I waited on Johnny Grant numerous times in my years at the Hollywood Hamburger Hamlet.  He had such a distinctive voice that differed from the ceremonies across the street only in the way he was able to hold a very private conversation in a low volume.   He really seemed always happy, and he never failed to look you in the eye and say hello, as if you were an old friend he had immediately recognized.  In all truth how could he possibly remember whether he'd said hello ever before to so many people?  What a guy, truly.
