Meet Amy Lang, author of "Birds + Bees + YOUR Kids," Thursday, August 6, 7 p.m. at Black Wagon, 3964 N Mississippi Ave!

We are having a visit from Amy Lang, founder of Birds + Bees + Kids, to celebrate the release of her new book, Birds + Bees + YOUR Kids. The book works like a road map, navigating parents through the process of clarifying their values about sex, love and relationships in preparation for "the talk" that all parents eventually face with their kids. In her lectures and workshops in the Seattle area, Amy's practical, agenda-free approach has helped scores of parents to discover how they feel about these issues and prepared them to be the sex expert in their children's lives.

With the publication of Birds + Bees + YOUR Kids, this great resource is available to all parents! We're art lovers at Black Wagon, and we're thrilled to bring the delightful illustrations of Charley Harper to your children.

Charley Harper's nature-inspired illustrations are well-suited for children's books, games and puzzles, as well as being a great introduction to modern art. Learning the ABC's and 123's has never been so graphically rich! The flash cards double as two floor puzzles and there are charming wilderness scenes sprinkled throughout the classic memory game. Black Wagon is very excited to be starting a new adventure of our own.  We're working with the extremely talented writer and photographer Ryan Marshall of the blog Pacing the Panic Room. Hip Happening: This Saturday, July 27th, join the Curious Comedy Theater for a performance/workshop designed to have kids create their own shadow puppet play. Using simple materials, children are encouraged to let their creativity and imagination run rampant as they are in control of what happens in the story.  Curious Comedy Theater is located at 5225 NE MLK, and the workshop is from 10:30 to 11:30 AM.

It's time for Cirque du Cycling, this Saturday, June 13th! Presented by Laughing Planet Cafe, Cirque du Cycling is part circus, part bike race - and all fun! The event benefits SEI. This year's event features a family ride to Peninsula Park, a parade with tall bikes, choppers, swing bikes, music, food and more. The day wraps up with the evening criterium: speedy bikes racing up and down Mississippi Ave. Most shops on Mississippi Ave will have in-store specials during the event!
