short of chemical burst, we walk away to let the smoke clear.  (Its very hard to keep a clear perspective when you become so physically and emotionally attached to a piece of work).  From there, we retrace our steps and adapt the songs in a live, electrical setting.

With about eleven songs roughly completed (out of the fifteen we went into the studio with), we are still missing an element of suspense which comes with performing them live.  And this is where you enter the picture.  Tomorrow, Empires will be test running several new songs that will help shape the future our next release.  We will NOT be performing our "new record" but more so showcasing a lot of hard work we've spent the last few months on.  As always, we personally want to share this experience with you.  We understand there are still rough edges to be smoothed out but this is were we start, the only place we know where to.

Tickets are very close to being sold out for tomorrow at Schubas Tavern (Chicago / August 26th, 2009).  Pick up the remaining tickets at Schubas.com.  If you're traveling or counting on to walk up for tickets, don't be foolish.  You won't want to miss sets by Pet Lions and Big Science.  This is a smaller than normal room for us, so expect to things to be LOUD, HOT and quite personal.  We could not be more excited (and nervous) to share this with you.

On a side note, we've been voted into Airwalk's & Spin's USH contest, which continues for another month.  Winners partakes in Airwalk's & Spin's SXSW showcase this spring...which means shows outside of Chicago.  Something everybody wants, right?  If so, voting daily at http://airwalk.com/ush/#/Empires would mean the world to us.

Also, Empires will be touring with the Dear Hunter this September in the midwest. We could not be more excited, along with playing this years Pygmalion Festival.  If you think we should be playing your college, let us know at booking@weareempires.com

We just wanted to remind everyone that Wednesday night's show in Chicago is very close to selling out. We'll keep you updated on if & when it does, and whether there will be a limited number of tickets available at the door.

But right now our best advice is to purchase in advance!

Thank you to everyone for coming to Bottom Louge in Chicago last week and helping us sell the room out.  Lots o' love to family, friends, Company of Thieves, American Taxi and Thrillage.  We try very hard to make each Chicago show special and worth the wait.  We already have a small, intimate club show in the works for late August to test run what we've been so busy with in studio.  There is so much for you to hear! We'll be announcing details shortly.
For the past few weeks, we've been quite busy recording the foundation for over a dozen songs.  Max is responsible for this mess once again and will lead us through tracking.  Ryan and Alfred have finished recording their instruments, leaving Max and I to wrap up guitars in the next few days.  I'm not sure how many of the songs will see the light of day but we definitely have enough material to begin shaping what will be our next release.  We've become pack rats of a band with stock piling new melodies, ideas, chord progressions, equipment since last winter in which we can deliver something we have not done yet together.  We hope to look back on the wreckage with mixes by the end of the month.
I seriously can't believe HOWL was released just over a year ago.  Thanks to everyone involved with They Just Howl, we were all very surprised.  Even though our minds have been focusing mainly on the new material, we have not forgotten about the cities we have yet to travel to on HOWL.  We have our eyes on you miss Pacific.  Until then, we'll be keeping busy with summer festivals and midwest dates.   Come outside and sweat a little with us this summer.

i'll write again soon.

On a side note, we recently had a very productive stay at Blacklodge Recording in Eudora, Kansas. 16 songs were tracked on drums. It might be sooner rather then later that this sees the light of day. The floodgates are now open.

Thanks to everyone who came out, bought a shirt, or said kind words to us on the Snakes & Suits Acoustic Tour. It meant the world to finally get out to some of your towns and meet you all face to face. It will not be long before we come back with the full band!

There's no sign of things slowing now that we're home. We have a few college shows coming up this month, including a show at Columbia College with Crystal Castles and Deerhunter (1104 S Wabash, Chicago, IL...Free for all students and 10 dollar donation for anyone accompanying a student). Tickets for May 22nd at Bottom Lounge with Company of Thieves are also moving fast, so make sure you get yours soon!

Then beginning in May we are venturing down to Blacklodge Studios in Kansas to track drums for 14 new songs. Not sure what will become of these songs, but I do know we have come a long way in the past year and half. Time will tell.

P.S

We have not forgot about the West Coast! Summer 09...
