"If a child is to keep alive his
inborn sense of wonder
he needs the companionship
of at least one adult
who can share it, ...
rediscovering with him the joy,
excitement, and mystery
of the world we live in."

-Rachel Carson-

"I looked on child rearing
not only as a work of Love and duty
but as a profession that was fully as
interesting and challenging
as any honorable profession in the world
and one that demanded the best that I could bring to it."

~Rose Kennedy~

"To LOVE a child doesn't mean giving in to all his whims;

to Love him is to bring out the best in him,

and to teach him to love what is difficult."

MSN is no longer a reliable place to find news.

Today's topic:

really?

Really?

Despite serious risks?

Like...... ?  Ummm pregnancy?  STD's?  Hurt feelings?  Heartbreak?

Uhhh ~ did I miss something?

I'm guessing that "sexting" (haha) is where teens are sending sexually explicit .. words (?) to other teens?  Words, like, phrases? and "dirty sentences?"

I'm sorry, but if my kid becomes "sexually active" through text messaging, long before he or she becomes sexually active in real life, I will applaud the idea.  Keep your pants on, live in your imagination, and share your imagination with your partner through text messages?  Great!  Lol.

Don't we have other things to worry about?  Like kids who spend their afternoons alone or skip school to do drugs?  Come on.

Yesterday I was in a Taco Bell drive-thru, waiting to order a soft taco with tomatoes.

The car in front of me was packed with kids, and what I assume to be the oldest girl, kept looking back at me.  She looked about 12 or so, and I assumed she was just hitting the age of discomfort in the car full of family.  Her look was almost pleading.

When the man in the driver's seat finished ordering, they pulled forward.  When I scooted into their place, it felt like I scooted into a puff of smoke.  My car was suddenly engulfed with nicotine.  I had to assume that their vehicle just smelled terribly of stale smoke, and me, with my supersonic sense of smell, was just picking up on it.

Then I pull around to the window.  Now I realize the female in the passenger seat has the window cracked and is smoking a cigarette.  The girl in the backseat is still looking at me miserably.  At this point I'm disgusted, judgmental, and having flashbacks.  I remember feeling clausterphobic on long drives we took with my stepmom when I was a kid.

At this point the smell is so bad I'm holding my nose.  I'm a car behind them and I can barely breathe.  I can't imagine how those kids weren't suffocating.

She must have been smoking something really strong or really cheap.  Three kids in the backseat, and just smokin' away.  I can't help but wonder why there isn't a law against this.  I know my stepdad would disagree that there should be, because laws shouldn't prevent people from living, and maybe it is true that inconsiderate morons should weed each other other out.  However, what happens when you get smart kids with crappy parents and no one intervenes to help them?  Shouldn't smoking in the car with your kids be considered a form of child abuse?  Or neglect for their general well-being?

I have to be honest here, if you do this to your kids, I think less of you.  It doesn't matter if I care about you/love you/or you're an amazing person.  Not only are you being horrible to your children, you're also incredibly SELFISH.  Get out of the car and smoke if you must.  Smoke on your own time if you "can't quit."  But don't subject your children to such a disgusting, unhealthy habit.

And please, keep in mind that I have always felt this way, even when I was a smoker, and even when addiction meant more to me than making sure I had food.  I'm not being self-rightous, or hypocritical.  If I went out to dinner and there were children sitting in the smoking section, I couldn't even bring myself to smoke.

Interesting that a stranger would care more about a child's health and happiness than their own parents would

Children don't deserve to be stuck putting up with YOUR addiction.

People tell you how tired you'll be,
but they don't tell you...
that you'll be able to survive without much sleep
because the simple act of looking at your baby
is stirring, gratifying, energizing.

Reasons to hope for a girl....

these are not things I ever want to think about.

Circumcision is medically harmful (the foreskin protects the penis, keeps it moist which allows for better sensitivity, and as an infant protects it from urine, feces and injury) and it is also a human rights issue.

Scientific studies have already shown that circumcision is unnecessary. So basically, we're left with the fact that we're doing it because our parents did it. We're doing it because we want our sons to look like their dads. What kind of insane reasoning is that? Something is harmful to our child. It hurts them. It mames them. It causes them unnecessary trauma and suffering, not only in the moment of the act, but for the rest of their life whether they realize it or not.

We are permanently disfiguring a persons body solely for aesthetic purposes.

Why is infant male circumcision still allowed in this country when we're fighting to end FMG in places like Africa?

Because here, infant male circumcision is still culturally acceptable.

We started circumcising our baby boys in this country to prevent masturbation. To reduce the males genital sensitivity so that he didn't enjoy masturbation as much as if he hadn't been circumcised. If you don't believe me, do a google search on "circumcision masturbation".

Since then, we have come up with all sorts of reasons to keep it in our culture; It's cleaner, it's looks better, it prevents disease, he should look like his dad. The medical reasons that we've been fed our whole lives regarding why we should be circumcised have now been proven false. The American Academy of Pediatrics NO LONGER RECOMMENDS INFANT CIRCUMCISION.

We see a picture like this, of a Muslim girl having her clitoris forcibly removed and think...

"How barbaric! How wrong! This must be banned! We must stop it at all costs!"

Then we see a picture like this and think...

"Oh! How painful! How wrong! How barbaric! But....."

Most people don't seem to have strong moral and ethical convictions about why their sons should be circumcised. They have their sons circumcised because they want then to look like everyone else. The don't want them to be different or made fun of. OR, they're uniformed. They think that circumcised penis' are cleaner and healthier. They haven't been given the information that a lot of us have that proves those ideas false.

Most people have their sons circumcised because that's just what we do in this country. I've talked to a lot of people about circumcision and the responses I have gotten about why people do it are not passionate ones like, "We strongly believe that we have the right to choose what our sons penis looks like and my constitutional rights would be compromised if it were outlawed." No. The response I hear is, "Well, my husband really wanted our son to look like him." Or, "Well, it just looks better." Or, "Isn't it just cleaner?"

They're very run-of-the-mill, regurgitated responses. Like most people are simply repeating what they've heard and not putting a lot of serious thought and research into it."

I think if Josh can sit through this next video (***this is not for the weak at heart***) and still agree that this should be done, then we'll talk.  If he cannot stomach this video, then we cannot have this done to our child.

"wow, you're almost half way there!"

and suddenly, I'm flooded with fear.

Half way?  I am ???
I am !!!

Well that's impossible because I'm not ready I have so many things I need to do!  So many preparations that need to take place!  I haven't even told my dad!

Half way means half way to delivery Half way to the scariest moment of my life!  And that's IF this little bugger stays in full term.  I'm due in April, but I have fears about February and March.

I'm not even registered.  I haven't even toured a hospital!
When do people do these things?!

                        ~*~

On the brighter side of things..  I'm half way to that first encounter
To seeing the LIFE that I created; that we created.

Half way to meeting the best part of the two of us. ♥

Half way to all new priorities and a brand new meaning to my life.

I hope this baby will bring me peace; and a fullfillment I never knew possible.
I know these are high hopes, and you're probably wondering how a noisy, messy baby can create peace, especially in an anxiety-filled neat freak; but it's a different kind of peace I'm searching for..  The kind where little things don't matter quite as much as important things.. and where anger is not my easiest emotion to express.

It's about time I focus my attention on something else.

Tonight, Jennifer and I watched the movie SiCKO.

This movie is extremely disturbing, to say the least.

I can't help but wonder if it would be worth the loss of leaving my friends and family to become a citizen somewhere else.

I also wonder if I would feel guilty for taking up space in another country, when it would be sole because mine cannot join the 21st Century or find an ounce of compassion for it's people.

If you haven't seen this movie, and you care about someone else at least as much as you care about yourself, you should watch it.

Literally, you can bomb America and get better health care than our working class citizens.

CUBA has better health services than we do.

Really???

Canada is not the only country where citizens believe in taking care of other citizens ~ there are many

- And in those countries, doctors are not shorted by means of income or vehicles
Or equipment.

We've been LIED to.  Plain and simple, as usual.

In France you can get a midwife/doula for up to three months AFTER childbirth to come to your home and help you with feedings, advice, and even do your laundry.
They also pay for day care and a college education if so desired.  !!!

Are we really so far behind that we can't provide the things that other countries can?

This movie was depressing and made me wish I had not been born to such a filthy, selfish, power-seeking, money-hungry country.

I advise you to watch it, if nothing else, just to know the facts.

Well this might have been helpful to know..

Today's Virgo Horoscope: Oct 01, 2009

This is an intense day for you, dear Virgo, in which the disharmony in different realms of your life is cropping up and spurring you to action. Others may be ridiculously stubborn today, causing tension and frustration wherever you turn. The key to balancing out the equation is fun. A jovial frame of mind and playful attitude will help remedy any situation that comes your way.

I stumbled across these videos and really wanted to share them.  I know racism isn't something most of us feel we need to discuss in the 21st Century, however, because there is still racism out there, hiding in the less educated areas of our world, and from generations that are dying off to the generations who were taught the same from their elders, this subject is unfortunate to still be around to some degree.

I, myself prefer to be in denial of racism today and believe people are capable of being good or bad from any skin tone or ethnic background; which I know, is such a novel idea.

The following presentation by a third grade teacher really hits the subject home for her students and I can only imagine if all teachers had been required to do such an exercise with their students of all ages, grade school all the way up through college.  Imagine if all supervisors of all firms and corporations were to do such an exercise to all of their employees as well; how much faster our human minds could have comprehended such a subject and moved on from it.

It's also interesting to see how kids who felt down on themselves really seemed to accomplish less in such a short time period of being judged.

Kudos to Ms. Elliott.
I recommend starting the first video at 1 minute.

I just read a story by a new mom, about the birth of her little girl.  It's about her
rough birthing experience, and what her and her husband had to go through to
bring their little one into the world.  However traumatizing the experience was,
she said something at the end of the story that I found absolutely magical.

The poor women went through the epidural, then "pushed" for a couple hours,
only to have her natural plan pulled out from under her.  After the wasted efforts
of forceps, they moved on to a C-section.  As soon as her baby was out of her womb,
she fell asleep.  She recalls, "
That's right, I fell asleep.  I couldn't believe it.  The
greatest moment of my life and I couldn't keep my eyes open."

When she was finally ready to leave the O.R., they put her new baby next to her and
this is what she says:

"[We just stared at each other] ... It is here where my entire life began." ♥

Death Rates for places like California and Florida are higher than anywhere else.
California is leading with 158 deaths, whereas Florida is at a mere 78.

This link should take you to the actual US map,
where you can hover over each state and read the statistics yourself.

The safest American states are New Hampshire and Rhode Island.

*Please note: The fine print on the map is telling you that most states have stopped
reporting individual cases at this time.  Wouldn't want to panic anyone, would they?

Swine Flu/H1N1 symptoms begin with a cough.  Not a fever.  A cough.

It's also contagious for up to a week after your symptoms are gone.

So please remember to stay home longer than you'd prefer,
don't touch anyone, and wash your freaking hands.
